11.10.2012 - 18:23 | Moreno XEverything that Brad is being joyous is my same reaction after seeing Skyfall last night, and as a person who is not a James Bond fan nor a Daniel Craig fan, it's safe for me to say the least that I really had a great time with the film.
Daniel and the build-up for the villain what got me to stay through with action-packs and the very last part of the film was BEAUTIFUL. Whoever the cinematography is has done a wonderous job, capturing the atmosphere of a JM premise and take it all the way it can to deliver the last bits before the credits. I love the fiery backgrounds and IT MAKES SENSE when you're battling with baddies in a lonely field inside a lonely house. It was awesome and I approve it. So yeah, I enjoyed and so does Brad.
Thanks for the video Brad, you must be proud to add Skyfall in your JM collection.

11.10.2012 - 21:37 | GernBlanstonTHIS was the movie I wanted to follow Casino Royale. It becomes much more apparent that these 2 movies are about the the birth of James Bond as 007 - his evolution from a rough-edged, newly-minted 00 to the man we eventually know, albeit the new millennium version.
If it wasn't for the old movies' period setting and the new movies' modern setting, something tells me you could put Craig's movies as the prequels to the Connery ones. Pretty rad.

11.10.2012 - 23:14 | nemo3590I love that you guys noticed Rob Walker in the movie. It was bothering me the entire time I was watching it. Where had I seen that guy before? It only hit me when I was driving home from the theater--Holy crap, that was Rob!
Obviously it wasn't actually him, but the resemblance was uncanny.

The Bond movies don't have a continuity, but at the same time they do. Each new bond movie isnt a sequel, but at the same time they can follow on from each other.
They basically live in their own little world where time doesn't exist. A writer can pick and choose what they want to reference from previous films but that doesn't mean it is the sequel to those movies, they just live in this world where the laws of space and time don't apply!
The only true sequel is Quantum of Solace as it was a direct continuation of that story.
I have to admit, it was fun trying to make sense of the classic Aston, and when does M actually tie into the story (she makes her debut in Goldeneye where Bond has a little issue with her being a women yet in Casino Royale she's the M that gave Bond his job....whut!?) But to actually try and make sense of the the timeline is utterly futile and shouldn't be done in any serious fashion! :)

I'm still surprised that there was still anybody who thought that there were multiple people who were "James Bond" (aka the "Codename Theory").
Lazenby's Bond had his wife murdered. Connery returned in the next movie and was ready to fucking murder Blofeld because of the death. Then you had the later Bond's referencing Tracy's death either by a line of dialogue or by actually visiting her gravesite. That is more than enough to show this is the same guy, regardless of the various actors.
Daniel Craig's introduction however was a reboot. It's a prequel in one sense, and a new timeline in another. So in other words when you look at the new timeline, the best way to think about it is that "Contents May Have Shifted During Travel". Dench's M was now his original boss instead of a successor. Major Boothroyd (Q) is now either gone and replaced by the young guy we have now... or he IS the young guy. (Not sure yet.) And Daniel Craig's character IS the same James Bond in the other movies... but just with a different history which we're seeing now.
In short, I'm assuming that everything that happened in movies 1-20 both happened and didn't happen in some sort of quantum state of superposition until something is mentioned one way or the other.
Otherwise I'm going to assume that Albus Dumbledore, Bruce Banner, and Captain Kirk are just codenames as well.

11.11.2012 - 10:32 | MogwaiBrody69Brian is being incredibly nitpicky here. Is it really that hard to grasp that the Craig era is a reboot with it's own continuity?

11.11.2012 - 14:12 | Alexander The GreatestWhile I completely agree with all that was said, I want to add that Brosnan's Bond is also a humanized Bond: He broke his shoulder in TWINE at the beggining, remember?

I always liked the idea of "James Bond" being a code name, too, and still think that makes the most sense for the previous films. However, Casino Royale WAS a reboot. We could simply say that the REAL James Bond, as shown in these three films, established the code name that later 007s would subsequently go by after he retired.

This is the first current review I have seen by Brad.
Overall, a wonderful review and once the spoilers start...a hilarious one. I was dying watching this.
Yeah, Brian is a little nitpicky, but he's entitled to not like a lot of the film.
Can't argue with Brad. Great points and you really know your Bond! Good to see a fellow fan who also liked this movie for all the right reasons :)

11.12.2012 - 20:12 | BBQ PlatypusThe thing that bugs me most about the James Bond codename theory - even more than the fact that it doesn't hold up under the slightest amount of scrutiny - is that it tries to answer a question that requires no answer. We don't need to know why James Bond sometimes looks like Sean Connery and sometimes looks like Pierce Brosnan anymore than we need to know why Batman isn't 90 years old.

Just got around to watching this since I recently saw the movie, and didn't want to worry about spoilers. Brad, how did you not slap Brian in this review? You have the patience of a saint! lol. Who looks for continuity in a Bond film, honestly? Should we sit down and watch Halloween III with him? Even if you wanted to create continuity in the films, the Daniel Craig films are clearly a reboot. Love ya Brian, but I just wanted to give ya a good smack in this one. :)
As to the continuity, it only makes sense if the 007 Legends game is canon. It puts all the Bond films in modern times and sets Daniel Craig as the only Bond in ALL the old films. So it would explain him having the Aston Martin from Goldfinger and other classic gadgets. Its insulting to think of ignoring all the old movies like that but its the only way it works.
