  • Deimos1984rd  - I COMPLETELY HEAR YOU ON NUMBER 5

Copcom should at least make a patch to improve Sheva's AI, She keeps wasting ammo just shooting at me instead of the enemy along with wasting herbs.I looooooove Resident Evil 5 but I agree with everything you're saying especially about the control schemes.

  • CrimsonDusk  - Yep

Yeah you have allot of good points there but what pissed me off was the multiplayer stunt ( yu have to pay for it), the shortness of the game in comparison with RE4, the fact you have to have a friend with you to play the frigging game and the fact that nothing changed (just the graphics and the fact there are less quick time events but when they are it's like: WTF I didn't know it was interactive) oh and you still move like you are a turret and can't shoot while running. But what do you expect in a time were a sequel is considered just by having a number ( HALO 3, Gears of War 2) and not by having a total image overhaul ( Fallout 3, Half-Life 2).

  • Shinizaru

Well, there was one thing that I'd add to your list...okay 2 things. That would be why is it a carbon copy of RE4? I mean seriously. I only played the demo of this game and a little of 4, and I felt like it was the same game, just different characters.

The other thing is WTF HAPPENED TO CHRIS?! There should be a constant with your characters! When did Chris have the time to go to the gym 'fighting his way out of hell'?!

A game series I'd like you to take a look at would be Final Fantasy. It's been slowly going downhill, and there are many things it could stand to change. Another one might be the Tales series and the Kingdom Hearts series. Not that I really had a problem with either series, but I"m sure others saw some things that they didn't like and could stand to see changed.

  • DanManX

Very nicely, professionally done Joe. I am truly impressed with the production quality of this.

Also, I loved the Role Models segments. Hilarious juxtaposition. And the gag where you magically change clothes when switching from "professional" to "angry" was inspired.

  • I-dream-of-Hoolleewooood2

Watch your backs everyone, we've stranded into Video-game politics.

  • Swamphunter  - Spoilers, blah blah blah whatever.

    Yo Joe,

If you had to add a sixth point, I recommend that it should be that Jill Valentine isn't blond.

She's been a brunette since forever, and to see her in 5 with blond hair and that stupid leather suit while pretending to be Zero Suit Samus was a total heart breaker in my book.

  • SquarEvil

Well, I enjoyed the video (though I think you spent a little too much time on the DLC, especially since it was only number 3 on the list).

But anyway, I do disagree with some of your points.

#5 - I won't disagree with it, though I've only played the game on Co-op so it didn't really affect me.

#4 - Yeah, I agree. That was BS. You really should be able to move while using the knife. But I got around that by just shooting their limbs and using the melee attacks.

#3 - That's debatable. I personally don't really mind the DLC, especially if putting it on the disc would've delayed the game. RE5 is one of the few big games that was NEVER delayed after the announced release date (and they made damn sure to keep that date). I have so little free time now with being back in college that I'm glad it was released during my spring break, since I was able to finish it before returning.

But, I won't be buying versus anyway unless a lot of my friends decide to get it. And I call BS on the SF4 costumes.

#2 - As far as the controls themselves, I don't mind them. I think it's at least improved over the PS1 games.

But anyway, You hate the inventory system? I liked it, personally. It made the game more tense for me. Plus, I HIGHLY prefer being able to switch weapons/items with the D-pad over having to pause the damn game and sort through the briefcase to find the gun I want, like in RE4. Now THAT took me out of the experience.

#1 - I played the old RE games back when they were on the PS1. I LIKED them. I didn't love them like some of the fans did. I just barely liked them enough to play the sequels. Then RE4 came out, and I LOVE that game. So I don't mind the "morw actiony" direction it's taking, although I hope they change more of the game for RE6.

The puzzles in RE5 were the worst moments for me (especially having to do them with a friend). I think it should either be single player w/ lots of puzzles, or co-op with no puzzles.

The Action/Survival mode sounds interesting. I would definitely like to see how that would turn out in the game.

Though overall I still like RE4 over RE5, I enjoyed this one anyway, just not as much.

But anyway, I'll definitely look forward to more of these 5 reasons videos, especially if it's for a game I've already played.

I'm extremely tempted to bitch you out for your #1 comments. Mostly because it sounds like you don't even LIKE the fact that resident evil is supposed to be a SURVIVAL HORROR. You sound more like the type to enjoy adventure games.

Anyway, I'm going to completely disagree with you on your #2 point. The controls blow and a real time inventory system just sucks. I prefer the classic version, but I can understand a survival horror wanting to be a bit more realistic. But they jumped from a stand still to a totally real time thing! I'd rather sift through my inventory and then have a small waiting time while he changes his weapon, you know what I mean?

