04.21.2010 - 22:08 | Apathetic One[b]
I have a hard time following any piece of fiction that uses RETCON...it's just too damn much.
Lol I don't see MS giving a damn about PSN updates moving to Tuesdays...MS still gets tons of stuff before SONY. (CODMW2 Map Pack, GTA4 Liberty City Stories)
I'm on my 5th Xbox360, still on my first Ps3 and first Wii...if MS doesn't do something about their cheap hardware, I'm done with Xbox.
This was a good Episode. B)

04.21.2010 - 22:37 | KaiKyotuLoved the musical break. Brings me back to remembering watching that movie when a friend tied me down to watch this. Good times.
Anyways, some simple questions this week from me, so here goes:
Gonzo: What do you think of Machinima like Red Vs Blue or...fan-made ones around youtube?
Also, you have many stories for another day. Do you have a list of different stories for that other day on the back burner?
Cat: Likewise, your thoughts of AMV's, any really good, really poor ones you've disliked?
In terms of funny cosplays, have you seen the Prince of Cosmos cosplayers where people threw themselves, wearing velcro suits and helmets against a velcro ball?
Travis: Not sure if this question was asked before yet or not, but what comic series is out there that you would be interested in seeing a live movie adaptation of?
Only cons I've attended were Botcon and Connecticon, which I was only partially able to enjoy. When you are with a group of people who are overly social and you yourself (me, for example) are not as social and quiet, not cosplaying as anything, and drama between many of the people in the room rising high, I nearly snapped and shattered the wall, which I don't think the hotel would have appreciate.
Botcon was fairly disappointing, since I didn't really have much interest in Transformers, and in order to meet the Peter Cullen, you needed to purchase the special edition, limited $300 pass that also allowed you to see a sneak preview of the Transformers movie. Otherwise you could not even SEE him in the open area he was in.
On the subject of the Xbox 360, I have had mine for a long time, and it has not red ringed on me yet. I think...5 or 6 years, now.
Granted, I barely play it anymore, and it still has the original interface and everything with no DLC, but that's besides the point.

Let me tell you a little story about Micro$oft's
STUPID points change, There was a certain game I have been waiting years for to come out for either consoles, I didn't care which console it come out for I just wanted it, it was called Afterburner Climax, after years and years and years of waiting for this arcade game to come out for consoles I finally find out that it was coming to XBLA for 800 micro$oft points and I had 300 ms points so being the excited Afterburner fanboy I am I put 6.50 in the bank to pay for 500 ms points only to find out...it was gone...no 6.50 and no 500 selection, now I didn't have enough for the rest of the points (1000 4000 and so on) and that was the day Micro$oft screwed me of my favorite game I have been waiting for, for years...oh well...I can get it next month when I get my check..I did get Lethal thunder HD though, By the way thank you for telling me about Descent coming to the wii ware...I am now very happy.
As for OMIT.....really????? do we have to be reminded of One More Day???
Once again, thanks for keeping me informed. :)

You're welcome, dude :) I really need to see Daredevil again. It's been a while D:
What?! Canceled mangas?! Nooooooooooo ; A ;
I was really hyped about that :( Damn it.
One... more... day... continuation?! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- *censored*
So Steve Rogers is alive now again, huh? Knew it would happen soon :D Good that Steve's alive, I figure o 3 o
Dude, I agree. That's really bullshit. Even the Bullshit man wouldn't believe this shit >~>;;; There are more violent things kids are forced to read for high school and such, damn it.
Good news for the Avengers movie, I say :)
43% have the RROD?! FUUUUUUUUUUU-*censored* I fell victim to that a few months back too ; ~ ; I agree - GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER PEOPLE D:<
Ah well, at least "The touch" can calm me down~8'3

