The girls who pose as goths, the ones you're referring to, are generally referred to as Scene Girls, or Scenesters now. I agree. Last year when I was still in school, I was the only goth left. The Secenesters had taken over. Well, them, and the stoner jocks.

I used to think it was dark cloths and makeup, but since mega corporation stores like Hot Topic are around, that sell those things, is it something else now?

They're a mixture: backed by huge corporations or emo bands. Good Charlotte is really a punk-rock band, recently turned more new wave revival, how do they have anything to do with Goths?

Yeah, she mentions My Chemical Romance a lot, which is basically just theatrical rock. (It's rock music with over-the-top background instruments, sound effects, etc.) while their early work was just a gothic twist on punk rock.

As Redrally said, Good Charlotte is just punk rock that went mainstream and now they actually have the nerve to call themselves "emo". I still remember the interview where the one guy was like, "Yeah, you know, emotional rock. Like....crying while jamming on the guitar".

This fanfic also mentions Slipknot which is just a popular metal band. They're alright.


What is gothic? Well, I guess it could be assosiated with the dark clothes. For the most part, its the type of music and clothing. These "scene girls" take what was "goth" and become overly happy, obnoxious, slutty girls who wear kinda goth looking clothes with lots of stripes, and bright neon colors. Its really a hideous thing to watch. But, in my local Hot Topic, I can see those girls wandering around. Oh well, at least the people who work at that store know what goth is and isn't.

Now see, I always thought "gothic" to be a kind of atmosphere or mood. In the way you could have gothic architecture or decor, or how there are 'gothic' stories (Frankenstein and Edgar Allen Poe fall under these categories in literature).

I don't quite get the hate for gothic. It's a legitimate choice for expressing individuality, etc.. I suppose that it's more a hatred for the people who take things "too far", to the point of being rabid, that causes disagreement.

Goth is so dead, that even the act of declaring that goth is dead is out of fashion. Twice. :huh: Allways a delightful pain to watch Sage, great job.

OK, since I won't have long, since I'm sure Marty's going to be wondering where he parked the DeLorean, I'll do this quick. This was the absolute worst anal rape of literature ever. Nothing is as bad as My Immortal... NOTHING. This makes Twilight and Harry Potter stand as equals, both looking at what happens when you combine the fandom of the two franchises together.

And truly, I feel sorry for all of the Twilight and Harry Potter fans, as well as Goths, Satanists, Hot Topic frequents, MCR fans, Marilyn Manson fans, etc. for having their collective works gathered and raped by this fanfiction. No matter what sins or idioticy we've had to endure from the other, we should all stand together and acknowledge that this is the true evil of the world. Tara goes up alongside Uwe Boll and EA as one of the things that Channel Awesome, as well as the other greats of the Internet will one day rise against and utterly obliterate, freeing the entertainment industry to good stuff.

... And to please all Twilight haters, Stephanie Meyer is dripping pretty close to that line of joining those three. If she DOES release that series telling the tale from Edward's perspective, she goes right up there.
