Brad, you and the rest of thecinemasnob.com gang did a nice job with this film as you did with Hooker with a Heart of Gold. Don't worry, I'll find a time to watch Cheap, Freak Out, Game Boys, and Midnight Heat.

Pretty good flick. Although I can't say I like part of the twist ending all that much. Him being dead is all well an good, but him going on a murder spree just because he once killed a guy in self defense is kinda stretching it. Still a good movie overall.

This was amazing, the music and visuals worked so well with the story and kept me highly entertained. You did a great job.

Gave a pretty full comparison of this cut and the DVD cut on Brad's site. I personally liked the DVD cut slightly better, but both are worth everyone's time.

Anyway, good movie. My third favorite of Brad's, with Hooker and Game Boys over them and Freak Out, Cheap, and Midnight Heat below (I know, blasphemous of me to put Midnight Heat at the bottom).

    FORGET IT MARK! *slams box*

Yeah, this is the line where I forgot I was watching Brad and Sarah.

I'll refrain a final opinion until I actually finish, which I unfortunately can't do at the moment.

I saw this on the troller a long while back. I am glad to be able to say on here I loved the video.

Although it raises a question about my sanity sense I kinda saw certain things coming.

I saw this version now for the second time and although I didn't see the "Director's Cut" I really don't think that I'd like it better, cause the use of the pop-song-interludes here creates a very dreamy "driving by night on your own" atmosphere. Funny enough, that I myself have some of the songs on cassette in my car.

The only thing I really didn't like was the extremly overexplained ending. The whole thing should have been explained with images, a montage or something. "Show, DON'T TELL!" and even after everything was clear at the end, the "Charon"-Taxi-Pun was another over the top thing. Not that it's bad, but what about an rather ambigious ending where the solution is rather hinted at and BAMM, then the ending with the Charon-Taxi and Jerrids reappering character and voila, an ending that, I think, would better fit the moody and more mysterious rest of the flic.

For the first time, I also had, no, not an issue, but a slight irritation through the very episodic feeling movie-structure, but at the end of the first watch I really got behind it and loved it. So for the second time, I knew what I was getting and loved it even more, well, except for the ending. ;-)

A great "writer's cut" which because of obvious reasons would be pretty tricky or rather expensive to put out because of the songs, but I really have to say nevertheless: Thank you very much for this great (and also free) movie, Mr. Jones and everyone else who was involved!
  • Random_Ninja_5  - Best Psychothriller Evah!!!1!
I really enjoyed watching this. Brad is superb as the protagonist. While I have to admit that I kind of saw the "twist" coming, it doesn't detract from the movie or the viewing experience. I agree that maybe the explanation may have been a bit wordy, I still liked it. The events transpire without a chronological order apart from starting at the house with the spousal quarrel. The repeated imagery of the breaking mug is a nice touch that lets the audience get a hint that something is amiss, without it being shoved into their faces with "SYMBOLISM OMFGGENIUSBBQ!!!1"

I have yet to see any of the other projects done by this crew (other than the Cinema Snob reviews and such). After watching this, I'm am now planning on checking them out.

Visually, this movie had great mood and atmosphere. The News reports about a mysterious killer, Brad's character slipping into a craze where he's not sure what is real and isn't, the practical effects are superb and I can let some of the gun effects slide.

Now I will type in trailer/cover quotes
"A psychological thriller for the ages."
"Brad Jones has the audience on the edge of their seat"
"Paranoia; is it really happening, or is it just your imagination."

In all seriousness, I really did enjoy this movie. I can picture this even on the big screen. There is great direction, chemistry, suspense, and the writing is some of the best I've watched in years. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.

This was really good. It was flawed, but the tension was flowing fluently the whole way through. (almost nothing put me off and made me realise I was basically watching the Cinema Snob with a gun)
I'm planning on getting the DVD soon, I'd like to compare both versions.
  • Cassave  - Really worth watching...