04.23.2010 - 08:02 | Richard WeskerCat, your answer was awesome. I actually have all 3 of those voice actors tied up in my basement by the way. I will have them shipped to you shortly. Speaking of shipping something to you, I do have a copy of Batman: Child of Dreams that I'd be willing to let go of if you wanted to read it. Hit me up on FB if you're interested. As far as Geneon goes, I got into anime because of them. Specifically, when, as Pioneer, they released the first Tenchi Muyo TV series over here. I credit that show, and Pioneer, for getting me into anime in the first place.
Travis, I think the single issue comic needs to die. I myself am moving onto buying only graphic novels from now on.
Lovely episode. It lifted my spirits a little, as this morning has been Hell for me. The Touch by Stan Bush was icing on the cake.
Ah, also, I wanted to go to ASTL this weekend, but couldn't find anyone to go with me. I didn't really have the means to go anyway. It turns out that I AM going to Otakon this year, though. On a related note, I'd pay to listen to Cat's con stories. XD

04.22.2010 - 07:45 | jayceeThanks for answering my questions :D.
Actually what I can say about Microsoft is that... They got in at the right time a few years ago.
Say what you will about their hardware but if they didn't release the console at that time, which was significantly before the PS3, they would have lost the "console war" of this generation esp. with what we see about their hardware.
They pretty much sated the interest of the Next Gen graphics the 7th Generation Boasted and repeatedly stuck into our heads at that time and by the time the PS3 came out... We were already desensitized to all that.
Actually I'm very pleased Sony got part of their act together and released the Slim version of the PS3 and reduced the prices of their products. They might actually be able to keep up now.
But I will forever hate Microsoft for putting out a badly rushed product. Good marketing, bad product.
I doubt people will stop buying Microsoft's consoles. Once they slap on a COD game(or any FPS that bloats this console for that matter) in there, every 12 year old with a tantrum will get an XBOX720(you never know).

04.22.2010 - 09:48 | No Limit
And THAT, children, is why I only have a PS3 and Wii...though, the PS3 was a gift.
I have NEVER been to a convention, but I SO WANT TO.
Gonzo, what do you think of that Nintendo 3DS that they've announced? What I mean is how they heck are they going to make games 3D without glasses, as Nintendo mentioned? Or am I totally missing the point? XD
Cat, what anime/manga titles would you like to see brought over that haven't been licensed yet?
Travis, what is it about superhero comics that you love the most? By that I mean what really struck a cord with you and made you really read comics? This probably has been answered already though, and I've forgotten. ^^;

04.22.2010 - 09:45 | TalsinThe ipad becoming a major phenomenon? Oh thank you for that, i laughed for about twenty seconds solid. (I know I may very well have to eat my words, but hey, enjoy the laughs when they come.)
Doc, you could have just left it at "EA Sports, just EA Sports." Anyone who has ever walked into a game-stop knows exactly what you mean.
I never got one more day... Aunt May's like eighty something... she's old enough to die without anyone saying "she had so much potential." If i had to chose between my octogenarian grandmother and my marriage to the girl of my dreams... I'd stay happily married.
I fail to see what's so bad about a few panels where characters drink and smoke. There are so much worse things out there...
#1 should be disqualified. He doesn't swim around in a pool of his own wealth, and the source material is twilight.
As long as Xbox continues to take the amazing games that should be for PC, people will continually use their glorified doorstops as consoles. (Admit it, as just a console the Xbox is the least impressive of the three.)
Forgive the incoherent nature of this post, I type it up as i listen.
-
04.22.2010 - 18:27 | jayceeI do have to disagree somewhat with what you said about games for the PC going to the BOX.
True those games should be for the PC(Even Moreso since I am an avid PC gamer.) But I can't really say that games for that console aren't being ported to the PC. Sometimes they even have more ports for the PS3 games(only a bit more but it's still something).
Take CAPCOM and KONAMI for example. They have ports for Silent Hill, SF4, RE4 and RE5 that pretty much came out at the same year as the original release; though I would have been more thankful if they also added DLC.
Square Enix with The Last Remnant which was a Godsend simply because I wanted to play it not to mention that they also fixed most of the graphical and technical bugs that plagued the XBOX version
and of course we have the FPSes. I don't really have much to say about it since it's always being done esp. for the XBOX fpses.
I know it kinda derailed a bit or I got a little bit too much or I might even be wrong altogether but I'm merely stating my case regarding this.
disclaimer: maybe you meant games that were originally for the PC going to the XBOX. I will apologize in advance if it were that since my argument is invalid then but hey at least I talked about ports.
-
04.23.2010 - 13:29 | TalsinI haven't actually played any of those for the PC version, and I haven't played the RE games at all. I keep meaning to, but just never got around to.
I have mixed feelings about ports from PC to consoles: on one hand I like seeing these franchises succeed, on the other I hand it feels more and more like all the PC has going for it is RTSs and MMORPGs(more or less) and I don't like MMOs for a few reasons (that's another rant).
I'm just grumpy, so don't give it too much thought.
-
04.23.2010 - 18:24 | jayceeSorry I made a mistake on the second paragraph.
I meant the XBOX has even more ports than the PS3 games. Silly me :p
-
04.22.2010 - 17:17 | Bauzi:( can't you add some pictures and an opening title or something?
Only audio in a video player is lame. There isn't even a background pic.
Thank you for adding the mp3 for download! Makes more sense to me.

