Please make more videos for watching pleasure :D

  • The sad panda

I thought that joe and paw missing last week was due to a snicker bar incident,I'm confused.

Awesome podcast guys, full of really funny moments.

  • Psychokiller

This podcast was very nice, but I have to ask, why is ThatChickWithTheGoggles trying to copy Brentalfloss.
In case you didn't know, Brentalfloss is a person on Screwattack.com who adds lyrics to songs from various video games which sounds like Goggle's new "Gamescores" project.
I don't know why she feels the need to copy other people, but I don't like it

  • GodOfPlague

    I've missed Krissy too.
Good to hear Goggles is coming back!

  • hazzaboner

Linkara can sing too, but he didn't sing his own song...
Actually, why doesn't the Nostalgia Critic have a theme song yet?
Anyway, dag, man, I love Goggles. I'm so psyched to see her come back.
In my opinion, she should make videos of whatever the dang she wants.

  • Blue  - which was sadder?

Deep impact. The wife of the guy who turned blind just had his baby who he never got to see grow up. that is some sad sad teary eye stuff right there.

    Blue out

  • Psychokiller

Also, I disagree with Joe's thing about Review score decimals, because what if you play a game and you think it's better than a 8, but it's not quite a 9, that's where decimal points come in and yes, I think people should give scores as that sums up your opinion in a nice easy-to-understand number

The funny thing is, the way Joe was bashing IGN, they actually agreed with him when it came to King of Fighters 12 as they gave it a 6 as well.

Just in case, here is what they consider a 6:
Games in this range have more faults than strengths, but still might be worth a look if you're into genres of its type. Other games are polite to the sixes, but they don't get invited to any of the parties. Rent these games or download the demo first before spending your hard-earned money on it.

It's not too different from Joe's definition of a 6

  • AngryJoeShow

    First off,
Do you refuse to watch Jay Leno, Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Falon, Craig Ferg, or maybe you refuse to watch The Daily Show or Colbert report. All of those shows are "copying" ideas that came before it if you want to get technical. In you'd be hard pressed to find something that wasnt inspired from something else. Get over yourself and your kindergarden viewpoint that because someone did something first, NO ONE is allowed to do anything remotely like it.

This website wouldnt exist - think about it. What about dougs lyrics to songs that dont have any?

    You Fail.

    Second,
Review scores with decimals are a terrible way to compare games. They are sufficient to describe how good a single game is but dont do so well when you try to compare a number to another number. There are so many factors involved. XBLA vs full retail, Genre vs completely different genre.

Throw in decimals and your just getting ridiculous.

You want to quantify games in decimal points, no problem.
But you will find that all that does for the site that your reading it from is allow them to issue higher scores and then have those generally higher scores (to please advertisers) compete against each other on a small "made-up" decimal point scale.
Oh this game is a .3, but this game is a .7 so they both dont suck (please dont cancel your ads with us), but one is still better than the other (to act as if they are providing the gamer a service).

Did I say IGN get all their reviews wrong? Wtf.

Nor did I say that their definition of a 6 was messed up. What the hell world are you living in and who are you arguing against? I didnt make any of those points.

I simply said that decimals are stupid and superficial, they take it a step too far and encourage people like yourself to compare games that shouldnt be compared. 8.1 vs. 8.3 then surely the 8.3 is better right? Pfftt.

At the end of the day they are both 8's and either one is going to likely give you the same enjoyment, that is if you even agree with the review author.

i hope you reconsider your foolish views on both "copying things" and "decimal points help people".

  • Manic Monkey

Accutally your wrong about Jimmy Falon Joe. His late night talk show was the first to revolve around the idea of being unfunny.

    Anyway welcome back Goggles. :)

  • Mikon

Joe, you're awesome. Just wanted to get that out of the way.

My only gripe about numerical scores is that people try to say "all 7s are equally good games, but this game that got a 7 is way better than this other game that got a 7, so obviously you suck." If those people pulled their heads out of their asses, numerical scores would work fine, and they wouldn't even need to consider decimals, which is an attempt to please advertisers (as you said) and defeat the "these games got the same scores but one game really sucks" people.

  • maxmordon

The first one I ever hear and it's awesome indeed.

  • Cferra

Joe, truer words have never been spoken. You have a point with review scores and the like. They're really confusing for some. I have this game for the GCN called Chibi Robo! IGN game it an 8.2 I believe. Why not call it an 8? I don't get it. If I see something I like, I'll buy it. It's hard to find trustworthy reviewers out there. Aside from you, Joe!

The way some people grade stuff confuses me even on GameFAQs. Then again, I'm not sure if it's biased or what. Some Nintendo stuff, maybe since I see reviews of things where someone says "Pokémon Platinum gets a 7.8 because you can't go to any regions other than Sinnoh."

