To keep my work at balance, I'll now review a good movie called The Call of Cthulhu.

Don't know what Cthulhu is? I say you check wikipedia for more details. For those who don't know who H.P. Lovecraft is, I'll quote Stephen King: "I think it is beyond doubt that H.P. Lovecraft has yet to be surpassed as the twentieth century's greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale." And if you don't know who Stephen King is, I assume you live in a barrel.

So the movie is an adaptation of the celebtated story (Call of Cthulhu) written in 1929 by Lovecraft. Although the movie has been made in 2005 by HPLHS Motion Pictures, it's brought to life in the style of a classic 1920's silent movie. The idea was to shoot the film with mix of vintage and modern  techniques in order to create tho most authentic and faithfull screen adaptation of a Lovecraft story yet attempted.

The movie begins from Arkham Asylum where the main character, now a mental patient, is having a session with he's doctor. He reveals to his doctor the foggy story about how he  found and continued the work of his late grand-uncle. A research which he soon found to be cosmic, horrific and esoteric in nature. The research that drove him to find the truth and lose his sanity.

So far this is my favourite Mythos based movie so far. There are also  movies like  Dagon (2001), Re-Animator (1985) and From Beyond (1986) that are considered good films but I don't have a personal opinion of these since I haven't seen any of them. If we focus on Cthulhu, there's only one other film I can recall (Cthulhu (2007)) but it has nothing to do with Cthulhu. In fact, it's just a thriller for fags and fag-likes, made while jamming a hanger up the ass to buy LSD.

If you haven't read the original story you might not get as much out of this one. Before watching this film, I recommend that you go to your local library/bookstore and get your hands on this cosmic-horror classic. Who knows: maybe you'll fall under the Cosmic Pull, gain Knowledge of the Greater Truth and become One of Us!!! *MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!*

HPLHS is also making a new film of another Lovecraf's story: Whisperer in Darkness. The film is supposed to be released during this year on dvd. The trailer looked promising and as a Cultist, I must get it in my hands (and probably review it as well).

Next week: Silent Hill 4: The Room
