I do have the first three as well as the god-like fourth one, but I haven't gotten around to buying the fifth one. I wish I had the original game but I do have the PSP game, Dracula X chronicles.
My LORD is it hard, like Zelda 2 hard, Sonic Battle Adventure 2 all A's hard, or Superman 64 hard...without the broken controls.
It took me a while to figure out some tricks, for example that bastard painting, I hated it. Then I realized I had to keep my distance.
Also those damn slash attacks sucked, they had IMPOSSIBLE parts were you had to go the very edge of platform (without falling into the water below) to wake up the monsters and THEN attack them.
The remake has some similar parts so this walk through will help me tons, thanks.

The PC Engine Rondo of Blood is available for download on Wii. I got it recently and while I was expecting for it to be the all-time best Castlevania, as so many have claimed, it's better to temper your expectations that it's a really good Castlevania, worthy of being compared to the many other great Castlevania titles.
The reason being is every Castlevania fan is already likely to have a favorite.

08.06.2010 - 23:12 | sgtdeathnice vid rondo of blood is my favorite castlevania so i naturally also like dracula x but i do have one complaint and that is that you didnt fight death. in the clocktower you fight one of two bosses based on if you rescue annette u fight the skull thing or death and the death in dracula x is one of the all time coolest.

Thank you! just the UWW I needed....I have never beaten this game, always get stuck on the Grim Reaper boss :zombie: (yeah, I kinda suck at gaming).
I got the PSP version, which is great, because it came with Symphony of the night, which I unfortunately missed on its Playstation release, very cool game.

08.09.2010 - 07:44 | hellomayoThat's actually Strawbeary. :D
And when you talked about the "panther BOSS", I'm pretty sure that's Cerberus. You can't really see his other two heads, but I'm still pretty certain it is.

08.06.2010 - 23:29 | MoomooI like the idea of doing an RPG. Breath of Fire 2 maybe? Dunno if it's hard enough, but it sure kicked my ass as a kid.

I also think seeing you do an RPG will be pretty cool. There are quite a few good choices out there. Some RPGs like to be rather cruel
Nice to see you play another game that is both hard and fun. I never played Dracula X, but it sure looked pretty much as you said it was. Keep up the nice work Jason. =)

08.06.2010 - 23:38 | Camseyeviewhearing you talk about playtesting makes my life as a game tester worth it.
i am a game tester and i know how hard it is to keep playing through some areas of a game that are downright hard.
-
08.06.2010 - 23:46 | MoomooWell, I'm a level designer, and I fully know the importance of proper playtest. You guys have no idea how hard it is to judge the difficulty of something you designed yourself. Actually, about 70% of the job is watching playtests and adjusting your level accordingly. If you don't do that, you end up with shit like that Pumpkinhead game thinking the player will work it out.

Flawless timing with this video LordKat! I just got my hands on Castelvania: Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP recently. I highly doubt the same problems are going to be present in it though. But this definitely motivated me to sit down and plow through next chance I get.
You can unlock Rondo of Blood in it, but I would assume it's the PC version.
-
08.07.2010 - 00:24 | NativanonpersonOh yeah that it hard.
However I've played a harder game in my time. I played it when I was just a kid and I never made it past level three since I lost all but my last life in the other two levels. T_T
I thought when I got it again as part of a sega compilation a few months ago that it would be easier since I'm not a kid anymore.
It kicked my ass just like it did all those years ago. -_-
For me the hardest game I've ever played is 'E-SWAT cyber police'!

I have a few suggestions/requests for RPGs. I'd love to see you tackle a Final Fantasy game, either II or IV (II from "Dawn of Souls" or an NES ROM, or IV, known in America for the SNES as II). I'd also like to see "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" if you care to. There's also Chrono Trigger (I found that to be hard), and Breath of Fire, either I or II. Finally, I think it'd be fun and interesting to see you play a hard-to-find and nearly impossible-for-the-wrong- reasons start of a great series, "Revelations: Persona" for the PS1, or it's updated, slightly fixed PSP port simply called "Persona."

Oh, and just use an item crash to counter any really hard part. You're invincible, and you kill any enemies in your path. Just item crash anytime your about to get superbuttfucked by any of the supermoves. Any massive damage moves always have a blatant counter moment so just backflip it or item crash it. Just be aggressive in this game. KILL THEM FIRST.

That is what Rondo of Blood was like? Completely different from both of the PSP versions of the game. The history with the titles Dracula X and Rondo of Blood is really confusing, huh?

08.07.2010 - 02:08 | BlacksmithAh yes, Dracula X. After playing Super Castlevania, I felt frustrated that this one went back to the stiff jumping mechanics and limited whip attack of the earlier games. It is still a solid entry in the series but I'd rather let the NES ones knock me around like they're after my lunch money.
The thing about RPGs is that some of the "hard" ones really just require more level/item grinding to beat than the usual suspects. The hardest one I ever tried was 7th Saga for the SNES which was impossible to get through if you didn't spend a half hour or more in each new area simply leveling up.

08.07.2010 - 02:10 | MursaI'm just making a guess but I remember it being pretty hard, secret of evermor?

lol clocktower, but the bloody tears remix there is nice.
Though, some are more polished than others, all Castlevania = AWESOME in my book. Love the CV music, even in the SNES ver. of Dracula X.
Rhondo of Blood is probably my fav CV game. Ive had great fun with the older ones, even the ducking tornado game, but Rhondo, its simply amazing.
The older (pre-SotN) games had this classic, simplistic, awesomeness, about them. SotN required more map reading and item grabbing, as opposed to platforming skill.
btw, CV Chronicles is zomg impossible hard... no really, its die 38 times in the same spot and try again tomorrow (before you break something) hard. (on hard) I used to play it with my morning coffee, never finished it, and i wont, until i can beat it on hard. ...that may, very well, never happen.
Whats sick about Chronicles... there is actually 6 or so NG+ playthrough's that get HARDER each time you play through the game... Who or what in gods name could possibly achieve that? Backgrounds change as well on the 6th playthrough, I think. Things like bleeding statues appear n such...

Wrong. Symphony of the Night starts 5 years after Rondo of Blood. Bloodlines wouldn't take place until 120 years later.
Anyway... dang Dracula X looks difficult. I've gotten into CV only recently (Dawn of Sorrow is my first), so I'm not entirely sure how I'd fare if I played any of the pre-SOTN games. I'd probably get my ass whooped.