It's hard to put multiple regions in a game for the DS. That's why Pokemon gens three and four take place in one region each. When people went to Kanto (The region from Red, Blue and Yellow) in the Gen 2 games, the Kanto region was nerfed considerably. But, that might change when the remakes of Gold and Silver come out. I hope.

I do agree with your assessment, Joe. Sorry for getting a little off topic. People also need to realize that anyone can review anything. There's no set thing people can review. Or make a show of. It's like making superheroes. You can have a speedster like The Flash in a team. You just need to execute it a little differently.

Anyway, Goggles gets my support because I know what it's like to have severe compy issues. If I could, I'd mail you some food. Or something. Maybe everyone should band together on this and help her out. We're a community and we should act like it when one of our friends needs us.

As always, I'm looking forward to what you make. Looking forward to the Pokemon quickie. That should be awesome.

  • MikeJ

Having decimal points in reviews is just the same of rating it out of 100. If you rate a game 7.8 out of 10, its like you're giving it 78 out of 100, so it makes a little more sense if you look at it like that. in my opinion.

Also, its awesome that eric powers vid made awesome blog. Awesome!

  • Cferra

Curse you and your logic, Mike. =P

  • ericpowerup

Haha! You do make a point MIke! What did you go to school or something? :D

Also, Thanks to Angry Joe for the shout out on The Life of Gamers!
    School is in session.

  • Rollo T

My problem though, is that you should never have to have a score with that much of a scale. Movie reviews are out of four stars. Restaurants will be graded out of an average letter grade or another four star scale. No one besides teachers will ever grade something on such a large scale. That's no need. In my opinion, having these large scores hurts gaming on a hole because it forces us to unnecessarily rate games on a score I find arbitrary to begin with.

To me, X-Play has the best scoring system with a five star scale. If it's one star, the game is garbage. Don't play it. If it's two stars, the game was bad, but it had some good points to it. If it's three stars, it's average. Fans of the series will enjoy it, but you should rent it. Four is a good game, but it might not necessarily be for everyone. A five is an excellent game they say you should own.

It's short, simple, and let's me know what their thoughts on the game are.

  • KingofKobolds

The real problem is when you have people doing both 7/10 and 3/5 and you go to a website that compiles them all and suddenly 70% mashes with 60%. I wouldn't mind the 7 is an average scale as long as everyone did that, but the very fact that there is something to argue over shows how screwed up the system is, I personally think reviews are better with no score because then you decide if its good based on the points the reviewer brings up, so you don't have to go watch all their videos to try to get a grasp on how they rate things, then compare your it to your own scale, and end up looking at a score and say, "So Joe thinks its a 6, that's a 8 in my book, which is gamespot's..." and so on.

  • Noll_UK

    Cferra, its BRITISH logic :P

  • Psychokiller

Maybe I jumped to conclusions on the whole copying people thing, but there's a difference between being "inspired" by something and flat out copying something, which is what it sounds like Kristina is going to do with her "Gamescores" thing.

It's like if I made a review show called "AskThatManWithTheSpectacles" where I answered questions with crazy answers. It'd pretty much be a copy of Doug's work as would Kristina's new "gamescores" thing.

Also, Doug's thing where he adds lyrics to TV SHOWS is different as it takes a premise and changes it to fit Tv shows.

"Gamescores" just sounds like a EXACT COPY of Brentalfloss's work.

    On to the Decimal thing.

First off, the notion that honorable review sites like IGN and Gametrailers would give games higher scores then they thought they deserved just to please advertisers is just, in your words, "foolish".

Decimals help make things a little more specific than a simple 7 or a 8 could do.

What if you played a game and you thought it was better than an 8, but you don't think it deserves a 9, so what do you do? You bust out decimal points and what do you know, you can give a score higher than a 8, but lower than a 9.
So yes, decimals are useful as they give a more specific number on what you thought of the game.

Finally, Joe, calm down a bit. I was just stating my opinion.

  • AngryJoeShow

    Good points.
Im glad you defended your position so well, I still think you are incorrect on decimals.

If its an 8 and you dont think it deserves a 9, then its AN 8, there no need to go .whatever

    Also,
Did you just ask me to calm down? LoL. Do you know who I am? I cant calm down, I'd love to but I just cant. So if it seems like im yelling at you im not, im yelling at your position. Bros? B)

  • Psychokiller

I suppose, although when I first read your reply I was like " JESUS, Joe's PISSED". I thought you were gonna bust through my window and punch my face in.
I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree on the whole "decimals or not" thing.

