Wow. What an enticing and thought-provoking comment. Clearly you are the most intelligent person on this entire website.

This was funny. Though I must object to you saying the native English are butchering the English language with the letter 'u' since, well, they DID invent the English language first. Or was that sarcasm? You're right so much of the time that I can't tell what's acting, what's sarcasm and what's incredibly literal.

America has been around for over two hundred year. In that time, both our English and Britain's has drasticly changed. They're no more right than Americans are, and the whole language was derived from a west germanic language which was derived from another one before that. People need to stop giving the English all the credit for English, that's not how language works.

We in Canada also use the letter "u" in words like colour, flavour, etc. Americans seem to use it less, though, even in simple words like "you"-- let's not forget the word "yo".

I agree with you. I don't care what others say, English was made by the English. If it wasn't then that's just plain weird. It's like the France making a language and naming it German.

Especially the part where you make fun of the Jackass that says his way is more correct than my way of saying things...
Maybe you should have put the finger in British terms so that he may better understand what a jackass he truly is.

I also see that despite the questions being closed, you still decided to answer a question that several people and I were asking. It's nice to know that you take time out of your busy schedule to answer a question like this.... Keep on reading that bible, or Narnia or whatever in "hydroglyphics".

English was made by the English.

Actually, English is made up of various parts of Latin, French and Anglo-Saxon English, the latter of which contributing shorter words (including swearwords).

"Yo" isn't actually a variation of the word "you" which is used in America. "Yo" can be used as a greeting or after a pause, the latter translating into something like "you know?"

So according to your theory, every country on Earth creates its own language the moment they become a country? What about when England was in its midevil times BEFORE English came about? Anglon Saxons had to have some kind of language.

Truth is, English, French, German, even Japanese all stem from a different language at some point in their respected history.
What about today's "english?" In England, we say "fag" when we want a cigarette. In America, we call it a cigarette. The loo vs. the toilet. The flat vs. the apartment. There's "American English" and there's "England English." There's no correct way. Especially since the English themselves developed their native tongue from German, which stemmed from Latin (actually, almost everything stemmed from Latin).

Let's look at the evolution of English.
"Wo sind Sie?"
"Où vous êtes?"
"Where for art thou?"
"Where the bloody are you?"
"Where the fuck are you!?"

Hieroglyphics are indeed the symbols of an ancient Egyptian written language. Hydroglyphics however are symbols printed in either oil or water-paint. Since That Guy was talking about what he was seeing in his book, it could very well be that the pages in his book were created with water or oil paints. So That Guy could have meant that... smilies/smiley.gif
