Bayonetta is Shaping up to be one of those games thats looks to have High Production Values, Unique Art Style and Beautiful Visuals but I just can't seem to bring myself to care too much, its looking like a Rental for me – no matter how Naked She Gets. (Maybe.)"

Hey, Angry Joe, I heard that Famitsu awarded the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta with a 40 out of 40 and the Ps3 version with a 38 out of 40, and mind you, Famitsu is noted for being extremely harsh when it comes to reviewing a game. Also, Edge awarded it with a 10 out of 10, so get out, buy it, and enjoy it

Looks like a decent action game, so long as there's more to it than just pressing one button at time...
Otherwise, the style is just an imitation of Devil May Cry, and the actual gameplay, an imitation of Simon-Says.
Soundtrack sounds sufficiently action-packed.
Definitely wouldn't pick it up for $60, but maybe a little less...
Call me mildly excited. 7/10

The danish GameStp has an offer that alows me to preorder the game for 20$, so I'm gonna do that. But I'm not hyped at all for the game.
4/10.
It'll be a fun action game, for 20$ that's good enough for me

10.12.2009 - 04:02 | ElementalKid - Not so obvious...
I'm interested in the game, but not for the reasons why the average joe (no pun intended) will pick it up. I wanna know how the heck a witch ends up using hair, guns, and swords (on her feet no less) to kill evil angels! I mean seriously, why are the angels evil and the witch good?

I saw trailers of this game looong ago and though that this is going to be awesome game, but it seems to be nothing but a panty shots, fan service, etc. Btw, very terrible voice acting also.
But who knows, maybe it's fun (one) button smashing game.
-
10.12.2009 - 04:04 | Timeswordsman - 2/10
I was interested at first but the one button game play is a deal breaker for me.
I might buy it if I can get it for less than ten dollars.
...A lot less.
-

The one button thing is for the Very Easy mode, basically a feature for the chronic masturbators.

My first post for an AngryJoe-video
.I'm not really a gamer, but I can see that Bayonetta has a smell pf DMC, as you said, Joe.
It might not be a bad thing, but the plot, gameplay and art we get to see from the trailer doesn't score high on my hype-meter.I laughed so hard when I realized what the single-button controls were for
. I realised that before the cowbell-clip(I've read too much manga and have too many weird friends to miss that out
.

10.12.2009 - 04:08 | Tool Listener
Played the demo
the demo is awesome but as the previous posts said its weird and very confusing on how a witch uses her hair or cloth to create magic demons
i guess we only have to wait for the full game.
PS: the funny thing that they put too much effort on her ass more than her face, really I'm not kidding just watch her walk from behind and you'll understand.

Controls and camera. That's what it all boils down to. If this game had a well-crafted camera (never easy) and tight controls, then the rest will fall into place. But outright hammering on the often-underwhelming girl experience of gaming geeks never hurts...usually.

I think I'll stick with Batman: Arkham Asylum for a second time... 2/10 for Bayonetta... I the problem with games that throw to much visual at you, is that they rarely provide any real climaxes, and this game looks like a mix between over the top WTF-is-going-on-Moments and TNA
-

With the internet filled with tons of free porn, sex somehow sells. As a rule I avoid action chick games as the plauge, they allways have bad controls.

The nekkedness does not offend me.
The use of the English accent in the voice acting does
Also, what's with the music?
Here we have this dark, gothic looking protagonist who wears librarian glasses and guns on her shoes...and here's some j-pop for her to fight to
It doesn't make sense...
-
11.22.2009 - 13:53 | Kalo
Agreed. There's plenty of J-rock that falls into the metal genre they could have easily shoved in there.
-

Am I imagining things, or did I see one of the enemies explode and leave a whole bunch of the Gold Rings from Sonic The Hedgehog in one of the game clips there...

