Some recomendations:
Authors
Neil Gaiman - The author beyond "Sendman", "American Gods", "Neverwere" and many more. His works ussualy take place in a "our world", if gods wizards and monsters were roaming it, somethimes hidden in the darker corners of our world other times in plain sight. I honestly recomand EVERY book he wrote (thogh some of his short stories can be a hit or miss).
Robin Hobb(Margaret Astrid Lindholm Ogden) - a more traditional fantasy writer. known for "The Farseer trilogy","The LiveShip trilogy" and "The Tawny Man Trilogy". all three series take place in the same world.
Series:
"The Death Gate Cycle" - by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. as far as "popcorn" books go, this one is awsome, it's a story about a race of powerfull wisard who were imprisond on a maze world and escaped, only to find that the onse who imprisond them disapeard and left the four worlds they created in a desolate dark age.
I feel for you about the Beast Machines. I loved Beast Wars and moved right into Beast Machines only to have it fall apart before my eyes. And Kiss Players? What is th- OH GOD MY EYES!

Wuzzat? Eureka and Twilight Zone? Agreed both are great. I remember watching marathons of Twilight Zone on new years. Have you ever watched Kolchak: The Night Stalker? That was a good series. Really interesting paranormal enemies and solutions to their defeat.
