Go watch all of Rinry's videos. She's a top-class reviewer.

http://www.youtube.com/ user/rinrygamegame

Started watching anime myself with Record of Lodoss Wars. GREAT show.

And one of my personal gripes with anime nowadays is that anime has too many HUGE EYES! Way too many cutesy anime nowadays.

Poor poor One Piece. Just got a bad-rap. It's a great show/story. Read the manga, everyone. DOWN WITH CELL EDITING!!!

Seek out: Robot Carnival

Eyeshield 21 is an AMAZING manga!!! Watch my upcoming Superbowl Sunday YCPT show.

And I agree with Rollo's idea of a 'gamer'. I think 'hardcore' would be closer to Joe's idea.

Sean, I know that Bayonetta will not appeal to everyone just like Okami did, but you can not call that game a Devil May Cry ripoff. Bayonetta was created and directed by Hideki Kamiya who also created the original Devil May Cry, Okami, Resident Evil 2, God Hand, and Veiwtiful Joe. Platiumin Games is the new name of Clover Leaf Studios by the way. Nothing about Bayonetta pissed me off. It was good old Sega action and it is the best Sega game I have ever played in a long time. Buying it is definitely the right way to go.

Great start for the new season. Got some comments here, let me pull out the list.

AngryJoe: If you want epic space battles and lots of stuff getting blown up, give Gurren Lagann a shot.

Sean: I'm surprised that you didn't try to mention Bible Black or something when Marzgurl was suggesting anime and stuff for adults, though it seems more funny than anything.

Games to remake: The only thing I'd really like is a port of Suikoden 2 to the psp, since it is probably either my favorite or second favorite next to Wild Arms 2.

As far as remaking a game, though, I'd just say let nostalgia sit back and remain as it is. Updated graphics and such are nice and all, but it takes away from what the older generations of gamers grew up with, and with the remakes the younger generations will have nothing to look back at to see how much games have improved over time, as well as how some games have gone down the drain.

Paw and Chris: -insert witty and snarky comment here for my laziness-

Great podcast with our blue haired Animé expert! And yes, guys this is season 4. Episode 40. Good to have Kaylyn on. Can't wait to hear Masako!

And what makes a gamer you ask? I think Joe has the right idea. I also agree there are too many people who take things WAAAY too seriously. Like the game is their life. And that's what Kaylyn's saying.

She, her roommate Andy, ChaosD1, Sheepwithblogs and I play World of Warcraft every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night. We have fun. Yet, we see these douches just trying to battle us and do crap. We're just trying to have fun ya know? But, we get a lot of flak in the livestream comments about not doing things "the right way". We still win!

Wow that One Piece bit cleared up allot. I was wondering how much and of what people who said they liked that series was smoking. Turns out they probably just didn't watch the version that was heavily raped by 4Kids.

I wonder how many people listen to the whole hour show before they get started on writing their responses.

To help with Con shooting schedules sometimes it helps if you can free up schedules to be together at least a whole day extra outside of time the Con is going on. That way you can put more filming on the non convention time.

In the future when you say you have or mention pictures from something that you were doing could you please add them into the Blip copy? Its such a painful tease hearing about them and still seeing Nothing!

30 hours = 3 day weekend or purchase. less than 16-20 hours game play Weekend Rental.

So long as you clean the contacts and the board in the cart hasn't been damaged the NES games can still run their games. Really the biggest killer of NES games are the save batteries. But they can be replaced if you have the patience and tools to get them open without breaking it.

I play games frequently but I never really play to win so I do not consider myself a Gamer. No real passion I just have allot of fun filling time with my couple hundred older Video Games.

I have to use Archive.org to even find my NES collection list any more. Too bad they didn't get the background gif that went with this slightly out of date list.
http://web.archive.org/ web/20040911115747/ hometown.aol.com/ spokavriel/ Nintendo_Games_List.html

He goes way overkill on this. He's describing a deviant that is too obsessed. Who the heck would smell a new game? That was just overboard.

There are allot of videos and pictures on the internet that can easily dispute the female ability to handle two sticks. And in the context used in this episode a guy handling two sticks is really really disturbing.

