If he were to do Contra, he'd have to do it without the Konami Code. The simple fact that the code even exist negates any true difficulty the game may have. Thirty lives allows a gamer of average skill to beat the game by trudging through and being patient considering that if you get a Game Over, you start on the same stage with all thirty lives. Granted, if we were living in the late eighties, which I did, I could understand why people think Contra is hard. But this is 2011. Video games are a large part of our culture and the Konami Code is an infamous part of it. Playing the game without the code is now a self-imposed limitation. We are no longer forced to play Contra at an astronomical difficulty setting.

02.12.2011 - 09:06 | Chunkie HomieHe could do a non-cheating guide, like every other time. A better reason not to do Contra is that its already well-known. Also, please be more concise. I had trouble following.

Beat it 2 months ago. It's sometimes kinda frustrating, but never too hard.

02.10.2011 - 11:17 | GozarI thought Metroid had the best endings. I liked when she used to strip down to her red bra and panties at the end. It was so worth it. hahahaha.
I wonder why she doesn't do that anymore :(

It sure took time from this video to arrive in this site, great to see UWW back on TGWTG.
This awesome game haunted my childhood (i.e. kicked my ass). I don't think i ever got that far in it, but i still played the shit out of it. Music is friggin' golden in Guardian Legend, it's the first thing that i always remember about it.. besides eyeballs. Check out Aqua Sector Corridor -theme from Youknowwhere, and you know what i'm talking about.

Guardian Legend is possibly the most underrated game of all time.
The shot speed increasing item eventually allows you to fire faster than physically possible with a turbo controller - once per frame. Also once you obtain enough of them, you can walk through the seams in 1-block thick vertically-aligned walls.
Guardian Legend didn't have a sequel, it was a sequel. There's a Japan-only MSX game called Guardic that has very loose gameplay ties with TGL.
Edit: It appears my recollection was a little off, since against bosses your damage is actually capped at 5 damage/hit. This means that keeping a boss in the damage zone is far more important than individual hit strength.
The Sabre is absolutely amazing, since it basically insta-kills any regular enemy (since it does ludicrous damage) and it is very, very easy to keep many bosses in its damage zone if you follow their pattern. It also destroys most projectiles before they become an issue.
I seem to remember most sources referring to the final boss as "It", not "the Final Guardian". The Twin Seekers actually work quite well on him, if memory serves.
The Side Wave Cannon and sideways-thrown Grenades do naughty things to Eyegore.
Some overworld bosses (most notably the plant and crystal) are actually much harder than the vast majority of "real" bosses.
You can (and should) multi-tap the Enemy Erasers since they register enemy/projectile kills multiple times (and thus give drops sooner).
The Blue Optimon and both Grimgrins are the hardest bosses in the game, not only because of inherent difficulty, but also when you fight them with regards to powerups.
No mention of unlocking corridors? A lot of people get stuck on those.
While the Rotating Shot is certainly better than generally accepted, it's not as good as this video makes it out to be. Damagewise, it is harder to keep most bosses in its blast radius than the Saber and Fireball in my experience. Removing projectilewise, it doesn't generally work as well as stuff like the Side Wavecannon, Bullet Shield, and most significantly the Enemy Eraser. It's a nice compromise, but it isn't some end-all, be-all weapon.

02.10.2011 - 06:33 | php101Old games are just crazy. Legend of Zelda seems to have all bosses with eyeballs. Everywhere.
How to beat a Zelda boss? Aim for the eye(s)! (except in certain special cases). Just a thought.

02.10.2011 - 06:45 | BastardAgainst first three bosses the laser sword is the best weapon. Mostly you can just stand still and shoot as you have your sword pointed towards.
Against those laser beam robots that shoots missiles at you and looses their peak, sideward laser swords is the best way to go.
As for final boss, the homing attack is your best friend against him. Just go in to a upper left corner and collect powerups if needed.

Now that game deserves a spot for being one of the greatest games on NES. ;)
Took me bloody 3 years of playing when I was younger to beat it. Even after SNES got released...