There is one. Only one and it is over $300 . Have fun man
I remember my first con, Setsucon in State College, Pennsylvania. It was small and was amazing. In fact the big one I went to, tekkoshocon in Pittsburgh, was less enjoyable for me because of the size. The dealers room in Tekko was amazing and I saw some awesome things but sometimes people were just rude. But Setsucon was cozy, and fun. I didn't have to sit in a large room with a lot of people and that made it a lot easier to ask the people who were are guest. Heck I got to speak to the voice of Lord Zedd, Robert Axelrod. I also could have seen Johny Young Bosh at Tekko but missed him. All in all, I loved both but would love to go to Setsu again.
Does this mean Cat has woken up with con guests? Jk Cat. But who were some of the guests you guys have met at Cons?

04.22.2010 - 18:57 | J1P2KI'd like to say that I was mad that you didn't mention Dr. Horrible's Musical Sing-Along Blog, but the symbols were just a joke. I'll glad you all got a laugh out of it.
And thanks for mention my comment on your show.

>.< Am I the only one who is NOT a big Joss Wheedon fan? His influence could seriously F up the Avengers series. I'll give him a fair shake, though, he does write some good stuff.
For the record; there is at least one slightly suggestive sexual scene in Bone but it is harmless. I really do not think there is any reason to ban children from reading the comic.
And you played The Touch during the break? Hell yes. B)
-
Well..
First I want to thank about the show.. To me it is very new and even when not interesting the topics are something that you don't hear people having conversations about. So even when not interesting it is always original..
But on distributing anime not dubbed to English: I think the decision seems like a solid argument. I have posted a similar kind of comment on the TGWTG site, but not on Nerd to 3rd power.
I think this is probably a cultural issue. And nowadays it doesn't matter that much any more, but previously many anime that arrived to Europe arrived through USA. That meant that there weren't available many animes that were not distributed to USA. And for American dubbing (and especially because of VHS systems) it was very difficult to get Asian material without the American dubbing (which still had subtitles because English is not official language here). It affected even further (like when some Chinese and Japanese live action films were finally releashed to Europe, it was mainly translated by using the American dubbed version which eventually led for people to have wrong names and some plot points translated horribly wrong).
Anyway - I try to keep this comment short so I'll make rest of the points short..
1: "Anime is supposed to be watched in native language."
- It is not. The animation work is made to be for specific language. The length for dialogue etc. is all done to a one specific language. You can see this also for Disney films. Dubbing is not always bad for the film, but clearly there are some culture based words or lines that translate poorly when given the stricth time limit. So I believe any work should be watched in the language it is first produced. To me dubbing animation is less bad than dubbing live action films (which also happen), because the people's original lip movement usually doesn't sync to the voice either.
2: "Dubbing for TV."
- For kids that cannot read this a very good thing. So I am not saying everything should be subtitled.. But I know that kids start to read subtitles at the age of 7-8 so for programs that are meant for older audience there wouldn't be no need for dubbing. Also subtitles serve a kind of strange, but for many reasons a good outcome. The countries that have subtitles in their TV shows usually turn out very well in reading when compared to countries that don't have..
While also - subtitles are very usual in Scandinavia which also have very good library system in general.. So is the fact that people read more, because of system provides many free books or because of that people read television programs and get used to read stuff? I don't know..
And I do know that some countries dub everything. I've visited Germany, Spain and Tunisia which all have their share of dubbing (and for where Germany does it really !really! well).