TechTV Is And always has been Better than G4 But the merger killed the spirit of both.

Glad you didn't let the few time Gaming Ninja pass on this.

I don't understand any of this sports stuff.

Robocop NES was fun for me and it had a couple arrests. It was clunky on control but if it were to be remade on current systems.

I think the original Wolfenstine games and the iD Wolfenstine 3D could be incorporated into a remake.

Isn't that translation from Dejap?

http://web.archive.org/ web/20080616205849/http:/ /www.dejap.com/

The site got its URL pulled again. ::sigh:: It happens too often.

Fun episode but as you can see there are a couple things I wish you could have added. Looking forward to the next one and maybe more Videos from Sean seeing how he doesn't get/want to talk much when there are other people around.

A couple of points:

1. Name changes and content editing have always been the norm with localizations to make anime more accessible to Western kids and conform with American broadcast standards (which are notoriously anal for kids' programming). 4Kids just has a habit of doing it very badly, often changing things that don't need to be changed.

2. Anime for adults - a good rule of thumb is to pick the ones with adult characters - Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Monster, Berserk, Mushishi, etc.

3. Is anime in decline? While everything's being licensed, the rate of releases has definitely dropped off and a lot of the smaller titles are stuck in limbo. On the Japanese side, it doesn't help that the recent flood of moe/loli has fairly limited appeal over here. On the other hand these things are usually cyclical, so things will get better eventually.

Ahhh, feels so nice to have Transmission Awesome back on the air. :cheer:

Regarding the "kiddiefication" of anime, an instance that comes to mind was about a year and a half/two years ago, I was on a major nostalgia kick for "Sailor Moon" and I came across a format of videos on YouTube called "dubtitles". How it worked was that the poster uploaded specific episodes of the original Japanese version and the English dub version were played simultaneously, side-by-side with the subtitles from the Japanese version played against English dub audio. The "dub" side would occasionaly pause to show a scene or detail from the "sub" version that was completely cut out. It was stunning to see how vastly different the original show was from the North American adaptation in terms of scripting, plot, characterization and all. The whole 4Kids discussion reminded me of that discovery. I mean, I had heard plenty about the crazy ways they'd cut and splice anime but completely changing the race of a character?! Wow.

Just me or does anyone want to see Angry Joe face off against Tarzan in a call-off? :P

I hate it when people talk about censorship from Japan to English, because I'm American, and hearing that the Japanese version is more true to the story means that me, the American viewer, cannot see this because very few are on any video sharing site AND with subtitles (because I'm not going to learn Japanese to watch a television show) and I also can't watch Japanese television on my television or get the money to buy Japanese shows on DVD with English subtitles. Plus, when I watch these shows, I usually just like to listen to the Dialogue, and I can't do that with subtitled shows. It also makes me feel stupid that I can't understand it. Oh, the American stereotype of uncertainty... Plus, I love manga... and One Piece... Gee... It's censored even in the manga! It just pisses me off.

EDIT: I love the original Pokemon series in English. There were some adult themes if you look real hard.

Also, I recommend Pokemon Manga.

EDIT #2: Are there any GOOD dubs that other people have done of these... independent or not? I would love to know.

Paw's Prefix of your name, "efficacious" means: having the power to produce a desired effect.
Ex: Chris's fat jokes are efficacious on Sean in which he receives a response of foul language and denial.
Also how come it takes forever for a new episode to be posted on the site I saw this almost a week ago on blip.tv?

Cartoons outside of anime now a days are RETARDED.

4KIDS IS OF THE DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!! THE DEVIL
They think that kids are retarded and can't handle the most basic shit.

Perfect Blue is sooo much a mind fuck.

I can't wait to see the next grad group meet to see LK rub that in on Spoony.

Yeah Chris i remember that. I agree with Chris and Sean, and I'm probably Paw's definition of a casual gamer. OH and Joe how'd your Cowboys do today, hmmmm. Sorry 4 your loss Chris. Hey u did better than my Browns.

PAW put Rex Nebular up. Spoony fans demand it!!!

