Trailer:
Tropic Thunder. As you may have heard, the film opens up with three truly genius fake trailers starring the main characters of the movie. I won't spoil them here, but suffice to say they start the movie out on a very strong note. The movie is about three actors filming a big budget war movie, but they are near impossible to work with. The desperate director decides to send them "into the shit" and film in the middle of a jungle, with the actors fighting their way out.
Almost everything in this film worked great. Robert Downy Jr gives a legendary performance that goes down as one of the greatest comedic performances ever in my book. Jack Black is also spot on. Ban Stiller does not give a spectacular performance, perhaps due to his directing the film, but he is above average at worst. The dialogue in this film works and is very funny. Downy Jr. in particular is given some spectacular lines that he sells wonderfully.
The film falls when you realize the plot does not make much sense. I will not get into it, because it really does not matter. This movie was made to skewer Hollywood and give the audience a good time. It succeeds on both these levels. I enjoyed myself quite a bit. I even laughed my ass off at Tom Cruise, a douchebag that usually brings my piss to boiling point.
Overall, the film is hilarious and a great time at the movies. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good comedy. I would not recommend very young kids to go see this, as there is a lot if cussing and violence, with most sexual jokes probably going over the heads of younger viewers. Although Jack Black offering to suck a dick is far from subtle. The film achieves what it set out to accomplish in an entertaining manner, and that is more than enough to recommend this film with an:
8 out of 10
Thanks for reading and comment if you wish. Until next time.

Aw, man, that was so funny... Good review, though I disagree wqith you on the plot. It was just Fantastic, and the overall finished movie was more than an 8/10...But, still, good review.

The plot is not groan worthy like The Mummy 3 or The Clone Wars, but I just felt it was the weakest part of the movie. It was between an 8 and a 9, but I ultimately decided to go with an 8. I do think it was better than Pineapple Expess.