NHL2010, I had to buy due to the fact that they didnt bring it out for the PC.
When they had the PC version, they kept the same copy of it for THREE years in a row and it pissed me off... I have to agree with the statment. I am so tempted to march to EA Sports in Vancouver, and get on them about the stuff.
However.. they do bring some other stuff out and make it a bit better.. I mean you dont have fighting in Basketball, or Football, and Hockey they seem to concintrate on.
I am one of the Victims that buys every NHL game from EA Sports and even went as far as to buy a PS3 to buy NHL 2010. I have been playing that game since '89 and I dont know what they put into there.. but it is F@#king addicting :)

04.24.2010 - 12:34 | HennaikimonoThe thing I like about anime cons as said in the video/audio is:
dealers room - its the right time, right place for perchsing the rare goods you wanted or discovered there. Unlike online buying, you also get the goods right then and there.
the atmosphere - everybody is generally happy to be there and and in a better mood than if you met them on the streets. Its like your among a bunch of your peers and you can talk to the people about the "weird/different" stuff you like and they may acually care and know what your talking about.
Weird con experience:
During the first time SanJapan(a small San Antonio, Tx con, 2008?) was held there was a Mental Health Summit going on in the same hotel. We con goers probably reinforced what the summit was about.

04.24.2010 - 13:39 | EbalanceI actually think Disney is trying to shed their "Disney's for Kids" image. They keep doing more PG-13 movies and I think they really want to have multiple brands and I feel they will just let Marvel do their thing pretty much. They're so good at it, anyway. I would agree that probably the super heroes might creep into Disney more than the other way around. Also except for "Disney Princess" and a few little crossovers from their 90's TV shows... Disney is incredibly diverse and I don't think Disney fans even think that all Disney things exist in the same world. So I don't see Marvel being sucked in... after all they have Star Wars stuff at Disneyland, but Star Wars is certainly not generally associated with Disney. I think Marvel will have a similar place.
Japanese adaptation of American Book: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones... yes I know it's a movie adaptation not a manga adaptation...
"End of the corner"... interesting expression...
I don't see how comic books can even have canon with all the crazy alternate universes and parallel storylines and OMG!!! With all this stuff even one character's backstory ends up being like an entire short novel...
I think it's weird that all these 4th and 5th graders like Naruto... I don't know if they're still watching it, but if they are... Shippuden is for young adults. Also I don't get the whole thing in America about gore and violence being accepted, but anything sexual at all gets everyone all up in arms... some of my favorite characters in Anime/manga are massive perverts, but that's what's funny. Also it's not like they get anywhere, and they're basically just guys/gals who keep striking out over and over...
DUCKTALES!!! WOOHOO!!! (somewhere NC is singing along)
Souls... go watch "Not Without My Handbag"
Nintendo is the Apple of the console world, and Microsoft SUCKS!!!!! Oh, and Apple & Nintendo need to get together to make a really good tablet... ipad... bad touch capacity... Nintendo DS... pretty good, actually, and that's from 2007. If they could get it up to true art quality they'll kill!!! Also I'm SO STOKED for Dragonquest IX and the new Gold and Silver for the DS!!!
I LOVE MANAMANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I live in LA and buy all my ANIME stuff at a wholesale/retail place in downtown called CASA MANGA... they have good stuff and it's cheap, though it's really only for ultra popular franchises... (they're not the same as the website)... so only if you find yourself in downtown LA...
You can look up to anyone... it's programmed heavily into the human brain to create a pecking order...
