On 3D films: I think it is possible to use the technology to an advantage, but I haven't seen that until now, really.
More so, it is rather used as a cash in - especially when you look at the 3D re-releases: Star Wars (which looks really weak), Titanic, and surely more to come....

fOr where I live (Arkansas) for the three of us to go to a movie(me, my mom and dad which have senior discounts, I don't) it roughly $30-$35, not counting popcorn and food, at matinee showings! I really hope this dies out that the main reasons why I don't go movie theaters is just cheaper it for DVD or Blu-ray! L, I'll even go with Netflix it's cheaper, they stop with the whole description yet, you must use it! work like comic books that would be totally different, where are you still can pick it up at any time and watch it read it! Then I can see it making sense.
I think I got sidetracked him how this all leads of money but yeah, and the main reason why haven't gotten a DS is because I don't care for it, getting it in 3-D is not going to make me wanted more! I want pit rising on the Wii or wii u not on the 3-d DS! Big-screen better for me!
Unless the game is really long enough for its work being travel size(like it will literally take you four days to complete it, if you play it nonstop) . That's when I say it makes sense!

I do agree that 3D is nothing more than a gimmick but I do believe that it can work well with certain films, mostly animated films. I say this because the first time the 3D added anything to the film for me was when I saw Tangled in 3D. There it felt as though I was actually in that world and during the song, "When I see The Light" it felt as though you reach out and grab the lights. Now I have also seen both The Lion King and Beauty and The Beast in 3D. More for the fact that I wanted to see these Disney films on the big screen and while the 3D was okay at best with The Lion King, it was wonderful on Beauty and The Beast. Especially during the ballroom scene because again there it felt as though you were in the ballroom. Majority of live action film I've seen 3D have been a waste, the biggest offender of this would have to be Thor because while a good movie, the 3D added nothing to the film and when I saw Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland in 3D, I left the theater with a headache. This was a great topic and I look forward to next week's discussion.

02.24.2012 - 12:36 | Fear MageWith the clear 3D glasses, and I may be mistaken, but I think it's to do with the colors, as I seem to remember certain colors always being further away with the glasses than other.
As per my opinion on 3D: I will not buy a ticket to a movie that was not actually filmed in 3D. I don't care how good the conversion is, unless it was filmed with the camera with two lenses, then I'm not there. I will do the research, and I will drive to a theater further away if it means I don't have to see a post-converted-3D movie in 3D. I feel if Hollywood doesn't get money for post-converted 3D movies, then eventually they'll stop doing it... and yes, I know of the flaw in that logic :-D
That said, computer-animated movies are another story. All it takes to make a computer-animated movie 3D is for another virtual camera to be "created" along side the first, which is itself virtual also. My opinion on these is that I search the internet for if it's worth seeing in 3D. Like with Toy Story 3, I heard it was good in 3D, but you're not missing out by seeing it in 2D, so I saw it in 2D.
Good episode guys!!!

02.25.2012 - 02:00 | DMaster...Dr. Gonzo...you are now the funniest person on the site. Top 5, minimum.
Brian: at some point, you should point out that Mr. Liefeld won the rights for royalties on Deadpool; HE, of all people, is somehow able to take on a major comic label and win.
A Faramir doll...Cat, you're scaring me a little.

No you are right about that, characters created more recently by creators have a much easier time in claiming and winning cases because most have looked to see what has happened to past and seen the bad treatment and try to cover their bases. Which I am sure how Liefeld won royalties for Deadpool.
But, the longer you go back with creators where contracts and deals seemed to be made less with written agreements and work for hire issues it is much harder if almost impossible to win.
In some cases like when Paul Levits when he was President of DC he was very close to creators rights and anytime a new long term character was created, even if minor, he would get the writer to sign an agreement that they were entitled to a cut if the character moved to other media. Len Wein I think talked about that with his creation Lucius Fox.

lol, I loved these "You Might Be A Geek" jokes.
I raised my hand for the "Not playing WoW on Sunday" part. Basically because my character rolled a priest and she would be too busy attending to the Cathedral of Light services to go on any quests and dungeon runs.
After hearing the brief summary of this Moses movie-I am a bit courious to see how the Christian community is going to take this, will they say "Meh" or will they form a backlash against it?
Same goes with the possible "Noah's Ark" movie.
I guess we will hit that roadblock when we come to it then.

Great podcast, guys. Looking forward to your thoughts on Comic Book Men. And don't diss that show--there's a MAJOR geek surprise in Ep. 2 ;)
I don't see 3D movies slowing down just yet. One out of four is usually pretty awesome to view with 3D's perspective depth--as mentioned in Gonzo's comments on Toy Story 3. Even "A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas" had gimmicky effects, but it played up the humor very well, and those effects still work when watching it in 2D. "HUGO"was a beautiful film, & the 3D effects on the scenery made me feel like I was following in in the adventure instead of being the camera person.
And yes, BBC is charging WAY too much for the Doctor Who Con.
Keep the "You Might Be A Geek" jokes coming, Gonzo!
