AWESOME MOVIE! If you love the first you'll love the second. Gru, the girls and MINIONS! What more could you want. El Macho was a great villain and his son was great at being annoying. And of course the chicken. Just great. Bottom, heh, heh, heh! LOL!

    1. Texas. It takes place in Texas. They said that a lot. Though I understand your confusion, because they filmed it all over the southwest.

    2. The beginning took place in 1933. It said it on the screen.

    3. This film is 2.5 hours long, just like Pirates of the Caribbean was 2.5 hours long. And that film has even less going on, but apparently it somehow isn't a problem in that film. Just in this one.

    4. I liked that he was a bit of an idiot and super-naive, and he does get better over the course of the film. And he was never really pitched as a super-awesome character in this film.

    5. The violence: The heart moment was a bit much. But it IS PG-13. The rest didn't really hit home. There wasn't really blood or gore, and the movie goes to the next thing pretty quickly. The beam crushing the heads happend quickly, no sound, no blood, next scene.

    6. Tonto falling: It's a summer action movie. Jack Sparrow fell off of a giant cliff into the ocean in Pirates, and that would have killed him. You should really just relax.

    7. Not Tonto's tribe. They're Comanche, but not the group he was from. There's maybe a couple dozen of them, not hundreds.

    8. Tonto and Cavendish are easily the best characters in the film. I agree that the Lone Ranger is weak, but I didn't mind too much and felt Armie Hammer did a good job with what he was given.

    9. There's a BIG strand of "the unreliable narrator" in this film, which is something that not a SINGLE review I have read has even mentioned. Some of those things you're mentioning as mistakes or problems seem like they were intentional.

    10. The train chase at the ending was maybe 15% too much, but it was also really inventive and fun that I didn't care if there was more than needed.

    11. The objectives at the different points in the film are pretty obvious and straight forward and they go to them without much delay. There is a sense of urgency and a bunch of stuff does happen before the finale.

I felt like this was a genuinely enjoyable movie in the Pirates of the Caribbean vein and it has some weird little issues. The mystical/unreliable narrator elements make me want to watch it again to try and make better sense of it. I think they were trying to hint that this was a story an old indian was telling a kid and no one knows whether it was true or not.

You didn't even mention the crow coming back to life and flying away at the end.

If that last comment came off a bit snippy in places, I apologize. I just feel like none of the critics are really giving this movie a chance and most of their arguments don't make much sense to me and I want to understand their point of view better.

If I went in expecting a hilarious trainwreck, will it deliver the lulz, or does it disappoint there too? & I don't mean intended comedy; I want it to be funny for all the wrong reasons.

Not really. If you find the first Pirates movie to be unintentionally hilarious, then yes. It feels very much like that movie, which is why I don't understand why people seem to hate this movie.

Personally, it's because the charm of Depp's self-indulgent crap wore off after the first Pirates.

Maybe I'm too harsh, but it's starting to seem like a bad '90s Jim Carrey' impression with the over-the-top... thing, he does instead of acting.

To be honest, I only remember the first one, & not very well.

If there's one thing that I love about Gore Verbinski, it's that he always has fun and creative action scenes. That train chase at the end with William Tell blaring pretty much made the movie for me. Too bad the other two hours were boring and dragged on forever.

And did they really need to throw in the love interest?

If this movie takes place in the 30s... does that mean it's in the same universe as the Green Hornet movie?

I had the feeling that's who the kid was meant to be.

About the minions and their popularity...the McDonald's I work at just started the toys for this movie on Wednesday. We are just advertising the minions. The only toys we have are minions.

And there's one with a banana who says banana.

You guys nailed the Lone Ranger review, fuck that movie and its ungodly run time that easily could have been half of what it was.

I've watched and enjoyed your videos, Brad, but when you used "pussy" as an epithet, I closed the video. You have lost a listener.

I literally fell asleep in The Lone Ranger :/ Felt bad, but I was so bored XD

As for Despicable Me 2, I really enjoyed it :)

I actually burst out laughing when the minions started singing "Irish Drinking Song" in the movie. Everyone looked at me weird, but I couldn't stop laughing XD

I loved Despicable Me 2. It was straight forward fun. Not as good as the 1st movie, but I still loved it.

As for Kristen Wiig, well it depends if you like her, if you do you'll like Lucy, if you don't you'll find her annoying. I like Kristen Wiig and her antics so all possitive for me.

    Go Minions!

PS. Kristen Wiig was also in the first movie. She was the orphanage lady.