I honestly hadn't heard about this game before I saw this. But I liked the Devil May Cry and God of War series, so I looked into it a bit more. After doing so, I too have a few mixed feelings.
It was seeming like a great game, but the auto-play and one button controls, hell no. I was like "wtf". I do not want gameplay sacrificed to allow people can jackoff on to their controllers. If that is a setting, like u can put training wheels on the gameplay to...uh...yeah... but that is barely an excuse. If I wanted porn, there is the internet.
-
10.12.2009 - 05:01 | CrimsonDusk - NON STOP CLIMAX ACTION
A 10/10 for me would be Borderlands and an 8/10 would be The Saboteur and 9/10 would be Mafia 2 ( but that's coming next year). For Bayonetta I would say 4.5/10 because at first I thought they were just exploiting the fact that she is designed like a disproportionate sex object but that inverted clock tower level got me interested and maybe it could be more interesting than Devil May Cry 4 also I saw online that it doesn't have the DMC4 craptastic engine that made you walk from map to map every 10 steps you made. Oh and I'm 100% behind your opinion Joe about the fact this kind of games don't deserve the 60$ if you finish them in 5-10h and that you don't have nothing else to do. I prefer a good RPG or a free-roam game.

To all who are wondering on the One Button Gameplay:
-It's only a very easy mode, it even says so in the trailer!!! It's not the normal combo system! The normal one is done with timed button pushes (like DMC) and strin commands (like NG)Some things that should be said in the video to up the hype;
-The game is made by Platinum games, a dream team of Japanese game creators. (SEGA only does the PS3 port, which means that the X360 version looks much better)
-Hideki Kamiya is director, other works of his are Okami, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil.
-And you kinda failed to show any real gameplay, most of what you showed where from scenes and battles made to be over the top.My score is 9/10. I love the DMC series, both the action and bad humor, and this game seems to have both! Plus the obvious sexual jokes are lie icing on a cake
And @ ----xXx----, the music is more speed Jazz than J-pop and the rings are halos from the angels she kills!

"-And you kinda failed to show any real gameplay, most of what you showed where

But Hey if your giving this one a 9, thats on you my man. I just cant bring myself to care to much about this one with all the big releases here.
Luckly when Bayonetta releases shes wont be up against much in Jan I dont think. Maybe Army of Two: 40th Day and 1 other title.
-
10.12.2009 - 05:11 | mexrage - Hideki Kamiya?
Well, Hideki Kamiya seem to be the mind behind this game, let's see what games he had big involment
-Resident Evil 2 (considered the best classic RE)
-Devil May Cry (the first one and when that thing was release, it was awesome, unique and nobody had played something like that before)
-Viewtiful Joe (a very unique back to the 2D gaming with lots of new features, i only played the first one when it was released on PS2 and i love it)
-Okami (i didnt play it, but many person praised that game alot). So cold logic say that chances are very high to be atleast a good game, i am abit saddened my the fact that this game is way to sexualized (that's more like Itagaki way, and i dispise that guy). But i kinda understand the situation, japanese games are very hard to sell on the west right now, most people dont care about new series on the west (Okami sold very poorly btw) and want to buy sequels and spin offs of the same game they see is popular.

I mean seriously, why are the angels evil and the witch good?I think the Angel monsters are supposed to symbolize the Corruption and hypocrisy that's usually common with most forms of authority figures. Just because they look like someone or something we trust doesn't mean they are trust-worthy.
If you've ever seen the movie Ladyhawke it was about a church ruled by an Evil Arch Bishop who secretly practiced dark magic and cursed two lovers to become animals at a certain time of day and night to keep them separated out of sheer jealously and cowardly hid behind a church with holy armies at his command, That's corruption and hypocrisy if I've ever seen it.

You know you may have a point, I didn't think about that. Heck, the US government isn't exactly squeaky clean either.
-
10.12.2009 - 05:25 | YukoValis - hm
I would give it 7/10 so far, then again I like Devil May Cry type games. It's obvious they are using her as a selling point and even though I am a male I don't buy it. The internet is for porn not video games
so it is from the graphic style I mainly judge. I'll wait for for the demo.

