I bought this game the day it came out, and that night my friends and I played through most of story mode. I have to say, as a fan girl, I'm really pleased with the game and how everything was designed.
My one complaint is, of course, not enough songs, but those will come with time...
Great review, Sage!

09.16.2009 - 21:46 | ShmooglavoueMy parents are pretty heavy beatles fans, so we ended up getting this game shortly after it's release. From my experience, it's a blast, so long as you enjoy the music of course. This game is best played with friends/family who also enjoy beatles music. It's so fun in fact, that it has gotten my dad interested in getting other music games (he has had no interest in games whatsoever up until now).

I've been quite fascinated with The Beatles' music, but never took the time to listen to much of their music when I was kid to now. Now that my friend lent me his Stereo CD Remasters, I was hooked. Now I'm pretty excited to get my hands on Beatles Rock Band.
Thanks for the review, Sage!

The Beatles DO NOT SUCK! You may not like them, but what sucks about them? Really? Why say something so silly, immature, and a little hurtful?
OK. So that anger mainly comes from the fact that I'm just plain annoyed by Beatles music. I use to not just like the Beatles, but then I got really annoyed when people say they are the greatest classic rock band of all time. The Beatles are NOT classic rock, let alone the best. If anything they are in the transitional period of classic rock. But as to why I don't like their music I just gotta say, they are really boring. I swear 95% of their music isn't even above 90 bpm, and their harder rock is so repetitve it gets old fast. And some of their music is just annoying (ex yellow submarine) The reason I left it to just the Beatles suck is because I didn't want to rant, but you asked for it.
-
For alot of us, they're one of the greats as far as bringing something different compared to being the "same old, same old" that alot of groups or music acts did around the time.
Even so, to complain about the BPM, that's a bit much to nitpick when some songs aren't always needing to go so fast.
Just know that it's better to explain your reasons than just say it bluntly, otherwise, you're going to look really foolish.

First of all, The Beatles are the greatest band of all time. Why? They made amazing music in nearly every genre, they created new sounds never heard before, they used new techniques never used before, they had more charisma than any celebrity today and they were the most influential band ever. Listen to music from the 50's and even what some people were putting out in the 60's. Then The Beatles came along and changed everything. You listen to any modern song and you will see that it sounds more like The Beatles than say Elvis or Frank Sinatra or any other famous artist that was before them.
Now onto the game. Opening title video was epic. There is no other word for it. It looks beautiful and it is truly mind blowing. As for the game itself, I've never really been a fan of Rockband or Guitar Hero but I am loving playing this. It's simple and fun and the graphics are pretty cool.
The major problem with the game is the song selection. There is only 45 songs!!! And some of them are the insignificant songs in The Beatles category.
The saddest part is that the major songs Hey Jude, Let it Be, Across the Universe, A Day in the Life, Yesterday, Love Me Do, In My Life, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Here Comes The Sun and Help are not in this game. Those are The Beatles most popular songs. If someone who knows nothing about The Beatles plays this game they will not truly understand the quality of The Beatles. The will still enjoy it, but they will definitely miss out.
As for the limited edition equipment. The drums are probably not worth the money but the Hafner bass is pretty cool. It looks better than the stock guitars from guitar hero. As for Lennons and Harrisons guitars, I haven't seen them up close but they look decent from pictures.
The game is pretty amazing and definitely worth the money, but expect to pay more for the rest of songs once they are released.
Still the closest thing you can get to a live concert by John, Paul, George and Ringo!

Okay, I can respect a comment like that. I can respect you now. Now your acting like a gentlemen, or lady ( no ofense either way). Take this much from the Beatles: Have Class.

The Beatles are classic rock and I don't really like them either but they're good band and they deserve respect now there not the greatest band to my opinion they're not even the best band from the 60s I have to give that to the doors to her beloved and good. And personally I'll give the game a chance if I can rent it
[quote=jnywest
Here in Poland, we never got Rock Band or Rock Band 2, but we got The Beatles.
Only that the game is being sold without any instruments. Yay for the twat that
thought that would be a good idea...
Wow, that's ridiculous.
Your review makes me want this game. Wacky Yellow Submarine animation rendered in 3D could be enough to cause some serious headsplosions B)

09.17.2009 - 11:13 | TheorendilSame as the rest of Europe mate... Only the UK gets them, i don't know why, it's perhaps the most retarted business strategy i've heard in my life! However you CAN use Guitar Hero controllers! So i guess Harmonix and EA want Activision and Red Octane to get the instrument money... They must be really nice people!

09.17.2009 - 01:30 | HimThis game seems really iffy to me.
For the people who have a game console and rock band instruments, they'll most likely be assumptions pop culture sheeple who won't like the music for conformist reasons without any genuine back-up.
For the portion of people who do appreciate the beatles, they'll probably not have a game console. For the tiny amount of people left, I think they'll be disappointed from the tiny song selection in comparison to how many songs there actually are.
Overall, the concept of the game seems great but I feel kind of let down from the non-awesomness of this. I'd rather just play guitar hero then sit down and listen to some of their music on my computer instead of paying for a whole new game.

None of them had a rocking mustache or ran around the stage with a broken microphone stand. :P

09.17.2009 - 04:47 | white_rotten_rabbitThe aspect ratio is wrong. Do you notice how the stars in the upper right corner are enclosed in ellipses instead of circles?
Why do people keep messing up the aspect ratio? Please let me know, if you know the reasons.

09.17.2009 - 04:54 | schmidtmanI'm gonna wait, when the DLC is ready. Maybe when the price is lower. I really like the Beatles, but 45 songs isn't a lot, so I wait on DLC.
Thanks Sage!

