...About half-way through. But, still a fairly funny review.

Also, completely with you on the "You're a bad person for not liking what I like" crowd.

I...hated Sarah Silverman's character less than I thought I would, I even kinda liked her by the ending. I didn't mind a large portion in Sugar Rush, I enjoyed the horrifyingly adorable mix of strawberry shortcake and Mario kart. I expected just a video game version of toy story, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Epic movie, best animinated film of 2012! Admittly I did not care too much for sara silverman either but otherwise, awesome movie!
  • Danund81
I really disagree, this was a great movie. While venelope's plot was overpowering slightly it was still VERY interesting to me. It being the source of ralph's redemption also nicely tide it all together.
  • Iamabrawler
I didn't dislike Silverman's character as much. (for the record, I live in Quebec, so movies are translated to French with French Canadian voice actors, so I wasn't hearing the same voice, I thought it was okay)
Apparently, the racers in Sugar Rush are about 9yo, and I just thought the character was written like she should be for her age. As simple as that: Bratty, annoying, but keeping the depth caused by the situation. It would ahve felt weird if she acted like a teenager, right?
For me, the characters are all good, it's just that I felt like I had taken a few pounds because of Sugar Rush.
  • TheCafeDisco  - Saw it today....didn't like it.

Writing this as I am atching you review. Saw this today with high hopes but was REALLY disappointed. I read all the great reviews on imdb. People claiming it was better than toy story, thats it is going to win awards. Maybe I saw a different movie? The Wreck it Ralph that I saw began with a fresh different storyline than anything we have ever seen before. The world of video games in a movie sounds like a great idea, and it was. I loved the concept and how the gaming characters actually lived day to day in the arcade but this concept which started out as an amazing idea became a train wreck. It was visually stunning but all seemed lost in the graphics. The storyline was choppy and the characters had little developement. Even with the sad backstories, this film failed to evoke any emotion in me. I didn't care if Ralph won the metal, I didn't care if the annoying little girl couldn't race. The only emotion I felt up til the car race scene was complete boredom. The character of Felix and Jane Lynch's characters also just seem to just get in the way of the underdeveloped story. I really wanted to like this movie. Love the idea but I hate what they did with it. There was so much going on and so much lack of story and it pisses me off that there were so many wonderful things they could have chosen to do with it but somehow I ended up watching candy land on speed. Hated it.

Loved it, I'll admit the SS character was annoying and probably would of done the movie better if she was more endearing of a character then an annoying shithead but overall, I wasn't disappointed with this film, it lived up to my expectations for the most part.

I'm with you guys on finding this one though not technically bad, pretty okay. I do agree it does loose steam when a lot is spent in Sugar Rush but even before then I felt this wasn't living up to it's potetnial of being the who Framed Roger Rabbit of video game movies due to Disney not wanting to pony up and get the rights to more popular characters. It has it's moments and I do admit there were a couple of times Sarah Silverman's character made me laugh but yeah still only okay. I did really like you guys going off on Tim And Eric bullcrap anti humor since dear god I hate that too. Really there are still some good Adult Swim shows they're making (Venture Brothers, Boondocks, Black Dnymatie which you whould watch after what you did with the Cinema Snob Movie, Superjail, whatever Aqua Teen has become is still pretty good, Metalocalypse) but they need to stop with the stupid live action anti humor bull crap. They've cut back some but the fact that there's still stuff like the Eric Andre show and others in the works is proof they haven't given up on that shit.

My two kids liked more than I did, contrary to what I was expecting. I think a lot of us were expecting -as mentioned above- a Who Framed Roger Rabbit for the videogame generation and it never happened. What made Roger Rabbit magical was the interplay between their richly-defined fictional universes and their movies’ version of the real world. And in the case of Ralph, sadly this is not the case.

Still, its a great kids movie and great fun for the whole family...Sarah Silverman non-withstanding.

It's funny...looking at the trailers I NEVER got any kind of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" vibe from it at all, and I'm honestly kind of confused as to exactly where all that is coming from. I mean yeah on the POSTERS they were putting all sorts of other characters like Bison and Sonic front and center, but again from the actual clips it still looked grounded to Ralph, the little girl, and the Lady Master Chief being the focus of the story with Ralph game hopping from place to place, which at the end of the day was going to be the MOST important no matter how many familiar faces they cram into the movie. I mean would the movie REALLY be any better if Mario showed his face in the background? Really?

And most of the movie was going to take place inside the video game worlds regardless, again, where exactly are the WFRR expectations coming from? Roger Rabbit, Toy Story....yeah I just don't get it people.

If anything I got much more of a SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD vibe from it, where all the video game stuff was just going to be the aesthetics to make it a fun roller coaster of an animated movie.
  • SnowblindSupernaut
Fuck that shit! Tim & eric is awesome! If you don't "get it" that's fine, but don't try to dissect it.
  • TheRocketeer
I love Tim and Eric, and not for this pretentious reason you guys are talking about in the video.

