    Still like it.

You wouldn't by any chance be referring to anything of an "Irate" nature, would you?

Still, I like it as well. :cheer:

Well these episodes have been missing for a while after the clusterfuck that was Revver, and they're also missing from a certain other site.

But I've rejiged them a wee bit.

Oh, were they off-line for a while?

I remember watching them back whenever; hopefully I'll see some episodes I didn't catch the first time around.

Interesting. I never knew that. I guess that explains why Mario 2 had such a different style than the other games. :side:

Yep this little stunt worked back in the day but today I think it won't be a good move. It would affect the sells because the consumers will buy the original version or the one with the most content. Hope to see more new stuff from Larry and Wez.

Very interesting. I knew about the Super Mario 2 being differen in USA and Japan, but didn't know Super Mario 2 USA was a port of another game, which makes totally sense at how it was so utterly different to any Mario game.

Thanks guys, yeah the Retro Corners will have loads of facts about games that aren't too well known.

Thanks dude, yup plenty more coming up!

It still happens occasionally, usually they'll slap on a license of a local TV show/comic to help it sell more in some countries, but also in Japan they'll change characters of western games to make them look more anime like.

Glad to see Larry and Wez found a new home.
I love the Top10 and Retro Corners. And look forward to seeing new ones.

Wow! There are still people out there who don't know that Super Mario Bros. 2 (US/E) was a clone of Doki Doki Panic? (But are actually familiar with SMB2.)

Truth be told I didn't find the video interesting at all because the SMB2/(Yume Kojo) Doki Doki Panic "controversy" has been discussed for the last 20 years and there are literally dozens of articles and videos about that...

If you have even the slightest interest in the SMB franchise beyond popping the games into your console you will most likely already have stumbled upon this info - I mean, it really is no big secret and is written black on white in the introductory paragraph to SMB2 on Wikipedia for crying out loud.

What I'm saying is: I'd rather you covered some topics that haven't been discussed to death already...

P.S. No, I'm not boasting with my knowledge about retro games here and the fact that I managed to find this cryptic fact in some obscure place - I literally heard about SMB2/Doki Doki Panic on every site and every show dealing with retro games and each time it was presented as a big revelation. At some point this "news" just gets stale.

Well lets hope New Super Mario bros Wii doess't do the same thing...

Super Mario Bros USA did add some
improvements to Doki Doki Panic. Many sprites were given animations(If you look closely, you can notice that the berries don't move in Doki Doki Panic) and Super Mario Bros USA doesn't have waterfalls that can give you seizures. I believe some music was change and a few other things. Anyone know any other changes?

    boyan....
(don't know how to say on eng, but that means that the news are old and everyone's alredy knew it...)
That's so obvious and so common that even i once upon a time made a video bout that....

This may be true, but the episode is still very entertaining and in the end that is all that matters.

I don't think it matters if it was Doki Doki Panic. I had fun with SMB2 when I was a kid. A good game is a good game.

Ah, the Retro Corner. I've been waiting for it to come to TGWTG. Larry, what can I say? Great vid, as always!

(Seriously? What else do you expect us to say? ;) )

Any gamer worth his thumbs figured this out a long time ago, though it's nice to have a nostalgic reminder once in awhile. Honestly I liked our version of Mario 2, ever since I started siding with bowser. So while mario is asleep for a long unannounced time in this adventure, peach is getting "kidnapped" again. When it's time for mario to wake up after beating wart, there are now suddenly koopa kids :)

  • BATZARRO  - I still love you, Mario2/Doki Doki!
    avatar

Even if you aren't really a Mario game, you where still fun, and still had Miyamoto in there! Come back to me!

That said, if it all originated on an anime, how come some of the same bad guy's return?

  • Doobious Cannabis  - mario 2 (lost levels) too hard?

HA! i remember playing lost levels when when it was released on mario all-stars and i beat the living shit outta that game. hell, i thought it was much more fun than the first.

I'm glad that you brought retro corner to TGWTG, but could you put on older retro corners, cause I cant find them all on youtube

  • rattlehead91

You forgot to mention that The Lost Levels was easier than the original game.

The only real copy of Super Mario Bros. 2 that the Western world has ever been exposed to is on the VC for the Wii. I bought it and it is certainly harder than the first one. It somehow looks worse, too. I don't know how Nintendo managed to pull that off, but it seems to be graphically inferior.

When this was on TV wasn't there a final 'GUUUH!' after the end credits?
