04.28.2010 - 12:57 | EbalanceI was under the impression that all Marvel heroes were mutants, but that some were born mutants, and others were mutated by various other means... the powers weren't supposed to come from the mutation itself, but that the mutation allowed one to pick up on "cosmic energy" and tap into it, and that was where all the Marvel heroes got their special abilities.

I did sign the petition.

Awesome show as always guys! It was good to hear a knowledgeable discussion about comics. The whole crossover thing is pretty much a company's way to bring up ratings, sell books and just mess with our minds. But the fact is we all ate it up everytime it was done.
As for as the topic of instruction booklets with games, it doesn't really bother me. I never went through those things and as Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force would say " I DON'T NEEEED NO INSTRUCTIONS TO KNOW HOW TO ROCK!!!!!"

04.28.2010 - 22:22 | CobviousJust a note for Archie's marriage to Veronica. It was a kinda what if? story, that showed what his life would be if he married Veronica, and then went and showed how it would go if he married Betty. Afterwards it was all erased as though it had never happened. and man am I a nerd.

Praise for Graduation Day? I never thought I'd see the day...
Yes, I suppose you're right in the respect that Graduation Day "progressed" the characters. They grew up in the sense that...
- Robin went from a fun guy with smarts who was worried about becoming too similar to Batman to someone whose loved ones were picked off one by one until he ended up as an angsty bastard.
- Superboy went from a happy-go-lucky, well-adjusted hero to constantly being angsty about his parentage.
- Wonder Girl went from a normal girl who was also a capable leader to a screechy bitch and Superboy's trophy girlfriend. Oh, and plenty of angst when the latter died, of course.
- Impulse had his entire character subverted when he went from a hyperactive funny kid to being traumatized in battle and getting serious. Plus, more angst.
Yes, thank you, DC, thank you for "progressing" them! They just weren't DEEP enough before!
On another note, I have to agree with Linkara that Identity Crisis is "insidious". I also liked it the first time I read it, but it just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. The more I learned about the DC universe, the more I realized how misbegotten it was.
And also? I'm disappointed you didn't mention Annihilation among the other exceptionally good events. It's really Marvel's equivalent of the Sinestro Corps War, except even better.
-
I completely agree with you about DC's "progression" of the characters. Because of YJ, I still follow Red Robin, Superboy, Kid Flash & Wonder Girl, but they really have changed dramatically, & not in a good way.
I picked up YJ because Robin was on the cover so I'd follow him anyway and his angst is tough to swallow sometimes. That's when I'll go read "Sins of Youth" or something, just to remember the good ol' days.

"Young Justice" was my favorite comic book of all time and since "Graduation Day" a few members of the team faded into comic book limbo.
I also agree with Linkara that there were plenty of darker themes in YJ (when Empress' father died comes to mind or World at War), they were just handled differently.
I did like Teen Titans to start but it could never be as good now, especially with Static Shock on the team. *eyes roll*
I will watch the Young Justice cartoon but I'm VERY disappointed that they threw in 2 sucky characters (Miss Martian & Aqualad) instead of Wonder Girl & Secret.
My reaction to a new Digimon series...
:woohoo: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESS SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:
yeah I love Digimon to death
Oh and one more thing...I would love to see Stan Lee in MvC3...to the petition!!!!!!!
