The ZX Spectrum had the weirdest color palette I ever saw. The fact that they sacrificed palette size for definition also didn't help. Because of this, every game on the ZX Spectrum looks...surreal...
EDIT: I think they were programming it like a printer instead of a games machine. You had Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key/Black, you know like a professional printer. The devs seemed to dunk huge amounts of yellow or nothing really on a background layer, then make every sprite out of black and invisible outlines. That's just plain weird.

What a crappy game. Good review. Maybe the reviewers were payed off or something. That is the only to explain the high reviews.

Son of a BITCH!
Spoony, Team Four Star, The Game Heroes, and now Dr Ashen?! What the fuck, stop making this site so god damn invincible >:|
It's way too difficult to process the site and all these guys' awesomeness when you were kept separate, now I have to deal with it all COMBINED? What next, you gonna get Maddox's "Best Show in the Universe" on here?! Shit! This is too much greatness for one site!

That was a good video. Could stand to move a little faster...but you know what? I'm gonna go ahead and just admit that I may be unfairly comparing you to Yahtzee because of your similar voices (no, I DON'T mean accents; I mean you actually sound the same) and profession, so I may just need to see a few more of your videos.
And I don't think that'll be a problem, since it was still quite interesting. If nothing else, I learned about games and systems I had never heard of.

I'll stick with double dragon thank you very much.

Yeah, Double Dragon was shitloads better than Renegade. Double Dragon Advance (if you could find it) was an excellent update that came around roughly 6 years ago for the Game Boy Advance.
Anyways, cool video!

The UK had Spectrum magazines? That's awesome! I'm from Switzerland and I've never .. NEVER even heard of a German Spectrum magazine. You lucky island people you. But then again, not having any magazines also means we weren't blatantly lied to.
Informative and really entertaining review you put together there. Excellent!

This is interesting; Ashen's narrative style (I'm Mr. Jumpy Sharko) and the way he throws in the words he's saying on the screen (ANYWAY and NOW) reminds me of a more slowly talking Yahtzee.
I love this review, Ashen! Great job!

Ashens > Yahtzee

I will say that at Ashens at least is not negative about every game he's ever played (yes, Yahtzee makes an exception for Valve games, but you know what I mean).

Ancient video?! I only finished editing it together a couple of days ago. Are you a time traveller?

I stand corrected.
I was so freakin' sure you did this video a year or two ago.
Must have been some other british guy then.

@Ashens,
I paid a visit to your youtube channel after this video. It covers alot of ground...You've got some great stuff man!Looking forward to more games I might not know about and your opinion on some that I do.
And what is it about his accent that makes him automatically seem a thousand times more intelligent and well-versed? Haha.

06.10.2009 - 22:41 | CrimsonDusk - Great review
Loved the review and usually that's the case with multiplaform games, they suck or they are good on all the platforms. Nowadays you are a happy bastard if you get the PS3, 360, PC version of Wolverine Origins and you are and you are a sad bastard if you get the Wii and PS2 version.

If anyone said there is anything better than this then they'd be lying.
Welcome to the site, Ashens

I like Ashens work! Nice to see him here!
That game looks like shit indeed...

I never take "professional" videogame journalism seriously. I pretty much stopped buying videogame mags for the reviews since the whole "Kane&Lynch" embarressment.
-
06.10.2009 - 23:09 | DeathsHead419 - Ehh...
I've seen better stuff from Ashens. How about getting some of that nosybonks or Tat reviews on this site, eh? That's were his humor gold lays.
Come on, Pop station whatch number 5!
-
06.10.2009 - 23:23 | The Samurai of Gaming
Well I'll be damned! Ashens is not on TGWTG! Now THAT is an awesome addition!
Just to clear something up though, his name isn't Dr. Ashens, it's Dr. Ashen. The S is the first letter of his first name.
-
06.10.2009 - 23:28 | Chief
Holy crap! The Good Doctor on TGWTG?!
It's like a dream! All my funny video guys on one website!
-
06.10.2009 - 23:45 | Weareclaudius
Aaaa soo could say this very game or game series was Double Dragon predecessor? I can't believe how little passion or effort they put into this game it's horrid i bet even game designers had a huge case of depression even programing this.
