Interesting to hear Nintendo say that they want to move away from well established franchises. Hopefully this'll mean more support for 3rd party developers, but only time will tell. After all, the Wii's greatest weakness is in their limited library of great 3rd party games.

The developers I've talked to have all said that Nintendo gives them much better support than sony, & about the same level of support from Microsoft (only Microsoft demands more control over certain game aspects). On top of that, the dev kits are cheaper than both MS & Sony.
The lack of third party support lies on the heads of the third parties, not on Nintendo.
I agree with the guy in the vid, that I'd love to see really new IPs come up, the thing with gamers though, is that we all want something new, but at the same time, gamers tend to spend more on existing franchises and familiar gameplay.

Pretty interesting interview. I'd love to see some branching out on Nintendo's part. While you really can't go wrong (usually) with Mario and Zelda and all, some variation would be wonderful and welcomed.
And (in regard to more immersive gameplay), one word: Scribblenauts.

Every wii owner has been ripped off.
He's better than no one but this guy doesn't know anything. Japan's where Nintendo HQ sits. Nintendo America might have some clout in the decision-making process but France is a gaming backwater. This guy's lucky to get a memo cluing him in 3 months after we see Nintendo's latest announcement phone-recorded and uploaded from a press conference.

A nintendo spokesman, is a nintendo spokesman... I mean by that they all are representing the company and thus are all informed at the same time...
If this guys seems not to know a lot to you, maybe he's hiding stuff...
An American or even Japanese representative would have served you the SAME things...
for example, Nintendo Denied the price drop to the very last moment (as he's doing here, this ITW dates from september early)...
As for France as a Gaming backwater...shall I remind you UBISOFT, DELPHINE Software, Infograme (who bought ATARI and now games labelled ATARI are actually edited by infogrames) , Cryo, Nadeo, Vivendi Universal (you know who owned BLIZZARD for a while)
are all FRENCH companies ???
That Out of This World, Dune, Rayman, BGE, Alone in the Dark, Flashback, Heart of Darkness, In Memorian, TrackMania, Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Syberia....
Are ALL FRENCH Games ???
So you can think this guy doesn't know what he's talking about, yet he's doing his job, stating Nintendo's official position about the industry....but you don't sound very clever calling France a gaming backwater...

Nintendo...doesn't like realying too much on pre-established fanchises? HAHAHAHAHA!
Well, maybe it's just this guy (I hope, for their sanity), still they have some of the longest running franchises in videogame history. Wierd...but not as much as the Sony one.
So Benzaie, is Microsoft up next?
