Ha, this was posted while I was listening to the last one. Yay for more Transmission Awesome to get me through my boring homework.
Lord Kat either sounds like Milo Ventimiglia or Christian Bale.

Yeah...the idea of the TGWTG guys and gals doing the Caramelldansen because there are many versions of it from Pokemon to Hitler and his SS officers. I am not kidding...
Nice podcast guys and thanks for bringing in LordKat. I get frustrated easily with games, especially with platform games. While watching you videos, it makes me go back to those days. Very Nostalgic. Just keep your sanity and your soul intact and keep playing those games.
And umm....I hope you recover from your berserk episode. Now to my opinion on are Video Games Art. Well, I have to go with yes on that, because of what it takes to make a video game. It takes concept artists, character designers, illustrators, etc to provide the environment, background, characters, whatever else that game needs. To back that up, it needs a good story or some type of foundation to make the game work and then there comes developing and programming the game and how the game should be played AND don't forget the music written by a chosen composer and the proper musicians who are skilled enough to play it with such majesty. Of course this varies on which game you are talking about. A good example for a game to be considered as art which is the series you brought up, Silent Hill. I know the game play appeared boring and the voice actors were terrible, but they were somewhat passable. However, getting into the meat of it of how it was made, you gain more appreciation about it...especially about Silent Hill 2 with the complexity of the characters, how they were designed, the heavy symbolism and other things. You just have to pay attention to these small details. Another good example can be games from Team Ico, such as Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and the Last Guardian which is going to be on the PS3. I only played Shadow of the Colossus and I was both blown away by the gameplay, music, design of the colossi, and the rich environments. The designs of the colossi are great and high intricate. The gameplay was something different, but it was both fun and you can say challenging and there is also the story, which you slowly learn in the game. My last example of a game that can be considered is art is XIII on the PS2. It was something new and they took a risk on it. The style and the game play was both creative and fun. Instead of taking a realistic approach, they stayed true to the source material which I recall is from a French comic book? I am actually not sure, but I think the source material was indeed from a comic book and took that and make it into a video game. It's a wonderful first person shooter and I say check it out. However, these are only my opinions on what I consider art and art is something that depends on the person. There is no right or wrong answer about art and yes art can be considered everything...which I find a problem in like a big red spot in the middle of blank rectangular space is art as same as a painting made by Courbet. Okay it is a harsh comparison, but hopefully you know where I am getting at.
So yeah those are my thoughts on that subject. I am looking forward to upcoming podcasts. Keep up the good work.

Truthfully, Parafernalia has a better list and I appreciate you list. You made little arguments that are clear and right to the point But for me I list would not get past the Final Fantasy stage because I never saw anything but a story. But then again I don't like turn based RPG's, they always pissed me off one way or another and level grinding in a lot of them takes so. I never saw the appeal in WoW either because it would be job that instead of me getting money for I have to pay. I do admit level grinding can be fun but only when it is presented or can be done in a fun way. And besides people where are the EA Madden football games, they are complete shit to me.
Video games can be art but then again it all depends on your view of art. Art can be viewed in so many ways that what you consider art may not be art to me. A great example is this man put a blank canvas in a art show and considered it art, but I did not. He argued you can look at it and see what you want to see, I argued you were lazy and wanted your money very quickly. There is a piece of "music" that is a just an appointed time that is nothing but silence. The composer was very big in the atonal scene and decided to pass a piece off of the plank canvas dudes work. Again not art to me but what ever. You can find recordings of this song and sheet music that you have to pay for, why I don't know because lets face it just sit in a room and don't talk and you got it.Ok now for my rant, SUPER MARIO WORLD GO DIE IN A WHOLE ARNGRIMITE! YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT GAME DID FOR THAT ERA SO GO FIND A WHOLE, OR DIG ONE! EAT SHIT AND DIE (maybe not in that order but do it)! I WON"T TALK ABOUT THE FACT YOU DISSED ONE OUT OF THE TWO GOOD 3D SONIC GAMES EVER! Other than that there is one more and that was some one said Megaman but I'm too tired to care right now, so go fuck yourself and die in the same hole as Arngrimite. I apologize for the caps but yeah I was angry.

