NOTE: I didn't cover the online multiplayer included with Wolfenstein because of technical difficulties with connecting to a host. Please excuse it's absence from the review.

Wolfenstein may have been awesome back in the day but with the whole slew of WW2 games that followed it, the uniqueness of the concept must have diminished quite a bit. Some people of the new generation probably just looked at this and called it a rip-off of the other WW2 FPSs out there even though they were inspired by Wolfenstein 3D.
Funny how things work, ain't it?

We will be cruel to the Germans and through our cruelty they will know who we are. They will find the evidence of our cruelty in the disemboweled, dismembered, disfigured bodies their brothers we leave behind us and the Germans will not be able to help themselves from imagining the cruelty their brothers endured at our hands, at our boot heels, and the edge of our knives. And the Germans will be sicken by us, the Germans will talk about us and the Germans will fear us. Nazis ain't got no humanity! They need to be destroyed. Each and every man under my command owns me one hundred Nazi scalps... and I want my scalps!

Unless I miss my guess, someone went to the theaters recently... :)

Yes I got to admit there's something that the game lacks. I wouldn't criticize the graphics because they look pretty good and at least comparing to other new engines, it's stable and it doesn't have memory leaks. On my PC a level loads in 2-3 seconds and that for me is impressive seeing that other games this generation have major memory leaks. The gunplay isn't nothing to write about but maybe that's the idea that you shouldn't be a walking Terminator without the Thule Medallion. The most annoying part I think it's the checkpoint system that you'll find that you kill 3 or 4 battalion's of soldiers than you get killed and you have to do the killing again. At least they could have automatically saved every time you got a treasure, but no you have to find those again when dying. Oh and another thing that I have to criticize is the fact that bodies disappear. Like a reviewer said In Wolfenstein 3D you use the bodies left behind as bread crumbs. At least there was an in-game joke when to rebels killed an Nazi and when one said they should get rid of the body the other one said to let it there because bodies have a way to disappear this last days. If you want mindless Nazi and Mystical killing than this is your game, if you want realistic and tactical WWII gameplay than play World at War.

There are a lot of FPS out there. If you think about it, all they did was use a very similar engine (COD perhaps) and slapped on the name Wolfenstein.
The FPS genre is one of the easiest ways to make a quick buck. FPS fans just cobble it up like a turkey dinner. It's also a show off for graphics and simple game mechanics.

very very good review, kind of helped me decide whether or not to get it. funny how the "stg" and the "mp" class's was used in this game as well as CoD:WaW (i know it was used in wwII but when i saw it in cod i thought it was just for the game, nice seeing the old guns back again in a new game)
i will def. rent it for what you reviewed doesnt allow me to actually buy it. again good review 5/5

I don't know why so many people are harsh on this game. I think some of the consolized aspects are poor, and the story sucks along with the A.I. but I ultimately forgot about all that because I was having fun. It reminded me of the good old days, and it also reminded me of a time when people actually worked on a single player campaign. I guess I'm biased because I've been a Wolfenstein fan since the original Castle Wolfenstein on Apple ][ and I'm dedicated to ID and Raven, but I don't think people are being fair.
Still love yah Bennet, good review.

Yea, I've had about enough with "realistic" WW2-Shooters around the time Call of Duty 2 came out.
When they first announced this one I was kinda hoping they'd return to the comic-book-style approach of the original W3D, but as it is, this one looks REALLY boring :/

I can't help but think that the more lifelike and realisticly rendered characters become in games, the possibility (and, indeed, the probability) of gamers getting turned off by this will be.
Maybe it's just me

08.24.2009 - 10:26 | ender140a good game, but really nothing more. to shoot and forget.
and the pronounciation of blazkowicz should be blazkovich, not blascovitz (underline is the accent). stupid game makers.

01.04.2010 - 15:16 | Dark Wizard MonkeyMy biggest complaint is the voice acting. They didn't do a very good job getting voice actors. They didn't get Tony Jay to voice the role of The Director. The voice actor in this one sounds like he's on his deathbed.
My other biggest complaint is how they transformed Deathshead from sadistic Nazi scientist into a believer in the supernatural. In the last game, Deathshead was a sceptic, which set him apart from all the other main villians in the story. He was unique in his own way. In this game, he just another flat character with no character depth.
On the upside, the graphics are impressive, the story is original, and you get to upgrade your weapons. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give this game a 7 or 8.