(I'm not going to do a re re reply but just know I'm the guy everyone is complaining about)
I can respect why people like them and even why they were so popular back in the day. Sure they were pretty different for their time, but they didn't do nearly enough for rock and roll as Elvis did. They more influenced pop music of the time. To me they're like the 60's version of Jason Mraz (not that his music is influencial).
And I know my argument about the speed of their music is weak, but when almost every song of theirs sounds like a ballad, it makes it hard for me to call them a rock band. I swear Hey Jude (which is my all time least favorite Beatles song) drags on and on even though it could be sped up. If you look at alot of great bands and some of their ballad like songs, most of them at least pick up the tempo half way through (Behind Blue Eyes, Stairway to Heaven, Freebird).
I'll respect your reasons to like them, if you respect the reasons why they make my brain implode everytime I hear them. Now, Rockband, start working on The Who.

09.17.2009 - 14:19 | Haman KarnI registered simply to reply to a Beatles thread. XD Your comments on The Beatles are interesting, because it illustrates how little people know of the impact The Beatles had. Here are a few things they brought about:
1) A shift from U.S. to U.K. bands
2) The album became more important than the single (The Beatles rarely incorporated singles into any of their albums)
3) The promotional films for "Rain" (1966) incorporated techniques previously seen only in experimental films at the time, such as reverse film and slow motion
4) Having band members serve as singer-songwriters (although others had done it, The Beatles made it standard)
5) Experimentation with recording techniques now commonly used today (such as guitar feedback, artificial double tracking and holding the microphone close to an instrument)
I'm sure there are others, but this should show how influential they were.

09.17.2009 - 09:23 | TheorendilFirst of all, Bennet you sounded a bit pissed off in your GH 5 review because sometimes your guitar controller plays the part of other instruments, like pianos and such, to cover large portions of the song that don't have any guitar in them, however, the exact same thing happens in Beatles Rock Band, with the guitar sometimes controlling string arrangements and the drums playing bongos or other percussion instruments, yet you didin't even mention it in your review... I wonder, did your dislike for GH 5's track list make your opinion a bit biased? Anyway, just a minor complaint there, other than that your RB review was great...
Time for a little rant... I was thinking of boycotting Rock Band, but the fact that While my Guitar Gently weeps is in Beatles Rockband, may make me change my mind... What's my problem with RB you ask? The way they treat Europe! I don't know if Sony or EA are to blame, but unless you ACTUALLY live in the UK, you don't get any DLC! You see Sony has at least 6 PS Stores in Europe (UK, German, Spanish, French, Italian and one for the rest of Europe, there may be more)and only the UK store gets DLC for any Rock Band ganme, including Unplugged and i'm guessing Beatles as well! Now you may say, "well make a UK account, you idiot!" Good, thought, problem is, you have to have a credit card issued by a UK based bank! Not even virtual cards work anymore! So the UK gets the whole shebang while the rest of Europe gets absolutely nothing... To understand how absurd this is, it would be like Sony having an East Coast and a West Coast PS Store in the US (perhaps they do, i don't know how the US PS Store works) and DLC being available only in the East Coast one... This may be one of the reasons you guys disliked GH5 so much, most of the songs and artists, like the Arctic Monkeys and Kaiser Chiefs, are really big in Europe and not so in the US... No shop here in Greece sells the main Rock Band games and the instruments (although they do sell Beatles RB, they're not stupid enough to not milk this cash cow!) and even on amazon, they're hard to come by (once again, except from Beatles) and judging from Yahtzee, they treat Australia the same way, if not worse! I think that Activision and EA have sort of split the world into two markets, Rock Band gets the US and GH gets Europe, i have no other explanation... Sorry if this is too long, i had to blow some steam lol!

09.17.2009 - 11:09 | TheorendilWell there is one reason, not standing there with your guitar hanging around your neck till the guitar part starts! It was a common complaint with GH World Tour... In Hotel California for example the drummer doesn't start playing till about a minute into the song...
In fact i don't see why you say that this thing is forgivable in one game and not in the other... Why does it matter that GH doesn't limit itself to one band? If some Beatles songs don't contain much of the instruments you're supposed to be playing, then perhaps they shouldn't have been included! But then the fans would be complaining... What is unacceptable for GH should also be unacceptable for RB too, Beatles or not... They're basically the same game after all, as far as gameplay mechanics are concerned anyway...
Sorry about this and i don't want to sound like a GH fanboy, in fact i'm addicted to Rock Band Unplugged, i'll probably buy Bratles RB and i really would like to buy Rock Band 2 but i can't because of the lack of DLC that i mentioned on the previous post. I just think that you were WAY too hard on GH 5! Although you praised the mechanics, you said that it was one of the most disappointing games of the year, because it didn't conform to YOUR idea of what kind of music should be included in a GH game and your music preferences in general... I just think that a simple: "check out the setlist before buying" would've been sufficient and in fact it's what EVERY reviewer says when it comes to reviewing music games! If the mechanics are OK, then it's a good game, if you don't like the music, then it's your problem! That's what i think anyways...

09.17.2009 - 15:02 | Bennett the Sage
True, the mechanics were the best they have been in a long time, but the songs chosen were just poor. If people were complaining about doing nothing during a song, then maybe that song shouldn't be in the game. Having good songs to play is only a part of the game's charm, it's also the intricacies of the notes you have to play and the challenges it presents. GH5 not only had bad songs (in my opinion), but they were boring songs to play. The one thing that they had over Beatles: RB was that they didn't have to restrict themselves to one band, they could have any song they wanted, but they chose poorly.
The graphics, from what I have seen, are just outstanding. I almost fainted!!
However, my opinon if probably very biased, seeing how much of a fangirl I am for them. Still, I cannot wait until Christmas, and thankfully there are 4 kids in my family, and we are buying all 4 insruments. ;)
