It will help explain a lot of things you didn't get from watching the film alone.
The whole "drug sequence" was Bowman going through the stargate. The monolith, like in the past when man was an ape, sort of helped advance human evolution (In case you didn't know, the monolith was put in a certain place by omniscient aliens, and moved when they made an advancement.). What he was seeing was different worlds and oddities in the universe. What happened at the end was Dave dying, and being reborn into an omniscient being. - RolandKincaid

I watched this movie.... once, the ending was so long I was staring at the screen for around 20 minutes after the movie before I realized that. The ending also made absolutely no sense to me, I don't think it made any sense to anyone though. - Seigeengine

I didn't watch all the movie. I've seen the "apes" fighting and that space psychedelic journey (and a little something after it). And I gotta tell ya that these scenes were so dull and long, it hurts. It's the worst movie I've ever seen.

Good job on the video, TGWTG. - TiagoJ7

That looks about right. Apes make tools, man uses tools to make machines, machines enslave man, man morphs into a giant baby in space, Neo frees man from machines...

Oh wait, I think I'm getting my sci-fi mixed up. - psamathos
I hated this movie with a passion because it's so slow that it's mind-numbingly duller than Titanic. This movie would be considered torture if you were forced to watch it without fast-forwarding. The original movie just dragged on every scene for what seemed like an eternity. Thank you for removing those eternities.

You could've spiced it up even further by including the MGM logo overture and the intermission. As if the damn movie wasn't long enough, they had to add in THOSE annoyances. Jesus...
Daikun, you obviously wouldn't know a good movie if it hit you right in the face. 2001: A Space Odyssey is one of the greatest movies of all time. You must have the intellect of a toddler if you got bored with it and did not realize the philosophical meaning behind it all. - Pinkk

The scenes were totally random (which was funny) and Neo saying "Whoa" at the end capped of this good 5 sec video
There was the the equivalent of an epic high (like the drug kind) on the screen for like 20 min towards the end of the movie.

20 MIN! SERIOUSLY, WHY? IT MAKES NO SENSE! Somebody explain, cause it's hurting my brain.
It was Dave "entering" the monolith near Jupiter, if I recall correctly. It was a pretty psychedelic and intense scene, but after having seen what the rest of the movie was before that, you could be expecting that. Plus, Stanley Kubrick loved making scenes last at least twice as long as they needed to.

Again, great job, TGWTG. The ending touch was to perfection. - Zach M.
