The Logic I think that this always fail is,

1.) There are 2 groups you have to please when you make a movie adaptation. The fans and the non fan general public.

2.) The people who make the films want to please both groups. This balancing act just doesn't work out.

3.) The non fans will be confused by the "continuity" or "culture" of it, that was added in to appease fans. The fans will be mad at any changes made.

And for my personal things I like that get adapted to movies.

    Anime:

    1) Don't try and "Americanize" it. This falls under "culture" in the upper area.

    2) Live action adaptations of animated things just never work out. Even the Japanese anime live action adaptations are TERRIBLE (my opinion).

    Video games:

    1) Try and choose a game with good potential for adaptation. Mario may be popular, but I can't see a 2 hour live action adaptation of the story "Bowser kidnaps Peach".

    2) At least make an attempt to follow the game story. Why even bother adapting it if you aren't. I can only assume they want the name recognition if they aren't. (like, off topic, Forrest Gump. Seriously read the book, he goes into space with a monkey, crash lands and lives on a tropical for 5 years.)

For the Guyver movies, Mark Hamil was actually in the first one and David Hayter was in the second one as the Guyver.

Huh... Cat seems to be only coming out through the left channel. Weird.

Also Dragonforce doing the Thundercats theme! That would be epic!
  • Deburr5  - Mass Effect Movie
I'm a huge fan of the Mass Effect Games and I completely support the idea of a movie.
But they don't and should not condense the two games into one movie. They should just make one movie about the first game to see what the response is to it, then if it it a success, develop a second and third movie.
Although the story is still huge in the first one, they would be able to take the core story line and make that into a 2 to 3 hour movie.
The game is perfect for a movie adaptation; action, romance, and most of the characters are visually based on the voice actor (ie. david anderson, Joker, and every character in ME2).
Lastly, I think the best actor who looks like Commander Shepard is Matthew Fox. He physically looks like Shepard, and he is a good actor.

Anyone else agree with me? Dr. Gonzo, your thoughts? I know your a fan on Mass Effect also, tell me if you need help developing that time machine to pick up ME3 from the future.

I think that when you adapt a video game or anything else (especially one in a large series); it's best to treat the movie as a new entry into the franchise instead of adapting one particular entry. If you stay too close to the game, gamers will go "why did I just pay $10 to see something 1:1 that I could be at home playing?" however when you try to make a new storyline in the series universe; gamers totally freak out.

In my opinion, it's impossible to adapt a game as no matter what you do; gamers are gonna get pissed. Personally, I enjoyed the Resident Evil movies as they're doing something different with the property.

I have to disagree with the notion that Hollywood is out of ideas. There's plenty of original material floating around and there's plenty that has been made within the last few years.

However the reason why studios continue to adapt games, books, TV shows, remakes, make sequels/prequels and such...they make the most money generally speaking. If people stopped going to see these films, studios will be put off by them. Why should they be investing when there's little return?

If when an original film is released into theaters or onto DVD and a lot of people buy/rent it. Studios are more open to original content in a certain genre as obviously original ideas are making money.

It comes down to money talks; bullpoop walks.

I'd be behind Sean Bean for Thundercats. But Kate Beckinsale HAS to be Cheetara.

But how'd you forget Max Von Sydow as Father Merrin in The Exorcist?

Lucky me for being a European, since it's been released in the UK for some time now. I've even got the special limited 3 Disc edition (Blu-Ray, DVD and Bonus DVD) plus Artbook.

I bet you are jealous, aren't you?

That said, it's a pretty solid movie. The got the same voice actors from the game. Plus it also lets the audience to try and piece the main puzzle together before the big reveal. The smaller puzzle sequences are more of a shout out to the game though, but you can figure them out. You just need to be on hyper-alert, even looking for clues in the scenery for the answer to some of them.

I assume it will be out in the US eventually. Otherwise... good thing I got the limited edition right? It's value can pontentially skyrocket.