10.12.2009 - 05:26 | AlucardsQuest
Oh definitely nudity hype. Sega's franchises have been tanking harder and harder with each release, so they see this game "Climax" has been making and they say, "Hey, let's completely sell out, and market a game that revolves entirely around nudity. It worked for the mediocre Dead or Alive series!" What a plan to revive their ailing company namesake that was once know for innovative and fun games huh?
I disagree with your feelings about the genre. The whole idea is that they give you tons of moves and you make the game interesting yourself by switching them up, (of course the crutch is that some enemies require you to do only certain moves). If the game is still boring after that, it may be because of lame level design.
But I don't see this as anything but a DMC clone, made by the same people. What I wasn't aware of is the one button fighting... that ruined the game for me right there. Instead I recommend people try Brutal Legend, Splatterhouse & Castlevania Lords of Shadow instead. Bayonetta looks like a one "trick" pony that we've seen several times before.
Something else that bothers me is that the woman isn't attractive. Small head, giant hands, huge feet, librarian glasses, wart on her face... she's a monster. People have actually been comparing her to Sarah Palin! Are ya'll that desperate? Of the millions of beautiful women in the world, and you pick Sarah Palin as a standard? I feel sick just thinking about it.
Something else that's going to kill this game is the sound. First the voice acting. Sega is NEVER known to take time with voice acting, it's always bad in their games. Second the music. This jazzy ear torture is not going to be listen-worthy. Japanese have different tastes than Americans for sure, but as far as I'm concerned they dropped the ball on the music.
So lovingly, Bayonetta gets a 1/10. SAVE YOUR MONEY, NOTHING TO SEE HERE. There are sexier female action heroes out there to ring your bell than this... thing.

10.12.2009 - 05:30 | Pollix - Good for Rent
It looks like fun, may not be worth the $60 at the store but definantly something to look into to rent for a week and beat.
One thing that caught my interest though was some of the unique backgrounds and music, some fighting games could take a lesson from that portion of the game.
-
10.12.2009 - 05:46 | SomethingGerman - I played the demo
and the game is so friggin awesome to play (ps3 version)
I love the overkill of shit happening on screen when you fight.
Btw Joe there is a demo out.
Talking about hype, this is the only game coming out in 2010 that I am hyped for.
-
10.12.2009 - 05:47 | nice.colour - Not getting my dime!
For starters Joe, I do like those God of War and Devil May Cry games, but when you mix it with Laura Croft exploitation and that ridiculous Wii auto-play its simply a 1/10. Games with creative art styles and 30 things going on on-screen are a dime a dozen these days. But this game game is not getting any of my dimes.
Cheers Joe, love your show!
-
10.12.2009 - 06:07 | GLKnight - My view
5.3.
On the one hand, it's a basic platformer with auto-controls for single player. Solid artwork on par with newer Final Fantasy's. In-game graphics are impresive, but FMV moments are somewhat lackluster, on par with the PS2. Storywise, yeah it's good. D-Grey Man or Big O definitely had a lot to do with the story influencing the art. Unique powerset, but entirely designed for fanservice. You'll be saying things like "Bitchin'!", but it's either for the creatures that were summoned, or for the fact that the player has quite a bit of control over the camera. If you know what I'm intoning...
And the other hand? I'm trying to stop it from doing what the game designers wanted me to do while playing Solo...
My opinion? Rental, but there's not gonna be much challenge if I understand the gameplay/AI ratio. At best, it's a solid Devil May Cry clone, but at worst, it's a Gungrave/Drake of the 99 Dragons situation.
And for the guys questioning her hair/magic/guns/swords combo? Her hair is pitch black. I'm guessing a connection to the "Void" from which the creatures reside? So here's a possible reason: Her hair is a focus which allows her to summon the creatures. Besides, it's magic. They don't have to explain shit...

10.12.2009 - 06:06 | Freezer
When I watch this game footage, some titles immediately come to mind:
Red Ninja
Bullet Witch
X-Blades
WetSee a pattern? I hold out hope that Bayonetta can deliver on the Gameplay/T&A combo that, so far, only Tomb Raider and Dead Or Alive have gotten right (mostly).
But I won't hold my breath.
-
10.12.2009 - 06:14 | commanderhavoc
I'm not sure if this game will do well when it comes out.
Its better to play either Devil May Cry or God of War.
So I'm giving this game 2/10.
This game just seems too weird for me.
-
10.12.2009 - 06:18 | Kaiju-Z
Hmmm, on one hand it looks like a very good game.
On the other *removes hand from crotch*
w>Could be a hit, could be a miss.
-
10.12.2009 - 06:20 | Grahamreaper - Rental at most.
Never put sex or erection material in a game as it will either acheive a gamer playing with wood or a gamer playing with his wood on pause. Either way it makes me a bit uneasy. The game seem to have too much going on at once which is ok for cutscenes but to play with all that going on can feel a bit daunting and i tend to lose focus and drift to boredom as i dont know whats going on. The one button action thing is ok if its ment for kids or for tards who dont usually play games but the pervy content seems to say its not for kids. But its a sega game and they generally have some gripping stories so who knows it might have some positive value but never for a full priced game.
