    Obligitory "First!" comment!

In all seriousness, I thought this was about GTO when I first saw the name.

Was it normal that my reaction to most of the scenes shown in this review were essentially me quietly asking myself, "...the hell?" while staring at my computer screen in a state of confusion, right? Please tell me that ia normal.

I almost want to seek this one out now just to see if there is any context or sense at all to be gleamed from it.

Don't worry, at least 4 or 5 AAs have been exactly like that experience.

Edit: After more thoroughly watching the review...

    I agree.

    Akira is your most requested?

    M.D.GEIST FUKKEN WHERE

I got to agree, I've been wanting MD Geist since the Garzey's wing crossover with Spoony. Besides, it has the great distinction of being one of the worst animes of all time (especially when 1+2 are watched back-to-back (seriously, my anime club did this and people had to leave because of physical pain caused by the two ovas)). But it's also funny as hell if you think of Geist, not as a normal protagonist but as an internet troll who was given super-powers (Seriously, the movies make a lot more sense if you think of him that way)

I've been requesting Vampire Hunter D and Akira for awhile!

What the fuck did I just watch? Also, Doug is right, you're damn sexy!
  • Fanofyou

    That was Rob
  • Vismutti

No, it was Doug. Rob just laughed.
  • Sewblon
    avatar
I am pretty sure that it was Rob, just shaved.
  • EpicFish
    avatar
No, Doug was the one to peer out from the corner of the camera (since he was filming) and told Sage he found him sexy. Rob is clearly shaved (while Doug wasn't) and standing in front of the camera laughing at the "sex appeal" joke.

As for this anime...I don't know, I genuinely laughed a few times at it. I might enjoy it.

I have horrible facial recognition, I have a hard time telling Rob & Linkara apart. The first time James Rolfe took off his glasses & had stubble, I wasn't sure it was him for half the video.

    That anime... Wow.
  • Ichi
I want to see you do a review of gantz, that's one of my fav anime's
the problem I had with that anime though was gthat I thought they did it too early considering they had to give it a made-for-the-anime ending seeing as Gantz is still an ongoing manga
but does that belong on anime abandon? is abandon just for bad anime?
anyways I see it on your shelf so I thought it would be cool ^_^

While sage does review both good and bad anime I believe he only reviews anime up to the year 2000 and the Gantz anime came out in 2004.

If Japan got 10 yen for every time someone asked it WTF, then there's nothing it couldn't afford.

Never watched the dubbed and thank Jesus for that. Good lord that was painful to watch, and that was just a clipshow review. No, I watched the original Japanese subbed version, which is far superior, and honestly, I loved it. It's one of my retro favs.

  • Appellation
Apparently, the video I have is a VERY different dub. Good review. :)
  • FunkyM
    avatar
    Oh. My. God.

It's quite possible that the UK received an entirely Different Dub. Still, if the visuals are anything to go by, I doubt it did much to mitigate this OVA freakiness.

Anyways, Bad form for next week, I'm doing Akira in 2 weeks! I'm onto you, Sage...

Akira is up next? Ah Christ, im gonna get SO MUCH HATE for my own thoughts on it when the review is out. And if GITS is any indication, Sage will probably have a similar opinion.

Spoony actually reviewed Akira. I am not saying you shouldn't review it, because I do not believe in reviewers dibs, but maybe you could bring him in to co-review it. He did a text review of it on his site.
  • LikaLaruku

    Spooning with Bennett.

$5 says he's already finished reviewing Akira & is already in the process of editing it. Meanwhile Spoony is overloaded with stuff to do.
  • PlayMp1
    avatar
I'd say it's a fair bit easier to review a feature-length OVA than it is to review a 100 hour RPG like FFXIII (which I think is the next in his FF series) or a lengthy CRPG like Ultima IX (especially with how buggy and unstable it is).

One takes a couple hours to sit down and force yourself through, then a few days to chop up, edit and write a review. The other takes days and weeks of playing and recording, then writing, scripting and, since most of Spoony's storylines take place in FF reviews, figuring out a story and shooting the associated scenes. Spoony kinda fucked himself over by deciding to do all of his characters himself - at least for Linkara, who also does storylines and plays a number of characters with just himself filling those roles, his media is only at most an hour or maybe two hours long.

In all those crotch shots were the crotches actually meant to be naked and the underwear wasn't really there?

Like the underwear was acting as some kind of censor box and it wasn't visible to the characters?

I think that's the only way those reactions would make sense.

For some reason, as soon as I heard "Power On!" during that microwave-sceen, I laughed so hard that I spat soup all over my monitor.

Thanks, Sage. It took me almost ten minutes to clean everything up.

Well there's 2 things I hated; Furi-Kuri (I hate Gainax endings) & the last episode of Excel Saga (because of that one out-of-character scene that male fans love so much).

    3:40 Oh hai Captain Harlock.

Why is there a statue of Siva in the classroom?

    6:03 Oh hai Ukyou Kuonji.

Simple question: What color are your panties?
Simple answer: 300 pairs of blue Maneki Neko PE hotpants.

Isn't "Ultimate Muscle" supposed to be as weird as this? & maybe Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, Green Ran, & possibly Toriko, & um....Psychodiver?

I've seen Akira at least 6 times in my life & I still don't know wtf is going on in that movie.

What the hell was I just watching Oo ?

At least now we can be assured that Skynet will never take over the world. All we have to do is show it this anime.

Heh just recently finished watching Excell Saga with a friend.

We've not laughed so hard in a long while.

Sadly another anime I own on VHS (along with Junkboy) that I regret purchasing.

So awesome, seriously, I wanted to see the whole dang thing played while Sage and company sat around watching it, lol..

I lost it when Rob reached out of frame for the huge container of popcorn :)

Nice review, I haven't seen this anime but it looks like there's not much else that can be done with it.

    XD

I doubt it, but perhaps the skeletons in the walls is a nod to the "wild decades" of Japan. Here in Eastern Europe and in Russia, the decade after the collapse of the Soviet Union is called The Wild 90s, because of the explosion of organized crime that followed — they are STILL finding skeletons in foundations, walls, forests and ponds.

Still, can't wait to see how you take on Akira...!
