I'm gonna have a tough time deciding between Old Republic and DC.

  • Ictiv  - No need to hurry with that decision!

I highly doubt that they wouldn't put out some 14 day trials at launch so i say if you are unsure, try them out!

And on my opinion: If there will be spaceships in Old Republic, like in Galaxies (probably the only thing Galaxies can call "best" )then I'm pretty much bought.

  • Coldguy

:0 That Picard song is going to be stuck in my head...damn.

  • rosenrot234

i may not be into star trek or star wars all that much. but even non fans like myself could get into being a dark side bounty hunter or something strange in star trek. i love custom players and stuff.

im still kind of feeding the monster that is WoW. luckily the new patch they released might spook some of the players away. these games look fun but nothing beats going into a hard instance with some buddies and scoring epic loot. well. real life is a lot more fun but you get the idea.

  • Kuari

DEFINATELY going SWTOR and playing as a Bounty Hunter... with Bioware one can't go wrong... plus I worry with Cryptic doing TWO games they might end up spreading resources too thin... that and with Star Trek, eventually as time goes by, servers may end up crashing from there just being WAY TOO MUCH area explored.

  • Deimos1984rd  - All three games are awesome...what to choose

By the way I choose sith, because I am just too dark to be a jedi

  • Star_Sage

I never owned an original Xbox, so sadly I never got to play Knights. Still, I want to play that Star Trek MMO. It's...it's Star Trek. I'm going to have a crew of all Orion Females...green nymphomaniac women here I come!!! I'm gonna get beat down by the Borg a couple of times, but hey, if they all look like 7 on de-Borging, I don't care.

Also, choice is yours...but the power is MINE!!! MWA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!! Seriously though, Joe, work on the evil laugh some. That was good, but it could have been better.

  • bojak90  - well...

Now that I've seen more, I'm still rooting for DC. Star Trek seems like it is trying to be the next EVE but with ground combat (nice!) in addition to improved combat...hmmm...maybe this will be pretty damn good (though Atari having any kind of involvement makes me nervous).

Starwars...eh...I'm just not feeling it. Moral decisions, expanded universe...I'd rather have just had Knights of the old republic 3. Still, if Angry Joe is willing to go there and bust heads if Bioware doesn't deliver, I might have to look into it more.

But, since I don't want to be a complete fanboy, I will admit that DCUO is going to have to prove a lot once it comes out. It's been in for development for so long that fans have huge expectations...and SOE has had a bad track record (the art direction is also a bit too bright and friendly)...still, if I can beat up Zsasz and hang with blue beetle, it will be all worth it and if this game isn't at least fun...I...WILL...BREAK THEM!!!

As for WoW...I think it will run out of steam in a few more years as interests and technology advance. However, I'm not sure if the MMORPG as a whole will fall with WoW or not...only time will tell.

By the way Angry Joe, this was, in my opinion, your best episode yet. You've improved at an amazing rate since your debut on the site. Your really a great entertainer.

    -have a good one
    bojak90

  • Agigaherger  - how about...

Definitely one of your better videos, keep improving. Also have you heard about the Dragon ball mmorpg? I was hoping that would get a mention. :(

  • mwong04

HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK, oh and Agigaherger Ive heard about Dragon Ball online but I wounldn't anticipate alot on it because having a game where combat needs to be entirely flexible, unless in the future we get virtual reality or else dragon Ball won't be anygood

  • FearBoo

    fun stuff

  • Linkara

Anxiously awaiting Star Trek Online. ^_^ Hurray - a Star Trek story that actually moves FORWARD instead of doing prequel crap!

  • SLagonia

I prefer the Star Trek universe over the Star Wars universe any day, and even I'm picking Knights of the Old Republic. It's just a superior game.

  • Booze Zombie

The virtual simulation thing was a bit... meh. Sorry.

But other than that, great video.

  • Shinigami

Man I also hate World of Warcraft. Have you considered Age of Conan or Warhammer Online? Those have awesome fantasy worlds that they are based on.

Jedi or Sith? I would most likely go with sith instead of jedi.

  • Matten

    Star Wars RULES!

    I'm gonna be a Jedi!

  • DomasiTawodi

you guys rule!!!!! :D:D very funny video

  • darthnazgul

I'll probably decide based on if any are coming out fro consoles and how much you have to pay. I think I'm torn between the top three.

  • dirk123

Like some other users, I rather have a KotOR3 instead of an MMORPG based off the first two games.
I just hope the Sith isn't as easy as in KotOR2 (Force Lightning spam FTW!)
**Waits quietly for Team Gizka to release the mod that will return the missing content from KotOR2**

Star Trek seems to have taken some stuff from the "Armada" games (building stations, fleets etc).

I will only play DCUO if and only IF they can get the original voice actors to reprise their role in some scenes (Mark Hammil as the Joker, Corey Burton as Brainiac etc)

  • DrGero  - Good stuff.

    Good set of videos.

I'm not too fond of the skits, but meh.

If I decide to play an MMO, which I haven't yet for pretty much the reasons you described, it'll either be Star Trek, Star Wars, or Stargate. Or The Agency, though it's not an RPG.

Star Wars I like for it's strong narrative and cinematic style, something which I usually feel is diluted the more you interact with other people.

Star Trek I like for its specific sci-fi themes (peaceful intentions, high-tech, etc), among which is its sense of galactic community and diplomacy; something that can lend itself well to an MMO. (Plus being a Captain in charge of everything is just fun.)