Also, if you wish to debate back at me, then let's do it through IMs or something? I'd rather not disturb AJ's video comments more.

This kid sounds like a friggin douchebag. If you didnt like the old RE games, then shut your F-ing mouth. You have no right commenting on the game. Why didnt you like them? Cause they scared you? Grow a pair and stop sucking Capcom dong.

Other franchises like GoW have provided us w/ free DLC. Capcom needs to do the same. ESPECIALLY when that SAME downloadable content is FREE in Japan. Racist SOBs.

If you've only played Co-Op, how the F*CK can you comment? THINK MORON! Stop talking about sh*t if you dont have a clue what your talking about.

You say "puzzles" as though there is more than one puzzle in the game.

Honestly, all I can remember is that stupid mirror reflecting one, where touching the beam instantly kills you.

And I can't stand the action direction Capcom is taking. Yes, the games are insanely fun to play in their own right, but they're not Resident Evil games anymore. They're just crazy shooters that happen to have characters from Resident Evil.

  • DragonTyph

nice music. Can i get a copy of the track, Tres awesome!

I'd like for you to send your hate in the direction of BLIZZARD entertainment... maybe you can slap some sense into them before they destroy whats left of world of warcraft >.

  • guywiththecontacts  - resident evil? 5

I would have to agree that the game is straying farther into the action genre and away from the survival horror genre, but I would prefer the game to go further back towards the survival horror style. not to say you can't have more action. I think that resident evil 4 had a good balance. I think all the main problems stem from the co-op aspect. Those being:

The inventory system: If you had one player you wouldn't need the real time inventory and not get hacked while trying to switch weapons.

The AI: self explanatory, but I will say I never thought I would miss babysitting Ashley in 4, at least you could make her hide in a box so she didn't get her head cut off while you're trying to fight a chainsaw ganado.

The Linear Levels: This, and the story were my biggest problems with 5. In all the previous games you could wander around freely and re-explore areas you have already visited, and it would be interesting, because there would be different enemies there or a piece to a puzzle. With two people playing it would be too frustrating to backtrack for two people, and it would be difficult to maintain attention; thus the linear levels. This makes it stray from the resident evil formula too much. I was very pissed off when I played through this game and encountered one puzzle, and it was so incredibly easy it took five seconds to figure it out.

Half @$$ed story: I don't think that it is necessasary to change the formula every game, but you do need to advance the plot. Resident evil has always had a well developed attention maintaining stroy, until now. The game opens the same exact way as resident evil 4 did: you walk in a building, there is a guy, he attacks you, you kill him and state how he is not a zombie. There is some new random addition of some new orginization, and no continuance from the last time we saw chris in code Veronica. So finally after being reunited with his sister, Claire, he just ditches her and never mentions her again. Instead we get a new character. By this point in the series they should be trying to wrap it up. Even something as simple as replacing Sheva With Claire or Rebbeca would have been better. So the story jumps in to tracking down some dude I don't know care, then finding some chick I don't care about, then finding THE VIllan of the series has gone to generic power hungry I'll take over the world type. There are also the stupid changes they made for practically no reason, like how chris gained 150 pounds of muscle in the last five years or so, and turned from a slender faced guy to what looks like the love child of Daniel Craig and Shrek. Or how they made jill blonde just for the sake of making her blonde. Why!? Not to mention in this addition the characters are about as deep as the neiborhood rec-center's kiddie pool. These were interesting characters in the previous edditions.

I do not mind the controll style these games are not meant to be played just running up to someone and blasting them, in 4 it was all about terrain advantage, how can I position myself so I can take these guys out while they rush me. Half the battle was finding the right strategical position. If you want a game with run and gun play Halo, or something.

If they would have done the same design as 4, but with a different story, I would have liked the game much more.

  • EeveE

i must agree in most points, but for the deal with the DLC and the dispute that it isnt resident evil anymore arent totaly right in my view.

first of all, i work with selling and distrubution of games, music and movies. there is in fact often diferent budgets for diferent projects, an example from real life, one of the stores i work for had to have a special sale at a sales booth where they sold dvds for 3 for ca 30 bucks (200 norwegian kroner), but the dvds in the booth couldnt be mixed with the dvds in the store itself (that where for the same price) becouse of the two diferent budgets, showing how big influence the budget have on sale projects.

as for the changes to the franchise, that change has been bit by bit since resident evil 2, and though i must admit that the feel of the games have changed, but the fear aspect is still there, only its been changed from fear of hidous monsters and the unknown that lurkes behind the next corner to a panic that comes when you're souronded by Manji and have no idea which way they are going to attack from, or where to run. at least on profesional, where you wil die from two hits by the weakest opponents.

