Reach is awesome because it is a Halo game. It's like ratchet and clank, why change a money making phenomenon.

I didn't have problems controlling vehicles except for the tank. That thing doesn't seem to go wear I want it to go. Everything else works fine. The music was great, but the characters were boring and I didn't care much about them. Good review Sage.

Reach is, like Sage said, more of the same. That works for some and doesn't work for others. I'm one of those others. I honestly haven't been too interested in Halo since Halo 2 and, as such, I'm just not interested in this game.

Good review Sage. I do like to hear your opinions on what is coming out. =)

As I said on Joe's review, even if this is intended to be the last game, it won't be. Microsoft will never let a franchise such as this die. It makes too much money. I hope for all the Halo fans' sakes that Microsoft won't just have crap released under the Halo name because they know the name will sell. We'll all just have to see what happens. At least, those are my thoughts right now.

Just curious, does anyone else think similarly?
• shrederman38  - Re: whatever42
I completely agree. Microsoft's going to milk this franchise as long as it can. Bungie at least had some class and wanted to make halfway decent games, but Microsoft's not gonna give a shit about any of that.

There are actually already plans for additional Halo titles, Microsoft plans to try doing regular installments of them. This is just Bungie's last Halo title, after this they move onto other things and leave the IP in Microsoft's hands.

I suggest they will use Halo like Nintendo often uses Mario; they plaster it onto games that they don't think will sell otherwise and re-brand the target game's content to match, but also make the occasional genuine Halo title which is basically a clone of the first game with some minor power up and game play tweaks.

Microsoft just cares about the money, not the quality. They have a long track record demonstrating this I'm afraid.

I only take heart in the fact I'm not a fan of Halo now, so I can at this point know never to spend money on it in the future either. =)

the friendly A.I suck, as you said they can't drive for shit also they Suicidality run into enemy fire, i even saw a friendly stand next a brute doing fuck all (no joke).

Its funny the leader tells you "none of that lone wolves stuff" but i found that to be the best strategy.

rest of the game is great, but i feel underwhelmed -_-

You're refreshingly articulate, as always Sage. The comedic gimmicks from Doug, Lupa, Spoony, Phelous and the others are wonderful but it's still nice to come to you and get a serious, well written (and spoken) review. So thank you, very much. =D

You've hit the nail on the head with Halo games being more of the same as time goes on. Personally, I think they should have stuck with the trilogy and then continued the novels if they felt compelled to do so. Also though, I understand that they want money and I'm sure it's fun creating new games. Either way, I lost all interest after Halo 3.

Im not going to lie I hated all the halo games except halo one. The story got stupid on halo 2 and by halo 3 I really didn't care who died or who won =D But I did try to beat them but it just got too weird and stupid for me that I just gave up, I have never beaten any of them besides halo 1.And I agree 100% on the marines. It seems to me like every game now of day depicts solders all the same for once I want to see one loss his fucken mind and kill everything in sight or at least say something that doesn't sound all fucken motto!! :talkbiz: You know like being humen. But thats just me peace.

I've always enjoyed your more critical style. It's nice to see things from different perspectives, and you seem to have the sharpest eye when it comes to pointing out flaws in a game.
• Formula Fox
(direct copy of the comment I posted in Sean's review as you two noted similar characterization concerns)

I've heard a lot of people complain about the lack of character development for your squadmates hurting the experience - not being able to feel it emotionally when they die and all. I've been curious about it for a while since it actually did impact me when I played(though not much - likely due to the flat voice acting), and I think I've finally figured out what the deal is - why some people feel it and others don't.

I don't know for certain if this was Bungie's intent or not, but it seems that what they were really aiming for that your squadmates as characters aren't terribly relevant to what's going on. You're supposed to feel the impact of what's happening to REACH, not your squad. As your squadmates get picked off you're not supposed to necessarily feel sadness over their deaths so much as it's supposed to drive home the hopelessness of the ENTIRE SITUATION. Not only are the almighty Spartans unable to stop the Covenant this time, they can't even save themselves.

All that said, there is one thing about Halo Reach that will make it one of the coolest games ever for the rest of time:

NATHAN FILLION PWNED JUSTIN BIEBER.

No, goddammit, I won't shut up about that. It is the only undeniably cool thing about Reach - everything else is debatable.
• badcop69
i couldn't make it through the full video. i wil lsay reach has it's moments and missed oppertunities but frankly i felt things were above par for halo and xbox 360 game. i can't understand how we could have had pretty much opposite experiences with reach but then again with lines like "the only real reason anyone plays halo is the multiplayer." that's kind of showing.

i can see why sean and angery joe seemed to get it right on the nose and you just bearly give it a passin grade if that. then again this game i doubted would win over any non fans of the series.

"The only reason anyone plays Halo is the multiplayer"? I know that was in jest (or rather a condensed blanket statement) but Sage, the only reasons I play the Halo games (and why I hated Wars and ODST) are the story and characters.

I'll play this one day. I still haven't played 3 but then again I don't own a 360. It's too expensive when the economy is shit and no one will hire me right now.

