Benzaie, this video was hilarious (and very, very offensive of course)!!! My favorite explanation is the "door"...

By the way, you french guys are indeed pretty strange: here in Italy, "vagina" is female ( "una vagina" ). The more you know... ;)

One explanation could be:
Vagin derives from the latin vagina meaning "scabbard".
And since the word for the penis in latin is gladius "sword". A sword goes into the scabbard. Hence it's the property of a man and thus vagin is male.

It reminds me of Latin in that some things are feminine which by all sense should not be.

I didn't know what type of humor to expect, but as soon as you were like "Why is the chair female" I was actually trying to think of a legitimate reason why, and then you busted out "Because you sit on it", from there on out I was pretty much laughing my (apparently female) balls off. French genders in grammer are definetly very strange and hard to figure out. It was my biggest problem at the french lessons in school.

But our french teacher was so nice to give us half a point in tests for writing "Je ne sais pas." instead of a vocabulary you dont know.
I guess thats because I dont know much about french anymore