Nice episode. It was cool to hear from Marz, though I was a little upset you guys spent most of the time talking about how 4kids sucks. Not cause it doesn't(it most certainly does), but I feel the issue has kinda been beaten to death and really just needed a small summary on how it sucks.

Also, about what a gamer is, I'm a little peeved by you guys talking about competitive gamers. I have a buddy who plays brawl competitively, and he still has a lot of fun with it. He's really good, but will of course fool around by playing with items and whatnot if he and his friends want to. I'm just trying to say not all competitive players are jerks about what they play or whatever. Though, that doesn't mean he'll go easy on people.

Also, as for what a gamer is, I agree it is a passion, but I don't feel it has to be at the extent Joe described. Even if you just play stuff like Halo or Modern Warfare, if you play them passionately and not just as the stereotyped fratboy does, then yes you too can be a gamer. You don't always have to get tons of games or whatever. I have a friend who I consider a gamer and all she plays is Pokemon. But, she is very passionate about it, and looks up different ways to do things or get certain personalities of Pokemon and what have you.

Hmm? If I could remake or requel any game, First I'll start with remake.

As we all know, nintendo's most critically acclaimed Sci-fi side scroller seres would the one and Awsome Metroid. What I don't get is they've remade Metroid 1 into Metroid: Zero Mission, but why can't they do the same with Metroid II: Return of Samus? That game is more or less a dull game with being just a side story to the series and not anywhere being as spectacular as it's true sequel, Super Metroid. This game is also the reason why Samus has Really big round shoulder pads, since the first metroid for NES had color changing for whenever you aquired a different suit or weapon. They couldn't do that on Metroid II since it was on Gameboy.

I would update the graphics, add more mission objectives, more enemies to kill besides metroids, and probably fix the flaw of having to substitute different weapons for another.

Requel
NOW, If had to make an alternate sequel to a game, I would create a true spiritual successor to Jak and Daxter:TPL. In my honest opinion, this series just went downhill in terms of it's quality in its gaming and storyline. I mean We started out with a fun fantasty free roam platformer, and then we end up with a hacked up GTA clone with gameplay and storyline more fitted for Ratchet & Clank. How can you introduce such a brilliantly elaborate concept for a game, and then go completely drastic from the original envisioned premise. They also implied at the possibility that the villains at the end the first game would return from their imprisoned hiding place aka "The Dark Eco Silos." But no, we never see or here from them again.

I would continue the original storyline by somehow bringing back the villains Gol and Maya, as well as the traditional style of gameplay from the first where Jak channels different types of Eco, but maybe provide some new techniques with the different colors of Eco. Such as different power levels for say red Eco which the bigger the level the more fighting techniques Jak can unlock, since Red Eco has the power of super strength.

I would also figure out more opportunities in the game where you can play as Daxter in some levels, kinda like how some levels in R&C you can play as clank with his own abilities. I could also probably have Daxter channel Eco somehow, perhaps in his own style.

Hi guys! The anime discussion was interesting. I used to be a huge anime fan myself, but you're right; I realized a few months ago that I may have outgrown anime, which is sad; I really love the stories they weave, but everything is geared toward children and teens, which was fine when I was a teen, but now I want something aimed toward my age group. Satoshi Kon is an amazing director; Paranoia Agent is one of my all-time favorite anime.

As far as MAGFest goes, I loved the panel! Now that I think about it, I think I saw Dr. Gonzo at one of the concerts Saturday night. I'm sorry for my friend's constant interruptions. Yes, I'm the one who came to the room to get a picture with the hat and I have the picture to prove it. It was great to meet all of you. And yes, it was loads of fun. I hope you all come back to another con in the mid-Atlantic area.

As far as what a gamer is, I agree with Joe when he said gamers are people who have passion about games they play. While I play a lot of turn-based RPGs and platformers, my favorite game is The Sims 2. Most people say that The Sims series is a casual game, but I have spent, between September 2007 and now, many an afternoon and well into the night playing The Sims 2. The point Marzgurl pulled up is very good. I love the Mortal Kombat series, and I suck at fighting games too.
