METAL STORM! Fuck yes I loved this game as a kid! Even before the Game Genie, I remember playing this game. I did NOT STOP until I had beaten it.... or until I had to take it back to the rental store... It was all about figuring out the positioning of the bosses when fighting them.
The game is very hard. I remember spending the better half of a day playing through it just to make it to the final level, and I felt damn proud that my 7 year old self made it that far. I never did beat the game, until I later replayed it on an emulator and finally beat it, feeling that I deserved that much after remembering just how much effort I put into it when I originally played.
Now then, I think I'll watch the video now and see what LordKat has to say about it.

I hadn't heard of this game until just now. You seem to regard it highly and it definitely looks fun. If I can, I'm going to see if I can eventually get it.
Anyway, another great episode of Until We Win. This game's expert mode did seem particularly dastardly. I eagerly anticipate the next episode. :)

06.27.2010 - 02:57 | Mr.StillmanAlthough this game is a 'bit' different, I would love to see LordKat get out of his comfort zone of platformers. Maybe a race game or something...

Simple. Giant robots are to Japan what Spandex-clad superheroes are to America. That's about the long and short of it.
And you gotta admit, giant robots do seem less silly than guys in tights.

Is it just me, or is the 5-2 boss like an older version of Green from Gunstar Heroes? Constantly changing forms, dodging attacks by switching from ceiling to floor, bullets/walls you need to jump between...

06.27.2010 - 11:36 | LogamanVery few people have actually played Metalstorm, but those of us who have all agree it's easily one of the best platformers on the NES and horribly over-looked.

06.27.2010 - 21:15 | Neo Ultra MikeWell to be fair, Sonic and Knuckles Death Egg Zone Part 2 also had bits with flipping the gravity which was also seen in Sonic Adventure 2's Crazy Gadget. Not to the degree of Metal Storm but it did play with the mechanic decently well.
