Status of the Site 8/1/08

Hello all,
Today should be a good day. A new Ask ThatGuy will be up along with new
reviews from The Other Guy and Film Brain, and I will be adding 2 more article
writers to the site; Storage and Disposal and Matt913. Expect to see this
new content by 10PM CST.
In the next few paragraphs I'll be going over a few things
that are going on, on this site, so bear with me, and please please read all of
this. Thanks!
New Video Content:
SpoonyOne:
I'll have a new video put up from him later today, and from
what he told me, he is working on a video review of Dirty Dancing for the PC.
I never knew that this game existed, and from the title it has to be bad, so
this review should be fun!
ThatDudeWithTheSuede:
A new series from him called AMV Heaven will be debuting
today as well, so be on the look out for it.
Benzaie:
Now this is the one that I feel the need to talk about the
most, as two people above him seem to already be accepted by most people on this
site. I like this guy's style as I find it different, and I see a lot of
potential in him. He's only been doing this video review stuff for about a
month now, so honestly... give him some time to grow. I talked to him
about a few issues the general populace on this site seem to have had with his
video, and hopefully he can slowly fix some of these problems. (Talk a little
slower, change the subtitles to english, and lower the game audio a bit)
Please people just give him a chance as we on TGWTG are. If you have an
issue with his style, him, or any other issue, please comment, but please make
it an intelligent response. Don't say stupid crap like: He Sucks!, What
Did I Watch etc etc.
Why are we at TGWTG bringing in new people?
Well for one the new content is bringing a lot of new people
to the site. Also it's giving us a variety of content, stuff that Doug
can't or won't be able to do, as he already has a hectic release schedule (NC/2
Ask That Guys/1 Bum Review a week!). I'm not just picking anyone to have
their content on this site, I'm picking people who I believe can really find a
niche and excel. When this company launches your going to see a lot of
content produced by us, that does not have Doug in it. Right now were just
trying to see who we can bring in to give us shows that we don't have the
ability to write/film/produce. As of now there are over 100
different show ideas that we are kicking around, and some are coming close to be
ready to film. If that list of 100 can grow to 105 because of new talent
that we have found, it will make this company a little more diverse.
Diversity is going to be one of the big things that we will be trying to
accomplish. Our shows are going to be ones that enter as many genres as
possible and appeal to a wide demographic. So please give these new guys a
chance if you haven't already, as it will help take a small burden of our
shoulders.
Revver Move:
Yes, most Ask ThatGuys, Nostalgia Critics, and Bum Reviews
are now being hosted on Revver. The reasons why are simple. With
Revver hosting these videos we have been able to eliminate one of our very
expensive video servers ($1400/m), thus helping us move towards profitability.
This site had it's first iteration out from December 07 - March 08, and was
relaunched in the last week of April to the version you are currently using.
Up until a month and a half ago, I myself was footing the server bills. Bhargav
(Guy in Captain Planet and the Batman Sketch) recently stepped up and paid for
that expensive dedicated video server along with the dedicated web server that
is now hosting the site. We can't continue to pay for this month in and
month out. So where does Revver help us? Well it does give us a
small but decent ammount of money each time someone views a video, and when you
combine this with adsense, you have us finally making a profit.
This profit not only will pay the now $700/month (was $2100/month) a month for the two servers, but also allows Doug to start being paid for his work; enough to allow him to now do this full time, and now he won't have to do sidework to make cash. It will also allow us to start putting money into our new productions, thus increasing the production value. We are sorry if some of you are having problems with the videos but this move was needed to give us the time needed to get some sponsors tied up for the shows.
Donation:
To all you Premium Members, I do have to apologize for not
adding any new content in the past week, but the wait will be worth it, as I
will be moving the Premium Area over to a new server, and in the process be
adding a lot more of the High Quality mp4s, along with new encodes of the ipod
video formats. You will now have complete archives of all the Specials/Ask
ThatGuys/Bum Reviews/Sketches in both formats. You will also have 1 or 2
new extras added, along with a few more Nostalgia Critics. Be on the lookout for
an email from me in the next week giving you access to this new server.
Now some have asked what does this donation money go towards,
and well I tell you now. So far the donations have paid for the trip to meet the
AVGN and film the battle, a green screen, and other needed props. They
have also helped us form the new company, along with some other small things
needed. Trust us, donating the $25 is a big help now, and will be a huge
help for future productions.
The next update will include things like a contest that we will announce (actually 2), along with possible ThatGuy DVD info.
That's all for now, thanks for reading and please comment below
