Sheesh, Elfen Lied has NOTHING on Genocyber. Its gore is rather tame compared to this. I mean... a vivisection? Really? But I think the worst thing about this series is that it got away with a 13+ rating here in the States. What made them think that was a great idea? "Oh, teenage boys love their senseless violence. Why the hell not?"
I sense it's going to get worse from here. If TV Tropes is anything to go by.

If I had to choose, I would probably pick Elfen Lied over Genocyber. At least Elfen Lied had a interesting non-boring story.
Um....what is the wrong with Violence Jack, is there something about the characters in there you are not telling some of us Sage, paricularly those who have not heard of it before?
Oh god, they are worse than Angel Cop aren't they? Tell me, I can take it!

If you must know, Violence Jack is one of the most violent (no pun intended), nihilistic, hate filled animes ever made and features a shit tone of terrible things happening to people, like slow dismemberment by chainsaw and rape...a lot of rape in fact. Plus, there's a scene in one of the episodes where a guy eats the head of his dead lover and goes feral. It's all pretty fucked up.

10.15.2012 - 00:17 | cannedfuryHey don't lie like that. Apocalypse Zero is a high school comedy that takes place in a wacky post apocalyptic setting. :3 The cast is hilarious and the toothbrush guy is classic =^.^=
ladydiskette needs to watch Apocalypse Zero ^_^ The part where they're running from the fat girl because they don't want to be kissed is hilarious omg XD

10.14.2012 - 18:02 | GeneralDoPandaNice review. Even though I kind of have a place for Genocyber within my heart, I admit it's nothing but a gorefest at best.
As for the PG-13 issue, believe it or not things were kind of worse here in Brazil.
I actually came to know it when I was only 8 years old. How? Well, it wasn't that difficult since it was AIRED IN AN OPEN TV CHANNEL, IN THE AFTERNOON. Yeah, things used to be pretty chaotic here.

...ugh, I am speechless, I don't know what to say about this stupidity.
Great review as always Sage, can't wait for more. As for a possible review I would like to see, I really want you to team up with Maven of the Eventide (in a similar fashion as your team ups with JesuOtaku) for a review of Dance in the Vampire Bund (uncensored).

When I saw Genocyber on your upcoming reviews I made the mistake of watching the first two episodes. Those weren't bullies, they were exaggerations resembling nothing even remotely human.
I honestly thought the bullies from Stephen King's "IT" were unbelievably irredeemable. However, the moment the bully pulled his pants down just to sexually assault the little boy had me grinding my teeth. Not at the bully, but the HORRIBLE writing that attempted to manipulate the viewer.
Genocyber can burn in hell.

10.15.2012 - 02:12 | MalchikI just watched the first episode on Youtube. The scene was about three seconds of fondling. You can turn your attention when the situation occurs as it's pretty obvious before it happens.

It's plausible that Genocyber borrowed from Akira, as the manga for Akira predates this movie by 2 years. The problem with both movies is trying to compact a series into a movie's time limitations.
It only goes two ways with directors; Either you started off as a genius & lost your touch (Lucas, Romero, Burton, Craven) or your career followed the plot of Battle Angel Alita; rising from the dumps to the big golden city in the sky.
::Looks up director:: Ooh! He did Gunbuster & Saiyuki Reload: Burial. Those were good. I grew up with a lot of this stuff. I think Viz & Manga Corps had a hard-on for his gorefests.
Ahahaha, the Snickers joke was great.

What's interesting is the perception that child rape (or any kind of rape, really) is worse than murder and genocide. We react much more squeamishly to rape. Why is that? Is it because rape feels more "real" and grounded to us? Do we think people are more likely to emulate rape than murder? Can we identify more with psychological scarring than physical extermination? Is it just because we evolved the mindset to protect women and children's way of life over anyone's actual death (the idea being a raped person is still salvageable while a dead person is gone)?
Whatever the case, it's definitely more psychological than objective. This isn't a bash against Bennett; it's just an observation, and most of us share this kind of mindset. However, in Bennett's case, the reactions to these kinds of scenes are more emotional and less cerebral...less sagely. Again, that's not a bad thing, as it's human nature. It just kind of makes the sage title a misnomer.

LOL, complaining, huh? Sure, spin it however you like. I don't recall complaining, myself. "Navel-gazing faux-objective idiots" (whatever that's supposed to mean) like me obviously don't bore the fuck out of you, considering how worked up you got over it. I also gotta love that little strawman fallacy you threw in at the end about NOT thinking that child rape is reprehensible, because that's never a view I shared and you know it.

I saw the commercial for it and i was violence yay i want it but never got to see it.
Also Child rape..what....i guess let me goo all devil's advocate here maybe with a more competent writer yea it would work to show how cruel things are but maybe not show it on screen....to make worse i don't know its not good tool to use unless done right and its hardly ever done right
Also there's more! it looked like it was done by that ending! holy crap
Also violence jack....another one i wanted to see....im guessing i was spared and watched guyver instead much better =D i got the violence and no rape of children......i think i don't remember if there was any.
Also good job sir XD i loved teh snickers joke that scene looked like it was taken out of hellraiser.
Oh barf he did 2003 fullmetal ...woof i hated that series it was hateful and ...just sad and not in a good way also ended horribly in my opinion brotherhood has a much more uplifting and sad in a good way story

I got the Genocyber Collection off of Netflix awhile back... And made the mistake of watching it in its entirety... in one sitting... whilst half asleep... That was a really, REALLY bad fucking idea.
If you think what your seeing here in Sage's review is awful beyond human comprehension, it is in fact about a hundred times worse then that. I'd sooner make someone look at goatse then make them watch this.