BTW i must atmidt that i like the controls, becouse it realy gives the player the chance to be more methodical than with normaly, but also since it gives me that R.E feel.
    Just my opinion.

  • Thismanwithoutthemspecs  - Pfft

    SPOILERRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

My biggest hate was the Jill Valentine narrative horse shit. I mean seriously, we were supposed to believe she had died? Oh, and I wonder who the bitch in the heels could be? COME ON!!! I would have been wow'd if they'd had the balls to finish her off. And since when should wesker resemble a pale Eminem with a wardrobe malfunction. You're right though; this game is no longer Resident Evil.

  • Shinigami

Great stuff and lot of good points.

  • Shinjischneider

You say some good stuff. But i got to disagree with you too. (as if you'd care ;))

    Nr. 5.

Yes.... your Partner sometimes really sucks when he keeps shooting you in the back.
At least it doesn't hurt that much.

    Nr. 4.
It's pretty stupid too make the game faster while at the same time you let people stand still to shoot. True

    Nr. 3.
The downloadable content really sucks. It's like fricking downloadable games for your cell phone. "hey you got some spare 5 bucks? Well not for long." (although i think you overdid it there with the clips and everything)

    Nr. 2.
Honestly? I like the controls. And if you arrange your weapons correct you can access them without even opening the menu. (i just say analog up,down, left, right).

    Nr. 1.
Ok yes. It's not really a resident evil anymore. It became more like an incest brother of RE and DMC...

Just one last thing... I don't thing "Angry Joe" is such a good name choice. Especially not, if there already is an angry gamer around ranting all the time.

  • DeathByMetal08  - Havent played RE5 yet

but good video. I like this style the most.

  • teh sandvich

I agree with number 1 and 5 nothing was scary it might as well been gears of war 3 and for 5 sheva wastes all my good herbs i tell her to hold, i got another one why the hell did they remove to case using sizes for better managing i mean an egg was an egg in re4 but in re5 an egg = a grenade launcher and army zombie tactics seriously??

  • Silv3r  - Well.

The biggest one is the inventory system (like Yahtzee talked). I have a co-op buddy, don't have problems with the control and i don't care if it's more action and less horror.

    But the DLC is bs.

  • mwong04  - dunt own the game

Although I havent owned the game to start off I think these are very positive comments those commands are bullshit and the controls are staggering

    here is a mwong04 suggestion
    Kill yourself

  • YukoValis  - sorry dude

but your REALLY boring. I mean you make good points and all, but seriously spice it up. It took you 4 minutes to get things going! then a cheesy middle? People look just go watch Yahtzee.

  • Excalibur  - My gripe

The intense gunplay is cool and fun, but when you come face to face with enemies with AK-74s and RPGS and turrets, having the ability to walk while shooting will go a long way, but the creators didn't want to do that because it takes away the intense quick aiming you have to do. Bullcrap. They did it because they don't want their game to feel like Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gears of Wars. I wouldn't have made this complaint if all enemies don't shoot back with full auto assault rifles. Bows and arrows and crossbows are ok, but when AKs are shooting at you, I like a better cover system and moving while shooting or aiming so I can peer around corners and take out threats.

For me about the AI, it only started to piss me off in the higher difficulty settings like in Professional mode. She is never NEXT TO YOU to heal you when you are hit and you die instantly when she isn't there. MGS4 has a similiar idea with the action mode where you can either be stealhty or go full 3rd person action shooter.

With her shooting, though she wastes ammo, the AI DOES have a very good shot. She can take out things with a handgun from a distant that I need a sniper rifle to see.

  • Zenstudentflex69  - GREAT review!

Truly awesome. Very tastefully done, and without going into the nit-picking (spelling?) and bitching some online reviewers do with their games. If I had to pick 5 things to complain about in this game and want changed, it would definitely be yours; I can see why Capcom didn't want to drift away from what was already an almost perfect game back in '05, but things've changed since then, especially with horror. Anyway, though, AWESOME review! I can't wait for the next installment! : )

  • Sanosuke

wow that was a good vid joe i agree with everything you said. look forward to more of these

  • Mirthe  - errr...ok..

meh. point 2 is way off, the controls and inventory worked fine. bind weapons and heals to your d-pad.I cant believe all the whining over this stuff it makes you all sound like bad gamers.Ammo is few and far between?? hah i laughed at that comment give me a break i had ammo comming out my ears. the fact that you can replay any level over again for money/ammo makes this game RIDICULOUSLY easy. its nigh IMPOSSIBLE to run out of ammo or healing items. i played the game through solo then with a buddy and had no issues with AI and never NEEDED a second player to accoplish somthing. The game needed more variety in enemies and needed some scares, there wasnt a single tough enemy in the game.