    Good review.
I was looking for Wreck-It Ralph on some cinema programs, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Then I found out that it won't come out in my country until FEBRUARY!
I really hate living in Europe at times... -.=.-

Wow, only two butt hurt Tim and Eric fanboys? The word must not have gotten out yet.

As for the review, clear and concise, though it sounds like the movie went on a tangent for last half, Sarah Silverman not being a comedian I like would have killed the mood for me, still I'll have to check it out for myself.
  • SRanger1071  - Seriously?
They gave the Jane Lynch character a REASON to be a badass? Why can't a girl just be a badass without some emotional trauma? I know guy characters sometimes have emotional reasons for being badasses, too, but I feel like girls have to rely more on emotional stimuli than guys. And in tragic badasses (i.e. Demona from Gargoyles), it works; it adds depth and complexity. But for a sidecharacter in a comedy, especially one played by an actress who is famous for her ball-busting characters? It seems a bit unnecessary. And it's hard to picture the strong female character I've seen in the trailers with a mushy-gushy romance.
  • SkittleE

I'm pretty sure the backstory was just added in to parody the emotional stimuli you hate. It wasn't serious at all. Quite funny, really.

I liked it. I don't mind that you two...liked it less than me...

Vanellope was pretty annoying but she kinda grew on me, I thought of Timon while watching her, not particularly funny, but not hate-able (I guess)

I think Jane Lynch's character was funnier, even her romance with Felix made me laugh most of the time
  • Coolclaytony
Unlike you two gentlemen, I was not as put off by Sarah Silverman's character. I loved Vanellope, and I never really felt that her plot was overpowering Ralph's infact, I cannot think of a moment where Ralph was not the center of attention. As a guy who loves video games old and new, this movie not only met my expectations, but exceeded them.

I'm just waiting for the porn parody, RECTUM RALPH, which might be gay or straight.

This movie feels more like a Pixar film than the actual Pixar film released this year. John Lasseter has done good things for Disney. But although I'm not a fan of Sarah Silverman by any means, I actually really liked Vanellope and thought she was probably the best character in the movie. I can understand why you would be annoyed by her, but I felt like part of her character was that she was SUPPOSED to be an annoying, kinda bratty kid. But I felt they balanced the annoyingness and the sympatheticness well.
  • xxhexx00  - gotta say...

that "glich" power, fucking awesome, that's the power i want now lol
  • darkdigidestined  - sarah sliverman sucks
i hate sarah sliver but her character was my favorite ironically, i loved the entire movie eh opinions are like assholes everyone's got one and they're usually full of shit oh and i hate stuff like tim and eric to
  • Nova25  - Energetic young character = Annoying ? What ?
    avatar
Honestly, I really don't get it with the many people I see, here and there, that seem to systematically *hate* 'young and energetic' characters... like the 'glitch EIGHT(something like that) years old' girl...
They are in Sugar Rush ! What do people expect, seriously ? The Grim Death himself ?!
  • xxhexx00  - well what do you know
    avatar
i just found out that the Japanese name for film is called "Sugar Rush"
  • Cinnamon Scudworth

The movie exceeded my expectations; I thought it was amazing. The decision to keep the world in Sugar Rush made sense because everything had been established at that point. There was no reason to make it a shallow game-hopping movie.

And I liked Vannellope. I guess it helps this is the very first thing I've ever seen with Silverman in it, and didn't know I was automatically supposed to hate her. Stuff like "Hero's Doody" wasn't intended as a real joke; it was true to her character to like childish stuff.
  • MFGreth  - Paperman
    avatar
About the Paperman short, and the aesthetics... Disney Animation Studio actually animated the whole shrot twice. They used the modern 3D animation, like they did for Wreck It Ralph and etc, then they also classically animated the whole short (drawn, by hand), and layered them on top of one another to achieve the unique look.

I think people are getting too hung up on hating Sarah Silverman. The movie was about Ralph the whole way through, and Vanellope was supposed to grate on your nerves. "Turned into the Sarah Silverman show"? Did you guys even watch the same movie?
  • lilbird

I really like Wreck-It Ralph, I felt like it had some of the best character development I've seen. I'm not too familiar with the actors/actresses (mainly because I don't watch a lot of TV), so I never drew connections to any particular person, which was probably a good thing. It takes a lot of talent to hide a particular actor/actress behind the character.

I love the characters, especially Vanellope. She's annoying because, well, that's who she is as a nine-year-old kid. She's supposed to be the annoying, immature, little sibling, but you still love that sibling even if they get on your nerves. She grew on me, of course, not because I have little siblings myself (which I guess helped s bit), but because she did grow up a bit, and she and Ralph developed a strong bond by the end that I think is adorable. It's still about Ralph, though, we just get another character involved.

That's what I feel about the movie, anyway (as compressed so I can resist gushing for a long time). I may have gone to see the movie because it's video game-centric, but I stayed for the characters. So yeah. You're entitled to your opinion, so you thought it was okay. *shrugs* Okay then, can't complain. Still a nice movie review either way.
