I think Jason addressed your point when he called it a diamond in the rough. He isn't saying it is amazing but it really doesn't deserve it's reputation as being terrible by any stretch of the imagination. Talking to some people you'd think this was Daikatana or something.

hehe openly disagreeing with the nerd. Let the shitstorm start :)
Honestly though. I still loved this game. Even managed to finish it (thanks to my dad).
I would have liked if you could have shown a little bit about the insides of the houses though (and something about the location of the health tanks :)

I beat this game as a kid, but I didn't like it anyway.
Hope you'll torture yourself with Gremlins 2 next time, hehe. That's a game I liked and hated at the same time.

Seriously, that commercial is starting to turn me off watching videos. Can they not at least put up a different fricking commercial. Now on to what I thought of the video.
Good combination of a walk-through and a review. I always hate it when people rate a game down because they can't beat it. No such thing as a game that's to hard.
That ending was something special, apparently all those people had an advanced case of leprosy and high speed regeneration abilities.

10.02.2010 - 00:42 | AntimatzistAwesome! Looking forward to the other games. I was always hoping for a new UWW Video and looked for it everyday on this site. Was nice to watch for breakfast, thanks ;)
... and I LOVE it when you beat games the Nerd was shitting on, haha :D

I noticed you were using a turbo controller. This game is so much simpler with rapid fire. I want to see somebody beat this game with blistered thumbs. It is sadistic how hard it is to fight off respawning slime with only the speed of your thumb.
I do love this game. Maybe because it was only the third NES game I owned - IDK. My parents had a tendency to buy us kids Sunsoft games for some reason during the holidays.
It's a good UWW, but you should really mention to the viewers exactly what cheats you are using (like turbo pads). It's fine that you use them, but if viewers don't know that, then they will just get frustrated when they play the game, and won't know why they can't fight bosses and slimes in the same manner that you portray.

10.02.2010 - 01:02 | 007italianguyMan, this game was a pain, I don't think I made it past the 4th boss, but that was when I was a kid. Haven't played it since...

The reason people on the net put down Fester's Quest is because of the AVGN, this whole fucking sheep mentality that if the AVGN says it sucks, it must be bad.
Same why people say Ghostbusters on the Genesis sucks, when it's fucking awesome. (the master system version is pretty decent too, he couldn't even figure out the controls) so James does have a lot of explaining to unfairly bash decent games, bordering on Irate Gamer researching.
PS I so longed for this game as a kid, but Sunsoft made their games uber expensive in the UK, like £70 each (around $130)

I thought AVGN said kudos to the Genesis Ghostbusters.

10.03.2010 - 03:23 | SetzyTBNot all of us think it's a bad game because of him. My family owned this game when I was a kid. We never beat it. I found it too hard and didn't like it.

10.02.2010 - 02:01 | Thumper17So, what exactly is that number in the corner of LordKats video? His cellphone? Ballsy to have that so public if it is.
-
10.02.2010 - 10:45 | CageAquariumYeah, I think it is his number. If you go to LordKat's website he is almost always streaming himself talking to fans, answering questions, or simply gaming and showing off new stuff to his fans. He is probably one of the most approachable contributors on this website. It is pretty ballsy, I will give it that.
-
10.02.2010 - 02:02 | HamsterManWow, after watching this I have no idea how I was able to beat all the bosses as a kid.
But indeed, Fester's Quest is a totally underrated game. The music is awesome as well.

He did at the beginning, then started nit picking at really insignificant bits of the game, and a game just has to be mentioned by him now before the sheep brand it as "crappy".
Hell on the GameTrailers forums, they're calling Ninja Gaiden on the NES crap now because it was in a video of his.
-
10.02.2010 - 11:58 | Sheeyah
People do that with all internet videos. You'll see a lot of comments that simply restate what the author said as why they agree with them. Some actually do agree, I'm sure, but still...
Also, videos from AVGN, NC and other critics are done for entertainment. If they didn't go over the top it wouldn't be nearly as fun to watch.

Yeah, I watched it again and you're right. He does tend to rag on the game after his initial awe. It pisses me off a little bit that people are against Ninja Gaiden because of the Nerd. He obvious doesn't hate all of these games, as some of them are just "old school cheap." He went to the trouble of making a follow up video where he beat the game, so he was obviously playing a game that was more frustrating than bad.

You should have a look it's Super Nintendo spiritual sequel sequel sometime Jason, "Addams Family Values".
Yeah it's based on the movie, but it feels more like a sequel to Fester's Quest.
I wonder if this was originally some obscure Japanese game before they slapped the Addams Family license on it though?
-
10.02.2010 - 04:26 | OnionYou missed a few things. The noose is obtained from a house. You get it from Grandma Addams right after the shield gun boss.
Some bosses can best be hit with a full powered whip.
You can use invisibility with EVERY boss and just wail away on him. Add a turbo controller and a boss takes no more than 10 seconds.
The health powerups are in dead ends in the pre-boss mazes. There are two as far as I know, one in each odd colored maze. (there's an orange-gray maze and a green-gray maze, normally the mazes are gray-gray color combos). Just run into dead ends and try to walk through the walls.
ps. Did anyone ever do a let's play of the 'Addams Family' game on NES? That thing is hard as nails.
-
10.02.2010 - 07:15 | tootiredHe also missed the secret house that had the Adams Family theme played with the moose antlers going up and down.

I find it funny that you said TNT wasn't really useful at the beginning and then you mentioned it twice to take out the green slimes and the metroids with legs I think.
This also would be more interesting if it wasn't some kind of tutorial but just you beating the game...
And what happened to the "no save states" rule? Not written anymore, do you use them now? Ah!

Why is it people are bashing on the video game nerd? Uh, he makes those videos for entertainment, Lord Kat does something completely different, which I love as well... I have never let any one's review of any game change how I felt about it so if people don't like a game because someone else said so, then they are wankers to begin with, the video game nerd takes problems with games and exacerbates them for entertainments sake, he is not the go to source for games you should play or not...

The bashing is due to the idiotic followers who don't realize he is making an entertainment video not an objective critque. He often over exagerates things or lies about them if they make for a funnier in his view video. He admits he is often making a good or decent game look to be crap if it is funny.
This same sheeple mentality also goes to people who watch yahztee.
i think people complained about it and hate it so much due to it seems like not alot of play testing went into the game and its very very rough and pretty much under polished.
i mean good for you that you enjoyed the game, but it seems like you come off as saying
" you are all wrong"
