Hmmm.
I really don't know how this article is going to end, but
for the most part it's going to tell you a lot, at least about the blip move,
why it happened, and the consequences for the constant stupid comments that I
have been seeing lately. If you don't read this, and end up losing your
ability to post comments, it's your fault.
See here's the thing, this site is based on the
internet, and like most growing and fairly big sites, we attract a global
audience. Couple that with the fact that EVERY one of you has some
different computer setup via hardware/software, and some of you are BOUND to
have issues with the new video host. It's inevitable. This site gets
over 1 million visits a month now. Now when we moved to Revver we had the
exact same issues with different people complaining up a storm, and now the same
thing is happening now.
So here's the story. Revver more or less is nothing
but problems. Delayed video uploads/Freezing Uploads/Ad incorporation
delays etc etc. The videos at times can take over a day to get into the
NostalgiaCritic account. That equals issues. Payments are beyond
delayed. We won't be getting July's payments for another 3+ weeks, and who
knows when Augusts payments are going out. This site NEEDS money to run
for now. This site is paid for by Bhargav and Myself. We pay the
monthly fees out of our own pockets. This isn't some cute little hobby we
have going on right now, and this site costs a hell of a lot to run.
Which leads me to another issue.
The constant, why doesn't the admin fix this, why doesn't
he do that, he hasn't responded to my message (this went as far as someone
actually freaking messaging me on X-Box Live, saying that I needed to get his
issue fixed.) I for one did not code this site (Yes I made it, Yes I update it many times a day),but it's basically a
bunch of CMS stuff molded into a site. I do some random html/php to help
things run, but that is it. For updates to the comments/forums/blogs, I'm
at the mercy of the people who made these components. Another issue is the
fact that I unfortunately don't get paid anything from this. The money
when we get it will be going to the video makers. Anything after the
server costs goes to them. I work a full time job (read 40 hours a week),
and then put in another 50 hours a week, taking care of this site/talent
pickup/business meetings/CEO stuff etc etc etc. So that's 90 hours a week
spent working (try doing that for over a year and tell me how you feel).
I try to get stuff fixed, but geez people stop acting like since my role is
admin, that I will have your problem fixed ASAP. I will get to your issues
when I have a chance.
For all of you complaining about blip.. There are
forums for that, or you can send me a Private Message. These posts of, OMG
Blip sucks Go back to revver are done with. You clog a video comment
thread with these, and you will lose your ability to post comments. If you
have an issue do what I said above. Include information that can help me
HELP YOU. I need to know, Your internet speed/browser/computer speed +
ram/what anti virus/anti spyware programs that are running/what country your
in/what else is running when your watching the video. I NEED this info to
help you. Blip so far has been nothing short of amazing with there
support. The video quality is also 3x what was on Revver, and if we didn't
have a fairly small but sizable audience running lower than 1024x768
resolutions, we would have the videos running at a much larger resolution.
Also there are freaking REVVER LINKS below each video (they make take more than
a day to appear, due to the issues going on at revver). You have no reason
to complain, click the link, and enjoy.
Also, trolling videos telling authors that they suck,
should die, leave the site, etc etc, will also cause your comment ability to be
gone. We have a very intelligent audience here, and want it to stay that
way. If you have a problem with a person, point out your issues with the
video or person. Actually use real reason and logic as to why there is an
issue. These you suck style comments days are also over. Post a hate
comment, lose your ability to post future comments. We at TGWTG love
constructive criticism, so please explain your displeasure.
So to sum this up. Useless troll/flame comments
automatically will cause you to lose your comment ability. We're staying
with Blip, but I will have a Revver link below each video (may be a day or two
delay).

For my part, I'm very glad to say that I made my first payment as a premium member today. Anyone who hasn't should do so ASAP. You won't regret it, and it sounds like the site could use the money right now.
And last but not least, we finally have a concrete deadline for the NChick's formal arrival. Can't wait.
