Ladies and Gentlemen, I'd like you to remember the cartoons of the 90s. Remember you could get away with adult undertones in cartoons, the animation was great, the action was just awesome, and anime wasn't too overwhelming?

Of corse I am talking about the child's heaven that is:

What whatever happened to this wonderland of cartoons?

What happened to all the great shows like Looney Toons, Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Labratory, and The Power Puff Girls?

These were all replaced  by the crap that is Total Drama Island, Chop Socky Chooks, Chowder, and Flapjack.

But what caused this once amazing channel to go down hill?

I'll take a special look into this success story turned into crap mountain this Saturday in.....

Ah, i used to love Cartoon Network so much...I currently don´t have it any longer, which was quite hard, as that was a channel i had for quite a few years. I slightly remember the channel being called something else when i was very little...Don´t remember what. I noticed a year ago or so, they changed the logo. The beloved CARTOON NETWORK logo with black and white letters changed into a simple cartoonish looking CN. Sounds like a unimportant change, but to me, that meant something. The logo had been there since my early childhood in the early 90´s, it´s sort of a symbol of my youth, so i was surprisingly pissed at the whole logo change thing.

And i just started on the logo. Now on to the cartoons. Oh, so great, so funny, ALWAYS something to watch...Then over the course of the years, SOME were funny to watch, while others were plain boring. Really, really boring. Goodbye to Cow & Chicken, 2 Stupid Dogs, Courage The Cowardly dog, Dexters Laboratory, Powerpuff girls, I Am Weasel, Tom & Jerry, Johnny bravo, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo (The old Hannah Barbara one), The Mask (The cartoon) Wingdings, Top Cat, Samurai Jack, some others i forgot... ALL of them, gone... Some make a rare appearance, but that is...well, rare, i just said that, keep up. Sorry for the long post, this is a subject that is also important to me. Cartoons aren´t just for kids, they are for all age groups out there.

What really bugs me, is all this anime shit on CARTOON NETWORK....While i like anime, the crap on cartoon network...Is so boring, so goddamn bad. It is beyond epically bad...

Btw, some of the images you were trying o put up, isn´t showing.

Ah, yes... I still remember when I was like 10 and did nothing but watch Cartoon Network. All great shows, awesome fun. A lot of the shows I don't even remember. I still remember Godzilla though. Where some dude pressed a button on his belt and Godzilla came out of the sea to the rescue. I cried when they stopped that... And although I miss the good ol' shows, you have to admit- they got boring. I mean, I just need to see 5 seconds of the Power Puffs, Scooby, Johny and every other show and I can tell you exactly what events will happen in the episode and in what order.

It's not just Cartoon Network, pretty much every channel in this field [Nickelodeon, even Disney Channel had its moments] has gone down the tubes.

Total Drama Island and Chop Socky Chooks can GTFO, but Chowder and Flapjack are pure GENIUS. Sure, the old stuff was great, but that doesn't mean there isn't new stuff that can't be great too. So stop living in the past. :/

another thing to add to your list would be toonami (if it still exists) which used to have variety

I hear what you are saying that new shows can be great, the problem here, however, is that MOST of the new shows are so bad.

Cartoon Network did 3 things to really piss me off:
written by omegasinnocence , August 08, 2008
1. Destroyed the Toonami block- Now when I look back on Toonami, I remember an awesome block of shows that ran for about 3-4 hours on the weekends and 2-3 hours on weekdays. They had action-packed shows such as Outlaw Star, Thundercats (I think), Ruroni Kenshin, Gundam Wing, the Tenchi series, and much more. Now it is a 2 hour block with only 3 shows. CN needs to go back to a 4 hour block with DECENT ACTION SHOWS!!!!!! Not that Bakugan shit, not Yu-Gi-Oh, and not Pokemon season 5859488402! We need DECENT ACTION SHOWS!!!

2. Placed shows in early morning time-slots- I'm not talking about 7 or 8 in the morning. I'm talking about fucking 5 a.m. timeslots. I really don't understand why CN did this to many shows. I know they did this with one of the .dot/Hack cartoons, which would have been good in a Toonami block. But the one series in particular is Yu-Yu Hakusho. This was probably one of the best shows in Toonami history. Instead of playing through the series in the Toonami block, they put the show at a 5:30 a.m. timeslot, went through then entire series, and never replayed another episode. Smooth. Real fucking smooth.

3. THEY FUCKING GOT RID OF TEEN TITANS!!!- This is where they fucked up hard for me. Teen Titans was one of the best shows on Cartoon Network ever. I'm positive that they were getting good ratings from the show. And right when it gets interesting, the show gets canceled.

...

...

dot dot FUCKING DOT!!!!

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH CN? DID THEY NOT LIKE THE SHOW OR SOMETHING? WHY AIR IT SO LONG AND CANCEL IT AT A REALLY GOOD POINT? I JUST CAN'T FATHOM THIS! WHY GET RID OF THIS AND NOT CANCEL THE SHITFEST ON A STICK CALLED POKEMON? DAMN!

I understand that they have to get new shows because the same old shows won't run forever. But the quality of some of these new shows is just lame. (Flapjack and Chowder have made me laugh before and I'm not afraid to admit that.) I can deal with this, for those 3 reasons above, I just don't understand.

And what the fuck happened to the Acme Hour?

Pokemon used to be fun. That all ended in the middle of season..1. Yeah. Then it turned into the shitfest we see today. Just...boring. I got tired of it LONG ago. omegasinnocence, i´m not to sure Thundercats were ever on CN. I have watched it since it started, so i should know. We live in different countries, so that should be an obvious explanation. They air different things on CN in different countries. The thing that they have in common, is that they are getting worse.

Yeah they really screwed the fans on the Toonami front. That and Adult swim is what got their ratings, so you'd think they'd expand those mediums. Instead they get rid of all the great Toonami shows (Reboot, Yes Thundercats was part of weekday Toonami, Ruroni Kenshin, Sailor Moon, DB-DBZ, Tenchi, Gundam, Ronin Warriors, Outlaw Star) as well as the Adult Swim (Outlaw Star...agian smilies/angry.gif ,Samurai Champloo, Ghost in the Shell, Wolfs Rain, Paranoia Agent....and so forth)shows.

To me, Yu Yu Hakusho was the biggest victim. Loved it uncensored on AS. Then they moved it to Toonami with a few cuts but mostly intact. No prob...I could deal with that. Then it just disappeared midseason. I'm like what the fuck!? Then one Friday morning I'm up early to leave town and there it is...5 motherfucking AM!?!?! They played the rest of the series like that!!

They've completely wiped Action out on the AS weekday line (with the exception of Inuyasha that comes on at 4:30 AM!!!!) in exchange for complete comedy domination. Now I love Family Guy......the first 1200 times I saw each episode! They play a full hour of Family Guy....at the same time Fox is playing Family Guy. Now I have nothing agianst comedy, the problem I have is that most of their 15-minute comedy shows only have a few episodes...soooo instead of playing any action.....they repeat the same fucking comedies over and over and over and over and over and over and over....they even got rid of the good comedies like Space Ghost, Brak, and Sealab!