I just hope that this series doesnt fall victim to the current trend of making games ridiculously easy for the current generation of gamers.when i play RE, i expect to be scared.I couldnt believe how many bright sunny levels there were, and it almost feels like they knew it, as they added filters as unlockable content.

My last point...the story.. it was so cliche and dull, there were NO plot twists or anything, you basically knew how this was going to turn out from the start.

I really hope RE DOESNT turn into a run and gun game as that pretty much would be the final blow to any tension scares in the series (what they were going for). HAH did anyone play dino crisis 2? besides all that i like the control scheme and over-the-shoulder direction of RE.

  • Phelous

Yeah they are really getting annoying with the DLC in everything. I don't have a problem with it when it is something new they came up with way after the release. But when they are holding back elements they'd normally have included just to get another 5 bucks out of you that's... BS! :woohoo:
I also don't like the survival horror switch to action, Silent Hill 5 did that as well due to the new developer.
    Loved the suggestion.

  • comzikraut

Holy shit what's with those shitty ass controls? You know that real-time menu bullshit is what made me not like a lot of newer games. I tried playing KH with my cousin once and I just couldn't. I was good at PLAYING but that FUCKING REAL TIME MENU!

I also hate it when games go off topic. One thing that bothered me about some new RPGs is they'd make you play sports and other bullshit that I honestly suck at and find boring as hell. I buy an RPG I EXPECT an RPG! D< Fuck their new games! I'm sticking with old school. Honestly I think the game industry knows they have a hold on people so they're using it to fuck us.

  • Benjamin Ficus  - thanks lord, somebody pointed it out!

i have not played re5, but i had the same complains (well, not everyone) for re 4!
    great job angry joe!
re serie is going to much far away from is origins, and it may not be bad, if the final product does not suck this much...
    you know what, it's BS!

  • trigger12

you should really include the voice acting. I haevnt played it, but i know that resdent evil games, being a japanies developed game franchise, has been plague with terribble, unrealistic dialog and voiacting.

I'm 99% sure the bad voice acting and dialogue is on purpose, its so bad in places it must be. In RE4 (havn't played 5) it often seems to be parodying action and horros films. In my opinion its part of the charm of the series, although i can see why most people hate it.

And as for the controls (for 4, i havnt played 5) i LOE them, even the knife. Having to stand still to shoot makes it alot tenser, and is one of the main things that seperates it from typical action games.

Oh and great episode Joe! this ep feels really proffesional and made me laugh alot :)

  • Lotus Prince

Honestly, I like the bad voice acting, simply because it's become Resident Evil's thing.

  • AngryJoeShow  - Wow! Great Stuff So Far!

    Wow Guys! :woohoo:
This is seriously great reading so far, Ive read through all of the comments posted so far and there's just so many good points that you bring up it makes me want to redo the video with these stronger points!

    You guys rock!

We might have to come up with some system where My Preview Videos allow us to brain storm what we want to see, and are excited about playing - then when the game comes out we could start a discussion on the forums and get a really good strong list together - i'll produce the video, get it out there, and throw it all in an open letter and forward it to the game developers....

People kiss these guys ass all day I think it would be refreshing for them to see what gamers hated - in an intelligent fun parody video type format, without all the hateful ranting and trolling.

Let me know what games you might want to see next.

Im thinking Halo Wars, or maybe Empire: Total War, I wanted to stay recent - and these are Two games that are getting alot of sales and praise but to be honest have serious issues - and might be held up only because of their Big Names.

  • Lotus Prince

I'd love to see either, but just so you know, The Spoony One has already done a rant on Empire: Total War.

  • AngryJoeShow  - Future Videos!

Oh and Keep Posting your Lists!

I read all the comments, all of them.
    B)

But add in What Recent games you want to see next!

Or sign up at our website and post your ideas there for some AngryJoer's to read through! We got some really cool fans over there - it would be awesome to have you guys on board too!...

  • M4rkku  - But what I don't understand is...

Almost every review I have seen of Resident Evil 5 says the same thing,
"Sheva can hold her own in a fight..."
That's bullshit... The A.I. is dumber than a garbage-can. Sure Sheva will give me bullets and heal me when I need it but SHE WONT COVER MY ASS!! In a game where there is NO choice to go solo, why not make the A.I. a little better? And that's my only problem with this game....

  • SoulReaver

Pure awsomenes i really hope you could do furute reviews on other popular games giving sugestions on how to improve the series of games make me wonder why others didnt thought it in the first place. I have fan boys who dont give explanations so geek going in the right direction Thumbs up
