Argh, I know I thought the same thing when I saw the title... But you might as well of said "First!" Shame!
Now, I never really found this game really hard. The only difficult part for me was also level 3. I just wish it had passwords. I had to get a new NES because of leaving it on for so long. Lol.

Yup. The comic was in print from 1905-1914. When the game was released, it got a nice spread on Nintendo Power that did include some of the comic panels that involved Nemo on his stilt-walking bed and a view of Slumberland.
I have the movie on VHS back when there was a cross promotion with Tropicana orange juice. I remember watching the movie and trying to figure out which level of the game was being represented. I think the mushroom forest may have been the only level not represented in the movie.
Now for the spell that would light up the Royale Sceptre: Jazama Pajama Pajama Kazama Shimera Kazam,
Kimera Kazam Imeratazam Paja-Pajad Shazama
Shazama Pajama PAJAMA!

07.10.2010 - 16:58 | Psymaster7Actually, the game is based on the movie. You see, in Japan, the movie came out in theaters before the game was even made. Capcom had the license to make a game based on the movie, and this is what they made. The movie came out here latter on VHS/DVD. Maybe someone in the marketing department didn't get the memo that the movie came first.

07.09.2010 - 22:51 | CoolclaytonyI think this game reminds me to much of Kirby. similar gameplay and a similar plot. its even got a king penguin (king Deedeedee) and a nightmare king (NME)

nice walkthrough here. This is one of the few games I really regret not having gotten to play as a kid. I now see it meets all of the expectations that I had for it.
Oh and looking foward to alien soilder. Impossible fucking game, like gunstar heroes on steroids, never even got close to beating it without save states. Still though, it's probably one of my favorite treasure games (oh who am I kidding, I love all of treasures games)
Speaking of treasure, you might want to look into dynamite heady, that was another fun, but difficult one if I remember correctly.

Man I loved that game growing up. The only level I found frustrating was the 2nd stage of Nightmare World. That cave was a pain in the ass and it took forever to get to the top due to specifically placed jumps, spikes, and those damn flofees!!! Also fun fact, in the final stage of nightmare world if you turn into the bee and use a turbo controller or use the turbo button on your emulator in the final stage you can just barely reach the high cliff that you would normally have to use the lizard to climb. This makes it so you can actually fight the final boss in bee form, which makes it a kick ass yet one sided fight, but still neat to do. Big fan of you series in general.

07.09.2010 - 23:08 | EternalNightmareAh, so you go into a Dream Land and get a variety of powers from creatures you find. Then, at the end, you get a magic staff that shoots energy balls and use it to fight a penguin king and a nightmare monster. Interesting...

07.09.2010 - 23:26 | The RPGeniusI loved Little Nemo when I was a kid. Loved the game, loved the movie, probably would have loved the comic if I'd known it existed. Thanks for making an episode about this nostalgic classic, LordKat.

07.09.2010 - 23:30 | Rexx RaulI always think it's great when you review good games (as opposed to those games that are just designed poorly), and I think of Nemo as a fantastic game overall - great gameplay, graphics, and great music. Had a lot of fun with it as a kid, and I understand what you mean about it not being as difficult as an adult. Keep 'em coming!

Two things, one there was a slight replay glitch of some sort when you were talking about the part with the gorilla in the tree, right after you got the lizard...And what's up with the right edge of the screen? I'm assuming the program you're using to record and what ever you're recording from aren't playing nice with each other.

07.10.2010 - 00:45 | Coolclaytonyim watching the movie based off this game and i must say that the princess is the most unintentionaly perverted character i've ever seen. so far from what i've seen, half this entire movie is unintentionaly perverted. i mean you've got a scean wear nemo, the princess, and one of the princesses maids are sitting on a mushroom, with no clothes on, with clouds wrapped around thier naked bodies. i mean i know it was raining in all but its a bad thing when you can make so many sexual jokes about a childs movie. BAD TOUCH! BAD TOUCH!

I think those who are saying this is similar to Kirby need to look up some dates and THEN get back to commenting.
Nemo started as a comic strip in 1905. The animated movie everyone remembers came out in 89. This game came out in 1990, two years before Kirby debuted!
-
07.10.2010 - 17:37 | EternalNightmareI wasn't trying to say that either game was a ripoff of the other one, just that there were alot of similarities. And, yeah, I know there was a comic and a movie.

07.10.2010 - 01:20 | STIntergalacticThe easiest way to get through the train level is to stand so that you're kind of straddling the back of the first train car (the one closest to the right of the screen) and the front of the middle car. The planes and the bombs won't hit you. You will have to move when the beams come down at you, but you can just move all the way to the left and you'll avoid them too. And the best thing to do with the flying squirrels in that level is not to jump over them when they come down, but to jump right before they attack because then they'll stay up high. Then when you land they fly over you.

If anyone saw the title "Little Nemo" and thought of the fish, you obviously know they weren't born in the 80's. I remember watching the Little Nemo movie and it scaring the shit out of me when i was a kid cause of that black cloud monster.
I also remember the game being incredibly difficult around the 3rd level as well.
over all it was a fun game though.
I really miss this kind of game platform, simple and tons of fun.
Thank god Nintendo is listening.
Awesome review by the way, haven't thought of Little Nemo in years, thanks for the blast from the past.
