Wow. We have blogs here? Keen! Heck, I'm one of the founders of this site and I didn't know that till just the other day. I really need to write a memo to myself, chastising my inability to pay attention at Skype meetings.
ME: "Mr. Other Guy?" ALSO ME: "Yes?" ME: "Take a note." ALSO ME: "Okay." ME: "You suck!" ALSO ME: "You want this E-mailed or phoned in?" ME: "Eh... I don't know. Surprise me." ALSO ME: "You got it, boss!"
Oh, cool! I just got a new Email! I'll be right back.
Okay, apparently I suck. That was uncalled for. But whatever. Most people who work around here are douchebags anyway. Thankfully I've got myself to believe in!
Well, now that you're here, I've gotten some questions over the past few days and I figure I should answer them.
Who are you?
First, I am not Not NOT That Guy With The Glasses. We do sound and look kinda alike. But seriously, we ARE two separate people. We just share similar names for tax reasons. I'm The Other Guy -- a.k.a. That Guy With The Glasses' older brother. My real name is Rob... yeah... exciting, huh? We're two years apart. I have half his hair but double the vocabulary (which really doesn't help me any, since Scrabble is no longer the cash cow it once was... sigh, four years of Catholic School wasted).
What do you do?
Currently one of the six founders for the little multi-media biz behind the site. Technically labeled as producer/writer (which carries about as much weight in the real world as Communications Major or High School Guidance Counselor). I provide immoral support for That Guy -- sometimes filming, sometimes assisting in the editing process by providing creative input, critiques, and obnoxiously unsolicited advice. I also "write" (in the loosest form of the word) various articles for the site, and occasionally talent scout (bribes to be accepted the second I get my Paypal account up). I'm also a contributing writer for Nostalgia Critic videos and other sketches.
What have you written?
I helped That Guy pen Cheerios 2, The Wizard, Space Jam, Super Mario Brothers, and others. Some of the bits I remember off the top of my head include: the Lucas Power Glove gag, the face melting Super Mario 3 intro, Bob-omb, "Our princess is in another White Castle," Granny getting pummeled in Space Jam, the Space Jam writing séance, the finale to The Aristocrats, and Supercrapofuckarrificickyalabullshit from Batman and Robin, among others.
Have I seen you anywhere?
The snooty voice behind the bum review intros. The scream behind the melting faces in The Wizard. The evil psych-doctor who strangled That Guy in Batman and Robin. The disembodied voice in the Cheerios 2 sketch. The guy who punched the Nostalgia Critic in the face in the Sports Montage vid. [edit] Also the voice and "hand" of Mr. Puppy in the old You Tube 5 second Movie Explanatory Vid.
Why don't we see you more often?
I prefer to work behind the scenes (where the law can't see me).
Influences?
Both That Guy and I have very similar influences. I can only really list a few (others will probably leak out later if you keep reading). Since we're mostly comedic writers/performers, I'll stick to that. I've always enjoyed British comedy such as Monty Python, Red Dwarf, Hitchhiker's Guide, Black Adder, Fawlty Towers, Black Books, Spaced, Sean of the Dead/Hot Fuzz, etc. On the American side, I like classic Simpsons, Family Guy, Seinfeld, Third Rock from the Sun, The Tick, Home Movies, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Mad TV, SCTV, SNL, In Living Color, and about half the line-up on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim (including Robot Chicken). I'm an avid reader or watcher of Lewis Black, Michael J. Nelson, Bruce Campbell, classic Sam Raimi, Kevin Nealon, Dimitri Martin, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, Steve Corell, Douglass Adams, The Onion, and Mad Magazine. We're also both huge lovers of slapstick, cartoon or otherwise (Three Stooges? Will Ferell? Rowan Atkinson? Tom and Jerry? Donald and Goofy? Bugs and Daffy? Geniuses.)
When did you guys grow up?
Never. But I was born in '79. That Guy a couple years later. So anything from the 80s on through the early 90s was our playing field. Lots of old school Nickelodeon (Stimpy and pre-Stimpy, mostly), Disney Afternoons (Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, etc.), Thundercats, Transformers, He-man, GI Joe, Tiny Toons, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In Jr. High and High School we followed Simpsons, Animaniacs, Gargoyles, X-men, Batman, and South Park. We hated Power Rangers and were way too old for the Pokemon craze (sorry). So if you wanna request stuff to review, keep that time-frame in mind.
Now, a question from ME to ME: What will this blog be about?
Good question! You certainly are handsome and don't suck. Let's have coffee sometime and talk about how great we are (then maybe we can go home and sleep on the bed of lies we made, crying our way to sleep the whole time)! Anyway, this blog will cover anything the articles can't. This includes replies to reader's questions and observations in the Articles section. I might also include things that hit the cutting room floor in the Articles. And... you know... anything else that springs to mind... Maybe some movies outside the Nostalgic genre. Probably a lot about old ads I grew up with as a child and how screwed up commercials were and are nowadays (the strange universe that advertisements seem to inhabit both fascinates and repels That Guy and I). And, of course, maybe a few things about what's going on behind the scenes here.
Whatever. It's a blog. You know the drill. Expect text.
So as a member of Team Glasses, I just wanted to say thanks for joining our community! We maybe douchebags, but hey, at least we're not schizophrenic! Right?
Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Er, no. Yes.