Wow, whoever thought Final Fantasy 8 was over-rated has never played it. He's lucky Spoony wasn't the guest or we'd never hear the end of it.
And no power-ups, are you high? I've never been a big racing fan, but the whole style is supposed to be realistic racing, OFCOURSE there are no power-ups! This isn't Mario Kart, muthafucker!
I will concede that Gears of War is over-rated, though. When I played it, it was one gray grimy street after another, the final boss had no build-up and just was just another boomer with a different gun.
As for the discussion of games being art, I think you all missed something important, and that is the role of interaction. You all talked about story and voice-acting, and those are all fine points, but those same elements are common in novels, comics, films, and even song ever once in a while. The real essence of a distinctive art medium is what seperates it from others. You can take one single story and express it differently in a novel and a film. One can provide a detailed format for the story, and the other can provide visuals and see the acting of real people.
And it is in this regard that gaming stands alone in one particular role...the interactive protaganist. We can read what the protaganist is doing, and we can see a protagnist doing things in film. But it is quite different to actually BE the protaganist, to walk through a land, to look around a room. Bioshock is a great example of this. It's one thing to watch an actor walk through some metal hallways. But in the game, we look around the room. We get snuck up on, instead of watching someone getting snuck up on. When we are in an elevator watching a short film, we have the option to look away but we don't. And at the very end when we lose control of our body, when he forces us to sit, to stand, to walk anywhere he commands, it has a far greater impact than simply watching an actor do these things.
This is particularly noteworthy in horror games. Watching videos of someone playing a horror game isn't the same as actually walking through those dark hallways wondering what is going to happen next. Being forced to run away and defend yourself with a pipe.
In that regard, videogames are most-certainly an artform.

Oh yea, try out the peanut butter and onion sandwich from Fred Savage's "Little Monsters". That should be quite tame and also fulfill your requirements for the Bad movie foods. Although you COULD do the bottle of Howie Mandel's piss disguised as apple juice from the same movie, but that could be a bit hard to find.
P.S. Wow really? Super Mario World? I'll hold him down for you Lordkat.

Poor LordKaT, I guess my voice sample didn't help much to pronounce my name, ha ha! Well, you said the first name fine enough so I'm not disappointed. Actually, I think I would be if you had delivered it perfectly. That would be very rude indeed!
Never the less, thanks for choosing my video to Awesome blog of the week !

Any dang way, I can some up LordKaT's appearance on the podcast in one word. Genius. Simply genius. Give this guy a medal! Give him a trophy!
What I'm saying is that the podcast was simply fantastic!
I dunno if I have a list of overrated games. I'd have to think on it. Good work, guys!
Edit: Now that I've heard Garrymon, I've got the song stuck in my head!

LordKat, Sidequests, RPGs
I nominate Unlimited Saga. I don't want you to win every chapter (seven), just one of them. I am currently playing Laura's quest. I am averaging two hours of saved play for every one hour of play lost due to total party kill. The game just does not make any sense at all. Unlike older Saga games like Saga Frontier 1 and 2 which are actually playable, this one has LP loss even if you still have HP and sometimes you'll have no HP and take a hit and lose no LP, beyond all logic. This may be the second CD I break in half, the first being Master of Monsters: Illusion of Gaia, where I got to the final boss on Mission 24 only to be defeated by an insanely low hit rate (10-15%) against the last boss combined with the last boss regeneration of 150 HP per round dooming me.

With the games on that list you really can't blame him, when Gran Turismo was mentioned because of it's lack of fucking powerups, I thought I was gonna die laughing! The Halo games are overrated though, I'll give him that...

Wow, guys. Thanks for the mention - we're glad we literally made you LOL.
On an unrealted note, I enjoy your podcasts - they're always amusing and it's great to hear a little more background on the guys that make up TGWTG. Keep up the "awesome" work!

Loved that video man. My biggest disappointment was that I totally forget to mention that you made a LOST reference in that episode! UGH! I wanted to pull my hair out when I forgot, but I didn't because then I'd be all bald like Benzaie.

I agree, the original Metriod is very overrated. The boss fights are completely broken and its almost impossible to know where everything is without a guide. Also, the first legend of Zelda is fun, but vastly overrated, as the amount of memorization required is ridiculous and you still wouldn't know where half the stuff is without a guide
(by the way, this comment refuses to be posted, so the internet itself disagrees with me)
