Little Kids On Xbox Live PDF Print E-mail

Ugh. I can't believe I'm going to rant about this. But chances are that if you own an Xbox with Xbox Live, you've experienced this problem. And even if you don't, this might still be an entertaining read.

children shouldnt be allowed on xbox live

Alright, so I like to play the game "Halo 3" on Xbox Live sometimes. Its a fun shooter, there's always people playing, the levels are cool, the weapons are cooler -- overall, it's a good game.

There are several different game modes to choose from when playing online. One of them is "Team Slayer", where there are two teams of four playing against each other, going for the highest kill count. It's very fun to put on your headset, talk to your teammates, and come up with a strategy to outwit the other team.

And then there's the times when you get a little kid (and I'm talking little kid -- high pitched squeak box voice and all)  on your team.

Oh boy.

Sometimes it's not too bad. Immediately when you realize there's a little kid on your team you pray for the kid with common sense -- the kid who's just playing for fun, wants to play a good match and have a great time, like the rest of us. And when you get that type of kid, it's not bad. I don't mind those types of kids.

But when you get the bad type of kid...

Oh boy.

The bad type of little kid is the one who thinks he/she is the ultimate badass. Don't get me wrong, it's annoying as all hell when teens/adults think they're the hottest thing since sliced bread, but when it's a little kid it just seems worse.

When this type of kid is on your team, chances are you'll be able to tell right away. Usually in the pre-game lobby where all players can talk to each other, the kid is doing something annoying like singing, trash talking, or talking about how good he is and how he's gonna "kick everyones butts."

Right when the match starts, usually the kid will either "call" a specific gun or vehicle, not realizing that that's not how the game works. If any other player on the team manages to get to that gun or vehicle first, the kid will instantly complain. Complain in ways that a little kid shouldn't. And I mean ways like:
-"You asshole, I called that gun/car!"
-"Fuck you!"
-"What the fuck?!? I said I wanted that!" etc.

When you hear that, it's stunning. Simply stunning. A majority of the time it sounds like Mickey Mouse is cussing you out, so usually your first reaction is along the lines of "Wait...w...what?"

And it gets worse!

Once you cross the little kid, he refuses to play right. He will purposely get killed so the opposing team gets more points, he will kill his own team members, he will run around like a complete moron, he will show off about every single kill he gets whereas the other plays usually have triple his score, and he will bitch about everything.

It gets old fast.

And then once the match is over and you go to the post-game lobby (where all the players can again talk to each other) the little kid starts trash talking. This little kid who hasn't hit puberty talks to people aged usually in the range from 16 to their mid-twenties like he's the biggest,  baddest, toughest thing in the universe.

Keep in mind that "Halo 3" is an M rated game. And let me say this -- the story mode isn't that bad. Honestly. Its violent, but it's very fictional violence (a majority of the weapons don't resemble modern day weapons), and it's not like its some crazy bloodbath the entire time. No, the M rating is really for the online play. The target audience of this game are people who use every swear word in the book as part of their regular vocabulary and get VERY into the game. So why is a little 8-12 year old playing this?

Now don't get me wrong -- I'm not one of those people who think that video games turn children into little monsters. I believe that as long as the kid has had the right upbringing from his/her parents, he/she knows that games are entirely fictional, and he/she knows the difference between right & wrong then they should be fine playing almost any game. Hell, I grew up with video games and I'm a perfectly fine person.

But little kids shouldn't be going into a game talking like they're sailors. Not only is it really annoying, but it just doesn't seem ethically right.

It's even worse when you get a little kid playing "Grand Theft Auto IV" online, but that's a whooollleeee different story.

And really? This is why I tend to only play online at night time when a majority of the little'uns are tucked away in bed.

So yeah, playing Xbox games online is very very fun, but if you don't know how to handle the game, you shouldn't be playing.

Heh,
I hate playing games and being forced to hear 10 year old Timmy talk about how he fucked my mom, or how he is the best player in the game. The people that annoy me the most are the ones, who when they enter a game lobby have to announce how drunk/stoned they are. I mean wow your sooooo cool.

Yeah, that also gets on my nerves. A LOT.

It's even worse when in the middle of the game, someone says "hey, I'll be back in a few minutes, I'm gonna go smoke a joint."

Ugh. For one, do you really need to do that right now?
Two, why announce it!?!
Three, I personally am 100% clean, so its extra annoying to me when people do that. Ugh.

This is one of the reasons I avoid online play (aside from a crappy computer and would most likely get my ass handed to me), so I'm grateful that I don't have to run into these punks. Though it's no different when play a very challenging game at home (like Metal Storm or Ikaruga) and having some little kid constantly trash talking the whole, despite never attempting to play it themselves.
It gets annoying and since you're an adult, you're expected to be mature enough to just let it roll off the shoulders. Now I don't get to a point where I'm screaming or yelling or anything (afterall, it's just a game), but having a 6-year-old friend of my niece trash talk about a game on a system that dominated the gaming industry before they were born is a little annoying.

I loved my niece's comeback though. When she was playing the game and kept dying, she told her friend, "Kenzie, you'd die on the start up screen, so be quiet."

So while I don't run into the "underaged big mouth" situation like you online gamers often do, I can at least feel some sympathy for you. It sucks.

I think it makes perfect sense. It's a direct relationship within the Xbox-Live community. The older you are, the more you swear. Therefore, the more they swear, the older they'll sound. Unfortunately, they haven't gotten to the part of the relationship involving puberty, which more or less negates their argument. Poor saps.

Although I can't really talk. My brother's the Xbox-Live player of the house. He's had some fun with the young 'uns. He's booted one out of a Gears of War online match, only to have the kid come back in and yell at him, saying that he was going to tell his uncle on him. I think that's one of his favorite Xbox-Live stories to tell.
