    FUCK JAPAN???
    FUCK YOU!!!
Nah, just kidding, you're cool!!!I just happen to be Japanese, but I know you were just joking around, hehe.
Anyways, I'm a big fan of your reviews, so I can't wait to see more from you.

  • WorstCaseSenerio  - Great review.

    Laughing the whole time.

  • Shinigami  - one of first onces huh?

So thats one of your first reviews? I was actually suprised that it actually was as good as your newest reviews. First onces seen in here were not as good as this was so I wonder why was that.

  • YourAverageJoe

So wait, this didn't come out on the Commodore 64, the best-sounding computer of all-time?

  • DiabolicalJC

Another great video, bud. And nice to see you're a fan of Bodom.

  • DragonTyph

saw this on youtube a while back.

  • DeaDBolT  - Interesting review

Pretty much completely, i want to add that you're partially right on Japanese game soundtracks.
I mean, i really like most popular JRPG soundtracks, but they seem a bit overrated by the fanbase compared to how good oldschool soundtracks and modern day non-japanese game soundtracks can be.

    Cheers,

  • professore annientamento  - best sounding computer ever

The best sounding computer ever was no more and no less Atari Falcon IMHO - pure madness I tell You! On one copy party in Poland 1994 I saw a few demos running on it.

But from jrpg games there are OSTs that are much better - main theme from Alien Breed, Appreintence, Bubble and Squeak, Chaos Engine and whole soundtracks from Shadow of the Beast, Apidya, Agony (oh yeah!), Lotus series, Pinball Dreams, Illusions, Fantasies and Slam Tilt, Perihelion (a perfect GTYMDK - intro music is a masterpiece) and many many other...

    Great review btw. Benzaie!

  • Arkady Saulski  - BUT WAIT!!!

So this review is one of the first ones? Wow - two words:

    Fuckingawesomejob dude!

(at least I think thats two words - how should I know - I'm Polish)

Damn - gotta get my glasses:D

  • e altar

    OMG
jim power should be the "how to do a game" example
seriously if every one tried to do the most with just what they have now
    mabe games would be better

thank for showing this game to me

  • Sigmanonymous

Man, benzaie, that's one hell of a good game you picked-up there. Makes me want one myself... and the system too, ofcourse. >_

  • Guitarhero1000

Man, you got all the cool old game systems I could never afford. Im jealous. At least its fun to watch them in action. Thanks.

  • benzaie  - Eyh new comment system WOOT !

Eyh guys thanks for enjoying this, This was my Third review ever... and my first three reviews have all been made within the same three days... I remastered this one because even after such a long time I still consider it my best, mostly because this game is one of my favorite of all time, and the quality of the game footages sucked on the original video...

My very first review is garbage though, it might hit the site as a look back but WOW...it really sucked :)

  • killerhuenchen  - Children of Fuckin´ Bodom!!!

Your pat is enough to give you five stars^^. and for the review: Oldschool rules!!! 5/5

  • mwong04  - NICE review

hmm the first Benzaie review huh? And you saying it sucks boy do I wanna see this

  • Solemn

I'm vaguely sad that I don't know any of these systems :D Never had video games when I was a kid (and the really shitty ones we had for our UBER OLD computer do not count!).

My only experience with video games was on the Nintendo 64 (Super Mario 64, LoZ: Ocarina of Time, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark) and the first Playstation (don't remember the games). And these were both owned by my babysitter.

And now I just download mmorpgs XD

I am video game fail -sadsad-

ANYWAYS! Awesome review as always o: I wanna see this supposed terrible review...

  • professore annientamento

Solemn but look what kind of experience - GoldenEye, Zelda, Mario - those are mostly considered in the top ten best VGs evar - Zelda Ocarino of Time is like the second best game ever made (second after KARTOFEL).

I would also like to see this terrible review.

  • piece of cake  - Super Nerd!

Jim Power is the nerd's nerd, with muscles AND a girlfriend!!! He's my hero! B)

  • RadPeterGuy

love these videos hope to see more GYMDK and less GSYMDK.

  • gasto5  - You rock!

Keep this rare game videos comming!

  • MP83  - Ummm, Benzaie...

Fuck you, Japan? More like fuck you, Hülsbeck. :D

One of the songs in this game is a blatant rip-off of one of the songs from Japanese video game, Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, released originally in 1989 for Japanese PC-8801 computers, and later on many other platforms.

    Hear it for yourself:

Level 1 song from Jim Power (1992):

"A Searing Struggle" from Ys III (1989):
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Wk7guFQhs
    (watch the 3:58-5:10 part)

  • benzaie  - WOW

    Alright... I actually learnt something...

Thanks for pointing that out... He really borrowed the first bit in its almost entirity... but eyh that doesn't surprise me regarding the Era... barry leitch was inspired by a lot of music as well... that would then help them start a song of their own...the Harlequin Soundtrack or the Lethal Weapon have also been inspired the same way...

it's still alright and not a TOTAL rip off to me... it's not BASS HUNTER bad let's say...since Huelsbeck borrowed the first 10 second at the beginning which is a good chunk I must say, but not the main chorus of the original track so...

Eventhough I reconsider a lot of things here... due to the era and the industry at that time you can't really blame huelsbeck or say he didn't do anything there, especially when the rest of the JIM POWER OST is STILL A MASTERPIECE...

but now I guess that is WHY this first level is not played during his orchestra sessions...

I plan on doing an interview with him for the podcast so stay tuned btw ;)

  • MP83

Okay, maybe I was too harsh at calling it a blatant rip-off, but it's obvious what song has inspired Hülsbeck. It's a really interesting find for a Ys fan like me. :) I own many of the Ys stuff in physical form, and they're not just games either:

    http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/1904/yscollection.jpg
(note: Just the tip of the iceberg that is the Ys series)

I'm looking forward to your interview. :)

  • M.D.K.II

I remember this. Now, I could be wrong, but didn't you get a good deal of bashing with your first videos here? I'm glad you managed to improve a lot, although I think your initial videos were also pretty good.

  • genocyde83  - Still great

Yes I love this game for the ST. But on youtube I seem to get bashed for liking this version over the amiga. Go figure, those people don't understand originality that the ST brought. So when is the next review? :?:

  • Trystaticus  - Funniest Review

It's true, Chris Huelsbeck (or is it Hulsbeck? How would I know, I'm Canadian.) is a god among video game composers. Anyways, this is your funniest review so far:
    "F*ck Japan!"
    "F*ck Colors!"
    "F*ck the Super Nintendo"

    You're a genius, Benzaie.
    Love your videos.
    Can't wait for more.

  • Daikichi

Nice hat, Children of bodon are awsome! Do you like japanese bands like girugamesh?

  • YoJimBobaJoe

I could tell it would be a awesome game with the main character called Jim,everyone knows people with the name Jim have super human awesome powers.FACT!!!

  • Mezurya

Who was it that said "running Spartans" or whatever? It sounded like Kikoskia...

  • Peter_Staack

    Good catch, MP83!

Chris Hulesbeck is AWESOME - I have the Turrican soundtrack in the top tier of my MP3 player - but that's clearly an adaptation of "Searing Struggle," by Mieko Ishikawa (Sound Team JDK / Falcom) from Y's III (and a few future titles).

The ST version had great music, but I thought the PCEngine version was the best sounding of the bunch. If you hunt around, Yuzo Koshiro did some awesome remixes of several Jim Power tracks, that are worth listening to.
