You hit the nail on the head, Bennett. I don't dislike reading, I just don't know of anything I like or think I would like. If you ever put a draft out there, I would love to read it.
1000 Rockband songs for charity? Wow. Good luck to them.
Paw, you've got to start standing up for yourself!! Well, if you can still stand up... (J/K, please don't hurt me.)

I think ya guys took the fat jokes a lil too far this time. Normally it seems like good natured teasin (hell, my friends and I are like that) but it seemed a lil more like bullying this time.
Other than that, still a great podcast, lookin forward to the live donation drive :D
And whoever said Nintendo is the best company ever...yeah, no. In the 80s and 90s, maybe. Now, no

First off, thanks for the awesome blog Joe (though I didn't film the closing ceremonies. No worries, numerous other people on YouTube did.)
Second, Nintendo is only part-perception and part-reality. The perception of Nintendo is largely centered around the Wii and to a lesser degree the DS, but the reality is they also have all the toys, card games, and other company involvements (e.g. majority ownership of the Seattle Mariners)
On the same token, the perception is the Wii has no games, no momentum, and isn't selling at all. There is some validity to that in that the sales for the Wii have fallen each of the last eight months. At the same time the PS3's sales are growing. The reality is this: the initial sales from the Wii were so high they had nowhere to go but down, and to say that they've fallen steadily since is like saying Sean is fat. (Sorry, I blame the Sage for that one)
For example, here are the sales figures according to a US NPD market research group of consoles and handhelds over the last month globally (source, PC World):
507k - Wii
458k - Nintendo DS
321k - PlayStation 3
250k - Xbox 360
175k - PSP
118k - PlayStation 2
And as far as being ranked higher than Apple and Google, the only thing I can think of would be that Nintendo does much better than them at selling internationally.
Perception and reality, guys.

Okay. So I'll agree that the reasoning of "Nintendo has a clear path for the future" is odd. Nintendo has ALWAYS been secretive about future plans until they're ready to be announced. Even then, they tend to delay things a bunch of times. So yeah, that part was pretty much wrong.
However, you guys seemed to focus on that subject EXCLUSIVELY. What about the past? Nintendo as a company has been around for more than 100 years. They have evolved to what they are now. They've had downtimes, sure. The Gamecube era is testament to that. But how does a company stay in business for over 100 years? By being profitable. Nintendo has had *1* unprofitable fiscal period in the last 20 years or so. You know how many Microsoft has had on the video game front? All of them. While their margins on the 360 are improving, Microsoft has lost money on both Xbox consoles from day 1. I'm not saying it impacts the company as a whole terribly much; it's Microsoft, they could buy the businesses that report those statistics (and then install Vista, so they wouldn't be able to compute them). But the fact remains that Nintendo has, with VERY rare exceptions, always been profitable. Sure, sales of the Wii have gone down. They're still making money on every console sold, and while this argument can't be used to excuse software sales, it IS possible that everyone who wants a Wii is finally getting one. Sales can't remain on an upward trend indefinitely, it's mathematically impossible.

11.19.2009 - 09:53 | NorthNightwatchmanJRI really don't think it is fair to refer to Nintendo as the same company we know today before 1975 when they first entered the video game industry.

Thanks for the nod, Paw. But yeah, if it was just the 4 of us playing 1000 songs straight, that would be more like a suicide pact than a charity drive.
There'll be 6 of us rotating in and out all weekend. Maybe we'll grab another friend or two to help out on a couple of songs. Depends if my wife wants to be on camera...
Anyway, great podcast again guys!

Great podcast, nice to hear some stuff about what Bennet is doing.
Though I must say, Bennets story at the end made me think he inspired some insane fan-fics, a desperate attempt to get more material for Fanfic Theatre? Or was he really hitting on Paw :P
Can't wait for Rollo T to do a Christmas related? A Christmas Carol perhaps?
Anyway, great podcast as always.
EDIT:
Oh yeah, and the Rock Band guys, MAJOR props! That's amazing.

Hopefully if you guys make it to Detroit again next year I'll be employed and have money to actually attend Youmacon.
Which casino did you and Linkara hit, Joe? MGM Grand, Greektown or Motor City? We opened up legal gambling years ago and sadly it hasn't boosted the city's income as much as was hoped.

...What do you think Spine Breakers is about silly? :P We give you a small taste of books we read and let you know who might like the book in question. Also if you ask a good Liberian things that you like they can generally point you in a good direction on where to start.

Bennett, I'm really looking forward to seeing your comic. I'm curious to see what your imagination comes up with. We need good honest comic writers here. I know Linkara's one and you've got one coming and so does Dena IIRC.
Looking forward to the live event and as always the Wiki team WILL cover it. =D
Expect my donation!

05.07.2010 - 11:44 | Rock GolemHave I mentioned yet that I think Nintendo is the best company on earth because unlike SOME COMPANIES
....MICROSOFT!They don't treat their costumers like objects to be used and nothing else. And google?I guess I'm not that well informed but, why would Google be the best?Cause their the biggest?Googles alright I guess, I've no qualms with them, but they've never really wow'd me either.
