Welcome. You know, when I was growing up Pokemon was the shit. Nostalgia Critic be damned. The Pokemon show kicked ass. At least in the early seasons. But I am not here to discuss the show. I am here to discuss the games, which are a hundred times better than the show! However, reviewing the main series would be boring. They are great games, and most people know it. So I will be bringing you 2 Pokemon spin off reviews, both for the N64. Pokemon was such a huge success, they brought Pokemon into nearly every genre. Puzzles, trading card games, pinball, virtual pets with speech (you remember that one) and even photography. Pokemon Puzzle League
Pokemon puzzle league is based off of the TV series and is just a puzzle game with a Pokemon overlay. There are many modes to choose from, such as one player, two player (where you can choose your character- Team Rocket FTW!), practice and challenge mode. Now, this game is actually a lot of fun. The puzzle game is solid and the Pokemon overlay is nostalgia inducing for me at least. The goal of the game is to match three symbols in a row and make them disappear. If the blocks reach the top, you lose. Sorta like Tetris for n00bs. Surprisingly it is a lot of fun. The simple way of eliminating blocks can lead to some intense two player battles and leads to a bit more strategy than you might think. This game is available on the virtual console for 10 bucks and if you were a fan of Pokemon, I suggest you pick it up. Its a solid puzzle game with a Pokemon overlay. Certainly not as bad as some of the franchise cash ins we get today. 8/10 Pokemon Snap
Pokemon snap is a rail game in which instead of shooting zombies with a gun you are shooting Pokemon with a camera. Come back, its not as bad as it sounds. As you progress, you get upgrades which you can use to go back to earlier levels to find more Pokemon. Professor Oak grades your photos and you get points. Its single player and has the graphics you would expect from a N64 game. If you are a Pokemon fan, this is a real treat with 63 of the original 151 Pokemon making appearances and unique ways of finding them all. The game offers no virtually no challenge, but is fun, unique and worth checking out if you are a pokefan. Not as good as puzzle league, but charming nonetheless. 7/10 Thanks for reading and comment if you wish. Until next time.

It won't discuss the meaning of life like Metal Gear Solid and it won't take up an entire week to finish if you play it in one setting, but it's still a fun game to play. Especially if it's for a kid just getting into video games.
