 I played the Mario Rip Off

  • benzaie

lol Sad Panda had to tell me about the subliminal message...

I didn't see it the first time on youtube...

BTW Larry... HOw is it a VERY BRITISH rip offs guide when the Gianna Sisters is a german game ? :D

  • Guru Larry

British publisher, shut up Bennie :D

  • NardBasket

    Yeah, second!

  • Rock Golem

You're not even second, you're third, and the fact that you were aspiring to be second, and not first, really says something about both you're confidence in yourself, and how much you suck.Let alone the fact that you failed to even do that, and that being the first to comment is pretty unimpressive to begin with.

  • CR!  - Great work

    Very Interesting.

  • Rad80sdude

   :D :D :pinch: :woohoo:

  • PublicEnemy

I remember seein this on your youtube channel. Still entertaining as ever. Hope to see some more in the future :D

  • edzoologist

Awesome episode! I heard you on the Game Knights Podcast this week as well. You did a great job! Keep up the good work Larry.

  • Almafeta

I inherited my copy of Great Giana Sisters from the library of a former Epyx (sp) programmer. I had no idea it was so rare...

  • JewWario

GREAT episode! Would love to see more of this kind.

    You are the proverbial 'man'.

  • Deimos1984rd

Wow...the things these companies get away with "chuckle" I still can't get over the Punch Out rip off.

  • NormanStansfield

Antipodean Andy looks like he's gonna shoop da whoop any second.
Frenchie France? really? Oh my god, why not add "le frenchman" to his name?

  • Zeronite

I love Guru Larry's videos. Shame they don't come out more often really.

  • AngryJoeShow

5 Stars! Loved it. Who knew there was a mario brothers game rip off with two crack whore looking sisters. LoL. Fun stuff!

  • Guru Larry

    Thanks Joe,

I've been wanting to do these more "feature" erm, features more lately. I think the hardcore get a kick out of learning new stuff, or things they weren't normally aware of.

  • MissAshley

Some neat game history of which I was not aware.

    Awesome!

  • Guru Larry

    Cheers ^_^

  • YetAnotherGeek

Wow...I am in envy over your game collection in the background.
Also, Gianna Sisters is the second most pirated game? I wonder what the first is...?
And a DS PORT!? The HELL!?!? Are you high, Nintendo!?

  • Guru Larry

I get asked that a lot.

It be "Thrill Kill" on the PS1. Dena did an awesome feature on that game a while ago too if you want to see it, she did a great job!

Also Half-Life on the Dreamcast comes a pretty close third now.

But the main reason they're so pirated is that they never officially came out, so there's no morale incentive to buy a proper copy.

LOADING: Benzaie can smell your soul.

Really? Thanks dude. Yeah SWAG and Kwing are really nice guys, a real laugh to chat to :D

I always loved the intro and ending of this one. ORIGINALITY! :D
I knew someone who had Giana Sisters back in the day but he had a hacked version that had you playing as Mario and I always just thought of it as Mario for that computer. He got the real version of Giana Sisters later and we thought this was a slightly changed version of the Mario game and went back to the hack. Took me a while to find out what it was later on as I thought it was a legit Mario title for the computer for a while.

Yeah, I've heard of that hack, it's pretty infamous.

I couldn't find a ROM of it for this video at the time sadly.

There's also a game called Qwik and Silva that ripped the sprites from these games, also from Sonic the Hedgehog about 2 months before Sonic 1 came out in the US, no idea how that managed that.

  • Tygerstrype

I know this is going to sound stereotypically American, but I love your accent and voice. It's the icing on the cake of your fantastic vids.
Anyway, great video, this one. :)

  • Alucat

I had giana sisters on my c64! Don't ask me where I've got it. I was like 7 or 8 years old back in those days so some other kid gave it to me on a floppy. It wasn't the original print but hellyeah I loved it! Since my parents never could get me a nintendo, this game was my childhood instead of SuperMario. Anyways neat video!

  • HamsterMan

I have played Gian(n)a sisters on both amiga and c64 (pirated versions only). Yeah it was a mario ripoff alright but the games weren't that similiar. Giana sisters had multiple weapon upgrades, AWESOME music and the level design was entirely different (except maybe in the first level). Also there were multiple bosses instead of just one.

It is a bit sad that the developer of the game died a couple of weeks ago.

  • SpotTheShingo

If you wanna comment on this vid in the forums, I started a "Yanks that DO have a clue" thread!

It's for other Guru Larry & Wez vids , as well too!

  • kenshindono  - who is this guy?

this guys voice sounds really familiar.. but i dont htink ive seen a video with him before. What section is he under? This was a pretty good video id like to go back and look at more of his stuff

  • Teus

    Sweet video.

My brother had (and still got in some basement somewhere) Giana Sisters for the Amiga 500 and I think I even played it before I played Super Mario heh. It wasn't an original print though.

Nice to hear some history about the game.

  • tiggerpete

I liked this one better than some of your previous ones, maybe I like information more than online punking of people (no offense, I just don't find that style very entertaining, but this I liked) Hopefully you have more things planned of this variety, I think you would get a lot more favorable opinions of your videos if they are more like this, or not, what do I know, right?

  • Narushima

Hell, Gianna sisters was one of the first games I ever played. It was a pirate copy, like everything else I had on my Amiga 500. Ah, Brutal deluxe...

  • FunkyM

Great vid, nice to see you coming out from behind the Voice-over.

And I spotted that "Benzaie can smell your soul". Subliminal gags FTW! ;)

  • Guru Larry

Thanks, yeah, one of the reasons why I put the video up, suddenly realised noones actually seen me on TGWTG :D

But I have changed quite a bit since filming this, I've lost just over 100 pounds on a rather extreme diet I'm on ATM, you'll see the difference in the next video!

  • Regiman

Nice to see this on here. 5 stared. Great job, Larry.

  • Guru Larry

    Thanks bud :D