About Kristina's "Gamescore" project, if she can do something to make it different and unique from Brentalfloss's work, then I'll happily watch it.
Also, maybe she didn't know about him and thought up the idea.
If that was the case, then I do apologize to Kristina for calling her a "copycat"

  • ericpowerup

Either way it'll be nice to hear some female vocals don't ya think? That is certainly different enough for me.
It is extremely difficult to come up with an entirely new idea... it can be argued that NO idea is completely original since all we know in our lives is from our experience (what we've seen, heard, etc..). That means anything we create is based on our experiences. It all comes from somewhere.

  • Omgarrett

What was the pretty song that started at 5:53 with the violins? It was so pretteh!

    Also awesome podcast! :3

  • aceawes0me  - Who's #1?

ok....all this talk about King of Fighters is making me bring out this argument that my cousin and I had......#1 fighter in the USA........Ken Masters or Terry Bogard?......I personally say Ken.....but I'm very biased :D .....so what's everyone's thoughts?

  • Crapfreds

Hurray, can't wait to see more of Krissy! :cheer: We have missed you goggles! More game scores!! :woohoo:

  • Kazekawa

*le gasp* KRISSY! *runs around in circles of happiness* We miss you on here!

  • GodOfPlague

I think my favorite fighting ame is dead or alive2 or 3 lots of fun in that series

  • SpiderSlayr

Glad that you're back, Krissy! I can't wait to see more or your videos and I really hope that you do the "Game Scores" project. :cheer:

  • Sopa

Rhythm Heaven is an awesome game! I'd absolutely love Chrissy's take on it :woohoo:!

  • Starsky

    OWW OWWWW~~ HOOOOOOOO~
    *cough*

Krissy, you lovely, lovely flower. We missed you, but I'm glad to hear all is well! You have my support, and I hope you get some motivation to make videos again in the near future. I can try and send you some ramen.

About rating systems, I don't prefer them because more often than not, they tend to be biased and uneven. The 'Anything lower than a 7 is crap' bit is so true. Likewise, I still like many reviewers who use scores, and many who don't.

    My sad movie is Marley and Me. And as someone who cries at everything else in life, I don't cry as movies. Except for that one. I suppose my favorite movie moment would have to be the running scene from Forrest Gump. XD;

Annnnnnyway, stay golden, guys. Listening to this podcast makes my life just a teeeeeny bit greater. :'D

  • b9bomber

I like scores. If the score is reliable it helps you compare games and collects your thoughts on how the game was overall.

There has to be a purpose behind the score though since just throwing out a random number after the review is pointless. Breaking down the score to show where it lost points lets the reader know what you think is important in a game and so they can understand better why you gave it that score.

Kind of like the way IGN does it but without that final X.X/10 (not an average) bullshit. It hides the weight that each score above it had on the final score and makes it difficult to see where it lost points.

I like to do it this way:

    Story/Premise: XX/20
    Gameplay: XX/40
    Presentation: XX/20
    Replay Value: XX/20
    Total: XX/100

So people can see where it lost points and if someone didn't care about replay value, for example, they just ignore that part of the breakdown completely.

Sorry about the rant. Game review scores are a sore point with me as well.

  • TheDramaticMonarch

Krissy, I know all too well the pain of losing everything you had ever completed and projects you were tackling thanks to a horrendous virus. The upcoming Quickies sound super fun because they always make me want to try the games out afterwards. I'm wishing you the best of luck on your future endeavours and it's not so much a "disappearance" from your work as long as ideas keep flowing, which they seem to be. ;)

Besides, this site could always use more chick power! :D

Speaking of chicks, here's a memo to you guys: admitting to getting even remotely misty-eyed over certain media (film, songs, shows, books etc.) makes us dig you just a little more than we already do. ;)

Love that MUFASA!! had a brief return...but I still think that scene has nothing on Littlefoot's mom. *sniffle* Just my opinion.

As always, never stop bringing the laughs and smiles with Trans"fish"ion Awesome!

  • Mattevansc3

I used to do reviews for a site that had decimals and ended up just making up the score for the decimal point.

I personally blame the readers for the whole 7 is average score issue. I tried reviewing games with a 5 as the average score and gave Baten Kaitos a 4/10 (Think of everything spoony said was wrong with FF8 and then add more crap)and people were acting like I called it the worst game ever decrying my reveiw as being overly harsh, etc (though that didn't compare to the time I gave a game 0/10...so many flames).

Readers are so instilled in this 7 as average and less than 8 is awful mindset that its very hard for sites to move away from.

  • Deimos1984rd

Glad to see Goggles again, I missed her.
I do admit I too cried at the Armageddon scene when Bruce sacrificed himself, it was like seeing my hero John Mclane die.
As for Babylon 5, I agree with Joe Babylon 5 was fucking awesome anyone who didn't know what it was that's blasphemy...MADNESS!! :P . By the way I think the review scores could be better without the decimals you know, just go with 9/10 and not 9.6/10 (IGN) to me it makes sense.