I agree. Multiplayer is not everything and its reason why so often story and campaing are not well done. Becouse they think that no one wants to play campaing and cares about story so they end up making multiplayer main thing.

Allright review
however you completely forgot to touch upon several things.
There was a lot more that needed to be said about the online multiplayer, for example the new way a game mode/level is selected
And forge was completed ignored. Which itself has had some major improvements.
Also there were a lot of weapons added, you said there were only some tweaks
Your opinion of the armor additions seemed a bit ignorant as they are key to survival in multiplayer.
As well as in legendary, you said that sprint was the most useful, however i found that hologram was by far the most lifesaving, distracted those brutes every time >.
• YamiSilaas  - -facepalm-
Okay, Ive just gotta say this. Why the fuck complain about the chareters voicing and lack of emotion. THESE ARE FUCKIGN SPARTANS. Theyre are TRAINED to be like that. What the fuck were you expecting, Samus from other M? The cold badassery would be RUINED If they tried to make them emotional. Go read the halo books for gods sake.

Like I said in the Red Dead Redemption review, I'll always go for the solid single player experiance rater than online play, most of my online play is really just downloading DLC and classic games I like the concept of Halo but it's clearly not ment for me
• SIN117
You forgot to mention one thing Sage. The story line, nor the characters match up to the origonal story. I have read the book "HALO: Fall of Reach" (the first in the series) and still consider it one of the best writen I have read. Seeing as how they could have made a far better game with the origonal story I refuse to buy it. As for the characters, will I could go on for a while saying how they fucked those up. But, you where right, this is the time where bungi could have really shown what changed the Spartans into the cold emotionless people they are.
YOu know what, Fuck it. 90% just bought it to play the multiplayer anyway. So I guess for those players it would be good enough. Though for a true Halo fan I am just going to say this. For the sake of money they fucked this up just as bad, if not worse, then the last book.

I think Microsoft is going to hire Respawn Entertainment to make new Halo Games. Duty Calls for Master Chief.

Both Sage and Joe made some pretty solid reviews for Halo: Reach, but I just want to know if you can still punch out people both in the campaign and multiplayer.

I'm not a Halo fan, not that I'm a Halo-hater. A friend of mine, he's the Xbox 360 player, and yet he doesn't like either Halo 2 or 3 for one simple reason: You can put a hundred rounds into a guy, and yet he can just run up to you, throw a punch, and kill you in that one hit. The reasoning is that my friend wants to play a 1st-person SHOOTER, not a boxing game! Although being able to punch people out is a reasonably realistic thing to do, my friend (plus myself) think that one-hit kills with punches is unfair and takes away the enjoyment. That's why he's sticking to Medal of Honor: Modern Combat 2 and Shadowrun.

You've pretty much said it just as well as Sean and Joe did for the game. It's definitely for the fans of Halo and newcomers will either love it or hate it.

In a way, I do believe, personally, that it is a good intro for the newcomers to at least get an idea of what the story's about(to a fault at least) before jumping into the other games for their stories.

All in all, I'm glad to get this game since I'm more of a casual fan of the series, but will agree that it'll be a hit or miss for the newcomers.

Why was Angry Joe the only one that mentioned the space combat? I think that's the most intriguing feature.
• NextGenNerd
Good review, I pretty much agreed with everything except for the vehicle, I see it the exact opposite the vehicles are easy for me to drive in halo. But really when it comes to campaign everyone plays it for marty O' Donnell's amazing scores haha. It's the best part!
Why was Angry Joe the only one that mentioned the space combat? I think that's the most intriguing feature.
Uhm I don't kno if u missed, but it he did. Briefly about 2:10 in.

I like how Sage listed "Territories" in his returning favorites quotes. Haha, no offense, but thats not exactly a favorite.

I agree with the poorly gripping story, but I blame the music more then the actual dialogue. Its recycled and the new original music for this game is just, underwhelming. Not the same as it has been at all. Compared to the others, its just bad.

I've been playing mostly campaign. While I admit that in 3 I was mostly a Multiplayer person, in this game I find the multiplayer so glitchy and unfinished, that its almost unplayable. & I'm not talking about the spawns. I hope Bungie gets on this host-switching, black screen of death, and other strange glitches quick.
• Dead Striker
I think Bungie couldn't really put more/better dialogs because their time was limited because the game was already full and extra content would have made crash so I lets just enjoy the game for all the its good stuff.

Let's be honest with us, what Bennett said about multiplayer is partially true. Yes, many fans play Halo for its universe, story and characters, but undeniably the one feature that fans enjoy the most is multiplayer. I mean, how many people have you heard mention that they played the single player a lot? I understand that some fans will replay the story over and over again because they enjoy it that much, but the truth is that the multiplayer is what will keep players returning to it. Not to mention that Bungie packed multiplayer with a lot of features, options and extras, most likely knowing that this is the one feature fans would keep returning to the most.

So yeah, people play Halo for many reasons, but multiplayer is easily the most popular one.