You know where it is going from the start (because it's that kind of story) but it is really well told and it kept my attention until the reveal. I genuinely enjoyed watching it! 8)

the twist was not one I was pissed about but rather enjoyed. you took it in an interesting direction being that the casual observer would see you as a schizophrenic or a multiple personality disorder sufferer, but as it all develops we find this to not be the case and we are delightfully surprised... yes we knew you were the killer the whole time, but it is the nature you give yourself that makes the difference to me. well done Brad I am soo pleased with your performance I may just buy the movie which says something because I am fairly stingy about buying things for myself.

The acting is stiff at first, but as Mark slips deeper into madness, Brad seems to get more comfortable and natural in his role.

Mr. Jones is a very handsome man. I absolutely love his eyes - they are so expressive.

So he is stuck in that infinite loop for all eternity til he comes to grips with what happened? Or is being stuck in it his price to pay? Either way it is really good. And the Charon taxi thing...I see what you did there...haha. Awesome job!

Hey Brad, great movie. It was entertaining the whole way through. I applaud you on keeping the suspense going and having great pacing for the movie. I enjoyed it a lot.

I came into this expecting some amateur drivel, like most films of this sort that I've seen. I came out of this declaring Paranoia among the best films I've ever seen in my life. And I mean that.

Brad, as usual, is great at what he does. Guy's just got a great stage presence and he really gets into the role. And, naturally, it helps that he's a pretty good-looking guy with an awesome voice.

The ending was a bit too "tell, don't show" but that's not a big issue: It's not an easy twist to just show. It needs explanation. And I, for one, love the Charon taxi. Always great to see a mythology fan slip references into their work.

I can see where some might find the whole "he killed one guy in self-defense and became a serial murderer" bit to be a stretch...But it makes fair enough sense if you consider the character. He would constantly isolate himself and isolation causes extreme mental stresses over time (believe me, I know)...Add to that the fact that the work he stayed isolated for was failing miserably Finally, toss in what can be assumed to be a very rough relationship with its fair amount of heated fights, and you've got a guy with tenuous mental health at best.

Also, I read an interview about this film and Brad mentioned something about a 'dream film', described as a "post apocalyptic action slasher"...I have no idea what that could be but those words together just sound brilliant. I'll definitely be keeping tabs on Brad's film work from now on.

As far as I can tell from the ending, Mark's memory of the whole incident was wiped the instant he left the church, leading to the taxi ride home where it would all just start again...Certainly a better twist than the standard multiple-personality bit.

Great film. Among the best I've seen. To put my opinion into perspective: I'm seriously considering buying the DVD. And I'm a guy that pirates damn near everything to save cash.
  • dr_kramik  - keep up the good work

Very nice. Here some criticism, i want constructive: I think that more than 30 minutes can still be edited out. Dialog scenes lack long shots in particular (shot where you see both character talking)and variable shots values in general. And for continuity sake, people, learn to MIX the sound. Sound is too often disregarded, but it's way that much important as cinematography.

What do you know, that one was actually kinda good. I thought it was turning into one of those illogical late eighties noir ripoffs until it went all "carnival of souls" on me.

I'd nitpick... the sound is a bit "off" here and there, and I can swear I heard someone in the crew laugh during that "stars" monologue with the dead guy, but for a movie that looks like it cost like $50 to make... who cares?

You got some grade-A narm in the end scene in the church. Loved it.

was this supposed to be in black and white? Because the trailer was in color
  • digwithashovel
Yes, the "director's cut" is in color, but Brad's "writer's cut" was intended to be a B&W film.

Already gave all of my thoughts on Brad's site, so I'll just say that I truly enjoyed my self

The ending twist was a bit generic for my taste, as I was expecting something more ironic, or at least a bigger mind-screw, but it was overall a very enjoyable flick with great atmosphere

I think I would have wanted to see it in color. But I really did enjoy this.
I thought it had a fair amount of suspense, tension and mystery, as it should. But I thought some acting parts were weaker than others, but i'm okay with it since i'm familiar with these people.

I overall like it, and the twist was pretty good as well. Its a treat for any Brad Jones fan.