Stargate, I don't know. It's lighter than the other two. I like how it's connected with the present day: it's always fun to see us interacting with aliens. The combat system look pretty good, though I hope you can get rid of all that bulky armor for the SGC side. I want it to look like I'm leading O'Neill into battle, not an Imperial Guard.

The superhero titles and Aion just don't appeal to me; I think Aion looks great, but a lot of them do, and so it'll be bundled with others of it's kind; there, maybe fun, but not standing out. And though I love DC, I really dislike the art style chosen, and the game feels gimmicky to me ("Want to fight with Superman/Batman? Come play our game!";)

Champions Online doesn't look bad at all, and I've heard good things about the P&P RPG, but it doesn't grab my attention like the others do.

No matter what though, it's imperative to be patient and look at what's said (from critics and fans) after their releases, to help judge which one is for you. Normally I'd say "just get whatever looks fun to you, who cares what others think?" But considering the nature of these games, and the money involved...

EDIT: Damn, this turned out long. What I get for posting when I'm tired.

Oh, and I'm hoping the Star Trek ship-to-ship battle system is a combination of Starfleet Command (#1, before they dumbed it down) and Bridge Commander.

  • BlueGoldBizarros  - Awesome Joe

Just as great as you said it would have been. I do have ALOT of hope that DCUO will be great, manly because some of DC comic's most talented writers are helping the game. I know stories don't garentee a good game, but I still have hope.

Nice touch with the Picard song :woohoo:

  • AngryJoeShow  - Problems?

    Anyone else having problems?
I hit play and it goes directly to the end.

    Hope this clears up soon.

  • LtSmash  - Same Problem

The vid doesn´t show up for me either. Same problem as above.

  • Ghostmayhem  - re: Problems?

Yup. Hopefully it'll clear up soon...I was really looking forward to this :(

  • AngryJoeShow  - Trouble Ticket Sent

Ive sent an email to Blip. I've seen this happen once before, Id like to know what causes this Hiccup - it was working fine before....

Joe! Good news! It's working :woohoo:

Also, as for which MMO I'd choose, it' be either Champions or DC Universe -Online.
I don't know, I guess I've always wanted to be a superhero. I had City of Villains, but it got old pretty fast and there wasn't a ton of customization available.
Besides, both Champions and DC Universe are available on consoles, so no monthly fees!!

  • AngryJoeShow  - Fees

There will be fee's on the Consoles. Trust me.

  • SSBB Fanboy  - Star Wars, of course!

I grew bored of WoW. Being a Star Wars nerd, I really got disappointed with Galaxies. I loved the KotoR series, so I will so go for the Star Wars MMORPG.

Can't wait for it. Of all things I've read, it will surely be way better than anything else.

Haha, or perhaps not. But being a SW fan, it sure is a big plus for me.

  • FireFighter214  - Old Repubulic

I can't wait for Star Wars because the talk is that it will be focused on story, and that's what I want most in a game. I couldn't get into WoW because I didn't feel immersed in a story like I would in a RPG like Mass Effect, or Witcher. Star Trek over Star Wars, please. I'm a Jedi. I can't help it. Its who I am.

  • Linee

Loved the finale, WoW would probably look very close to that if it was a living person :pinch:
Although I'm more of a fantasy/medieval/animoo-like mmo kind of girl, those games don't look half bad either. Except for the subscription part, but hey!

Also. Angry Joe simulatorrrrr!! *Wavy wavy* :D

  • Spirit Snake

great review, but come on! star wars or star trek beats wow :P i play wow, and they have a big fan base but the group of fans from star wars and star trek are huge, if the games are good they would easily surpass wow

  • Mirthe  - About SWG...

Star wars Galaxies had alot of classes that no one cared about? um it had 32 classes and you could drop/change and mix them whenever you wanted. Jedi wasnt some luck based thing that just happened. you had to master a random set of classes chosen for your character and holocrons would tell you the first few you had to master. So yes you could be a Jedi but the other 32 classes were indeed cared about. As much as the game gets abused for the NGE patch which destroyed the game, the things your drooling over in Star Trek were first touched on here.

The space battles in SWG had all your "allocating shields" and multipassenger ships had crews that could repair the various parts of the ship while someone piloted, co pilots used commands, other players manned the turrets and others still watched for alarms and fixed the ship. taking a yt1300 up against a star destroyer was some of the most fun I had.

I unlocked my Jedi in SWG through the Village quests and because it had to be earned there was a sense of pride and accomplishment to your jedi. people remembered you and knew who you were.

Of course SWTOR will have regular classes. what kind of mmo would only have jedi. I agree that i dont think it will be a WoW killer and im not convinced it will even be better than early SWG. I miss the days before there even was a Jedi character unlocked and running my armorsmith shop.It had a completely player based economy , there were no NPC vendors selling gear at all, it was all player made, and usually sold from their personal housing, from one of the deepest crafting/mining/harvesting systems ever in an online game.

  • AngryJoeShow  - SWG = Bad Reputation

I'll admit I never played Galaxies, but before now never cared to play an MMO. (expecially when everyone bashes on Galaxies for some reason)

Im Not going backwards though, im too amped up for Old Republic, Champions and Star Trek...

    SWG = Bad Reputation, Why?

  • DarthMortiss

IF you like how Champions looks you should take a look at City of Heroes/City of Villains, they just recently came out with an expansion that allows you to create your own custom content and now they're coming out with another one that will allow you to play as a villain on hero side and vice-versa.

I know you said you don't wanna go back for a game, but you can try a free 14 day trial of it at www.cityofheroes.com

With that out of the way, I'd love to try these other games but I doubt my computer could handle any of them at the moment.
