This is the only game I have seen you do so far that I have beaten, but I hate that flaming wheel. That one took me more time to beat than I think it took me to beat the rest of the game.

That last stage is crazy, though. Still, it is a really fun game. Pretty underrated.

I love this game so much, too bad the sequel was no where as good.

Is it me or the ending music sound like the 20th century Fox theme?
  • Flowing Ice
Nah, it's not just you, I thought of that like right away too.

You're right, that does sound like my own personal Hell. Do level-boss designers assume we have months to memorize and play through their games, or do they just hate humanity?
  • Thumper17
Do some harder games, Genesis, SNES or N64 possibly?
  • LimeGreenSquid

This is SNES. But i agree, this game was not hard at all. Well, it was when i was a kid, and the final Snow Tree level still is hell, it is quick to learn.
I was hoping he did Actraiser 2. Now THAT game is unapologetically difficult. Makes Super Castlevania look like Actraiser 1!
  • fLESHeye
I never found this game particularily hard.. I used to play this through as a kid a few times a week.. (since we only had about ten games, almost all of them were played through on a regular basis.)

    But umm... nice video anyway!

That is exactly what I thought. :D

Cause he made them before being promoted to the firstpage, and they are posting all his older ones.

Don't forget they made Soul Blazer, another underrated classic.

When I played this game I found a little trick with him, so he would just keep going in a little circle around half the room.

Game looks awesome neever knew it was around, I do have a idea for Lordkat though...............Beyo nd Oasis for Sega.
  • tiggerpete
so how many more of these do you have ready to go, or are you doing these one a day real time?
If so, I bow to your game mastery.

    same question reworded a bit:
it seems all of the UWW eps. we have seen on here till now were probably recorded a while ago and are being uplinked on the site periodically, my question is how many more eps. are ready to go, and how many more are you working on currently?

LordKat, is fun to see this games again, but I should ask something to you. I like your videos, but I think that if this games are to play Until We Win, I think you have to play it straight, until the end, record everything, and than edit it to show us (deaths and victories).

The problem is that I always keep the feeling that you are playing in an emulator, and is using savestates. So your videos are more like a walktrough. If this is the intention, no problem, but I thought the idea was to show us someone beating the game straight, from the start.

I know that this would take a whole month (or more) for a single game, but so your videos would be memorable, a legend in the internet (if that mean anything).

But, as I say, your videos are great, and your humor is good too. Please, don't think that I don't like videos, maybe I was tricked by the title (and headlines "no cheats, no savestates" of the series)

BTW: Seeing this videos made me think about the games.

Back in the days, the games were almost plataform games. This one has many bosses similar do Castelvania IV, for example.

Nowadays, the genre that dominates is FPS.

    What will be next?
  • anaeuphis
He openly admits that he is using an emulator. Problem is, unless you post videos unedited (and thus 80+ hours of material) there will always be some doubt that you "cheated"

But who really cares at the end of the day? Oh, you've beaten Mega Man 2 0.2 seconds faster then the previous guy, wow.
  • tastyfake
You're confused by the name? The show isn't called "Until I Win"... It's called Until WE Win. Why would he spend time going through all the levels and bosses if it was just "this is how good of a gamer i am, suck on this". Maybe you should just search youtube for speedruns if that's what you want.

I think it's a good idea, a visual and enjoyable walkthrough to get people to try beating the game themselves.

Quintet's games were always, for lack of a better word, epic!

This game, regardless of its age, still has its challenges and unique qualities. That's why I loved it when it came out, and why I still love it now.

Ah, nothing like Sim City mixed with ass kicking and natural disasters!

Keep that retro game train rollin!

I actually beat more than just one boss by just hitting the magic-button until the boss was dead...or with minimum health. Therefore, I wasn't able to beat even the second boss in Death Heim...

I really like your show. :cheer:

This is one of my oldest favourites!
It may have been difficult when i was a kid, but i've played it so much that i know it inside and out - enough to know the footage you were showing was not Professional Mode, as it doesn't have the Sim modes, and you were shown to be able to kill the minor enemies with only 1 hit.

But man, i loved this game so much - am i the only one who still gets choked up when i hear the New Music? But i hadn't realized that the scores in the ACT sequences affected the population max of the SIM sequences ... i'm definitely going to keep that in mind for the future ...
There's always a lot of empty space in places like the desert and Bloodpool where my people just would not develop into, even after House Level 3 and an Earthquake, because they were already maxed out for some reason. Even when i stretched out conquering the monsters' lairs as late as possible, they would stop, Maxed. Now i know why!

And who doesn't think the Filmore Act 1 music isn't some of the best goddamned video game music ever composed?

Illusion of Gaia is amazing, too. Too bad RPG-type games would kinda be out of the question for UWW. I even recorded an entire 6 hour VHS tape of me playing Illusion of Gaia - my second playthrough(rental) at the time, cutting out much of the action to keep the story and bosses.

Well, recently i just found it in a game shop and have no need for the tape anymore - except i think it also has a video of me fighting Thanatos and the Mana Dragon from Secret of Mana, and the end scene credits, etc.

I actually beat the Ice Dragon on my first go, but I was carrying the Star Dust spell. It should hit him far more often than anything else, just spam that till he croaks.
  • mirrorstorm
The video didn't seem to be on professionnal level, the enemies only takes 1 hit point from tou in the video. Did you pick another difficulty just to record footage ?

Anyway. It be nice if you tried to beat actraiser two, it's much more harder.

Yeah, I saw your video for Earthworm Jim, Lordkat, and I gotta ask: Just how many millions of dollars did you pay your fellow TGWTG reviewers to swing their T-shirts above their heads?

I'm guessing Quin-Tet (or however it's spelled) was back then what developer Atlus is now, and over-achieving underdog(which I consider a good thing).

Actraiser is a nice little game. Castlevania-style platforming and unique sim elements. And if you go by the orgiinal Japanese version, your swordguy is god, fighting satan at the end.

Overall, this game doesn't really get that hard till the crazy boss rush at the end. Actraiser 2 on the other hand... well, they removed the sim aspect and made the platforming so hard that I can't even beat the first level - and that comes from soemone who had no problem with the first game's platforming :s

Ah one of my favorites from the SNES era. But...this game isn't hard at all! I mean as soon as you have the shooting stars every boss in the game is your bitch.

The only hard part is the last level and boss rush.

Oh and I want to recommend a game: Super Putty for the SNES...a game that burns in my memory as a hard, noisey, boring, and bad game.

EDIT: Whoops I missed that part in the beginning about the Japanese verison.

I remember this game when I first got my SNES back in the early 90s... and man did this game spank me, thanks for the trip down memory lane
  • Leneth
I remember this game! And I did beat the Serpent without the Blade Beam - I either never found it or lost it along the way - and he wasn't kidding. That fight was just ugh. I'm kinda proud I did it, but I won't be doing it again. Ever.
