Wow, Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 28% :| I thought it was a lot of fun, and Jonathan Pryce has a great voice.

I don't know about most people, but most people I know don't like Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny. I really don't get why anyone would dislike this movie. Sure, there are a lot of 'in' jokes referencing the TV series, but this was gold. It also bombed at the box office, but I'm sure that was lack of promotion. Highly recommend if you love rock and you love comedy.

Independence Day

Almost all the Godzilla films

Some Gamera films

ALL 6 the Star Wars live action films
Godzilla is the son of the atomic bomb. He is a nightmare created out of the darkness of the human soul. He is the sacred beast of the apocalypse.

Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it's no Raiders of Crusade, but still decent. Ofcourse there are dozens of obvious so-bad-it-rocks picks (I love the Wicker Man remake), but Indy 4 is one I like the way it's intended.

I liked the Lundgren and more recent Punisher War Zone more, which is something I shouldn't admit either.

A movie I liked and almost everyone else (including fans of JCVD) hate: Legionnaire.
IMHO one of the best movies JCVD ever made.

And because I just read it in another post:
Hellraiser: Bloodline

And because I just remembered it:
Leprechaun 1-3 (I really get a good chuckle out of these)

I like Space Jam. And The Pagemaster. I sort of like the Super Mario Bros. movie but not that much (and I do agree with most of the complaints that others have).

Is there a thread for movies we hate but most others like? Because I think my list of those would be bigger.

Agreed on all counts. I've gotten flak for it in the past, but I love the hell out of it. It's one of the oft-quoted films (along with Hudson Hawk) between my best friend from college and I.

Demon Knight was some nice campy B-style fun, plus it had an interesting backstory. Not too sure what the more general public's reaction but it only got a 6 or something on IMDB.

Event Horizon I thought was pretty well done, not to mention it had has one of the most disturbing scenes I've ever seen in a film.

Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It's rare that I come across someone else who enjoyed the film.

Although I wouldn't call it great or even all that good, I didn't hate Ghost Rider as much as most people seem to. I think it's ok.

Resident Evil Degeneration: It's not connected to the live-action films, but it's certainly tied within the video game continuity (and even gives us an early bird cameo of Tricell, the antagonistic group in Resident Evil 5).

Super Mario Bros.: Yes, YES, I know this gets a lot of flak, but there's just something about this film that appeals to me...plus, it's a good film for rainy days.

Good Burger: This is actually a lot of fun to watch, especially during summertime.

how the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000): A lot of people will state that it's not as good as the original cartoon or book, but when you compare this to the heavily-mature-themed "Cat in the hat"...well, this one's a lot better.

Land of the Lost.

It's not supposed to be taken seriously. It's a parody of the original television show, not supposed to be a faithful adaption. It's hilarious, and that's all I can ask of it.

The Pagemaster. No idea why, I just enjoyed it as a kid to the extreme and have no bad memories connected with it.

Killing Zoe. Most people I watched it with enjoyed it a lot and it's one of my favorite movies (except the end, which I detest), yet reviews for it are terrible. I just think it creates a lot of atmosphere and I really like the characters.

Stargate. Used to be my favorite movie for years. I have a thing for some sci-fi flicks and this is my realm of nostalgia.

Final Fantasy : The Spirits within. I can barely remember it, even though I've seen it multiple times, but I remember that I liked it the last time I saw it. Genuinely.

300. I LOVED the visuals and somehow everything about how this was told. I love this movie. Love it love it love it. And I have no idea why. It delivered so well and gave me what I expected.

Eden Log. Lots of people that actually know it were going all "confusing and not scary and what was the point uuh" about it, but I loved the visuals, plot, actors and it genuinely disturbed me.

Contact. I don't care whether you see no aliens or monster, I'd be pissed off if I did.

Romeo + Juliet. I loved how they kept the original dialogue but changed the time, I loved how absurd Tybalt seemed to be, I loved the soundtrack. Talk Show Host and Exit Music were beautiful in it. Also it had one of my wussiest moments- I was holding back tears at the end, but then, when "exit music (for a film)" started playing, I cried rapidly.

The Signal. I won't ramble on about why I love it so much, though, I do that all the time already.

BASEketball is my favorite movie ever, and I also love Good Burger. However, I haven't really come across a lot of people who hate those, despite bad reviews. My brother and his friend enjoy Dude, Where's My Car; personally I can't stand it, and to be fair they're stoners and I'm not, but again, I don't think it's a widely hated movie.

All Dogs Go to Heaven has been mentioned, but I think I'm the only one I know who likes All Dogs Go to Heaven 2. Indeed; I like it better than the first. Yeah, it dispenses of everything that made the first movie so original, but in my opinion being original didn't necessarily make it good. I like the sequel partially because I love San Francisco and the movie makes good use of its locations, plus it has a cool villain song, and seeing Carface become a hilarious butt-monkey in his skateboard scene is worth the whole movie to me.

I'm guessing that Contact would have been better-recieved if it wasn't marketed as a film where you expected aliens--though to be fair, that's what people think it is to begin with about any film involving SETI. The film is really more about Religion Vs. Science, and how both can be a detriment to humanity. There's nothing like physically-manifested aliens because that would ruin the film's point as a philosophical question deliberately left open. I think taking a controversial subject, combined with being an American film, has a lot to do with why the movie is widely hated. Americans don't do deep; just look at The Matrix. First film in as long as I can remember that openly challenged the "Don't worry; be happy" idea we're fed everywhere else in the media, and instead of opening their minds to the challenge, Americans took the film as their new Bible for martial arts cinematography. If Contact had been released in Europe, it would have done better.

I don't mind this one, I don't think it's as bad as a lot of people make it out to be, and the visuals were great. I loved the details they gave the Romulan Warbirds.

I can't believe people hate any of these movies.

I admit I was disappointed in the climax of Contact, but it was put together very well.

I'm not sure whether it was a regular release or only shown at tv, but I for my part saw it on tv in Germany. It hasn't been released in europe to start with, that is true, but also was pretty much of a flop here. And I have no idea why. It's really not the hardest movie to understand or "get" or whatever, but so interesting as it. But then again there are people that complain that there is neither gore nor a monster in the blair witch project, so why should I wonder.

The difference is that The Blair Witch Project was dramatically overrated at the time of its release. It's only more recently that people have started complaining that it's a cheat of a movie. There isn't really any comparing the two: Contact is a film that dares to do something other than what people expect; Blair Witch is a film that dares to not do jack-shit.
