Hey LordKat, i have a quick question. What emulators do you use? I've tried a few without success. Thanks! :)

If you had to pick one Super Nintendo emulator, you'd go best with ZSNES.

you do good reviews. keep them coming.

good to see that jason is becoming more and more famous over time, I first saw him on Best of Blogs (megaman) but now that he's part of team TGWTG I expect more and more UWW on tgwtg, also his side series are also pretty good, I can't wait to see the collabs and cameos (he already made a video with some cameos). Good Luck on all your projects man! you have a colombian fan.

I really dislike the website address in this video because it can be very distracting at times. Otherwise it's a great little overview of the game. Good job!

A great play through to a classic, I especially liked the end result when you beat Dracula with only 1 point of health left, that was awesome.

I really didn't know there was a hard mode until you told me, go to know when I play this once again.

Okay, I can accept people calling Super Ghost N' Ghoul a hard game but Super Castlevania IV, extremely difficult? Crazy Bosses!?

You have lost all credibility I had for you and the same goes for anyone who truly believes that this game is hard, even after you finish the game and get the game slightly harder. It's not hard, oh sure its a incredible game but the controls and responses are nearly perfect, the ability to slightly change your direction while jumping and attacking in the air makes falling to your death nearly impossible and swinging around is not really hard.

You don't need to be a video game expert to know that this game is easy. This isn't Castlevania I & III and I couldn't care less about the worshipers that would believe that anything you say is right and cannot be contradicted.

Who said it was hard? No one. Many times in the review he mentions that things are difficult but not too hard and at the end he even said it wasn't the hardest game! So back off!

Anyways I am glad the game was so easy for you...maybe you should do some reviews

well thanks for your opinion on how hard you think the game is

seriously people stop acting like your opinion is the right and true opinion, a game has as many different levels of difficulty as there are people on this earth.
• TheAngryMovieDork.com
Your opening is cool! However the classic horror tone doesn't fit in with the rest of the video, good review though, I wouldn't say it's an underrated game, but defiantly one that I don't see get enough recognition, wait that's underrated, isn't it? :s Oh well, atleast I feel better with this and AVGN's review. :cheer:
Keep up the good work LordKat!

..and thus we learn a valuable lesson: Do not make date references in your content, as you are at the mercy of your publisher in terms of publishing dates.

Another great UnWeWi. Thank you for suffering through it so I don't have to.

The only consistent Castlevania team has been the Aria of Sorrow team who started on the last GBA game, helped out on Lament of Innocence, but also have made every single Castlevania for DS. Otherwise the team is constantly shuffling persons.

Hm... maybe next time you show how to play a game like Castlevania, present to the viewer secret rooms and hidden objects instead of the obvious things tha you reveal "Jump fast to the left side" (yes, everybody who died there once will see that).
I am not the biggest fan of this series, but I am sure you can improve it
• the12ofSpades
Personaly, I consider this to be the easiest castlevania game in the series. The only realy hard parts are death and dracula (and the gold bat thing was a pain). But the platforming (other than the spike ring of death) wasn't as difficult as in say Bloodlines. Still and amazing game though!

Another front-page mention! I hope they pick you up officially, if they haven't already. Awesome stuff, as usual.
• Paper_Banjokami  - Did you not know...
The whip can be used as a shield for projectiles. If you hold the attack button and up on the d-pad, Simon will hold the whip up in place and it'll stop projectiles from hitting you head on. I'm quite sure it works with Dracula's fireballs, but I don't know if it works with all the projectiles.

You didn't seem to know that, because you didn't mention it or use it in the footage. I guess since you didn't use FAQ you never found that out. But how would you know about the restock area right before Dracula?
• Shadowgam3  - Darcula X that game was harder..
avatar
Super Castlevaina ain't nothing compared too Darcula X for the Super Nintendo.. Now that game iz Hard as Balls.. How abt playing Metal Gear.. Since you mentioned Konami.. Now there another game that hard too play..
• J4ck  - Nice

To people saying its a matter of opinion if a game is hard or not , not its not a matter of opinion. Its how hard they programmed/made the game vs how good you are at games in general. The game is the same difficulty for everyone playing exept for the skills of the person playing.Dont confuse it with different skills levels of different people. I have to say that having beaten every single CV game to date (even unofficial games) , Super CV IV is definitely one , if not the easiest one.

Now if you want a harsh game riddled with instant deaths everywhere ,worst appearing/disappearing small blocks jumps than in some Mega Man games, a weird jump glitch and (some) painfull bosses , try Bucky O'hare for NES. There is infinite continues and even when you're game over you start off at the screen you just died wich some ppl might say makes the game easy because no matter how much you die you can keep going and beat it but believe me it doesnt help THAT much, you'll die and die and die and then when you'll be dead , guess what you'll die again!!

I agree but dont forget the DKC series! Amazing games. In fact the SNES had tons of amazing games. So much that it would be too hard to make a definitive list in order...

Man, do I love this game. Easily my favorite Castlevania game. Fun to play and an awesome soundtrack. And this whip is one of the coolest special effects in the entire series. I believe that the series would be even more awesome today if they'd stick to SC4's new controls. I seriously miss that swinging action. Why didn't they use that for other games? Lament of Innocence had something like that, but it was just some kind of extra air-jump. Strange how a SNES-game can have more realistic swinging action than a PS2 one...

It might not be the hardest game (the first couple stages are actually easy), but there are some hard areas later in the game. And don't forget that some of the later bosses are significantly harder than most of the others.

Anyway, I recently played it again - thanks to your review. But I chose the Japanese version for the sheer fun of it. So, here are my additions:

- There's no acid in the Japanese cave stage. The only level were such crap drops down on you is the dungeon stage, and here we have blood in the Japanese and slime/acid in the American version

- Medusa is extremely easy if you just crouch for the whole battle. That way she can't petrify you, and you have an easier time killing the snakes on the ground. She might hit you with hurled snakes, but they don't deal that much damage, so you can savely ignore them. If you have a boomerang, you can cut through her like a hot knife through butter

- Frankenstein's monster is even easier (MUCH easier than you want us to believe): Just hit the potions before they hit the ground. I basically just stood right in front of him, and all he could do was throw his useless potions while I whipped him to death :D

Speaking of destroyable projectiles: The axes thrown by the knights are among them. So if you're carefully, they aren't much of a threat.

By the way people, the first 4 Castlevanias are available on the Wii Virtual Console, (with others on Xbox Live Arcade & Playstation Network and many more on the way) if you own the system and want to play these games... BUY THEM! This is really simple, if a game maker doesn't make money on a game because everyone is downloading ROMs illegally... no more of those games will be made. Stop stealing, you're killing the industry and putting people out of work!
• TrippyZero
I was going to buy this game on the virtual console, I'm glad I saw this, now I know how to do all the bosses!
• Ozymandias
I gotta side with the people saying it's not THAT hard. Most of the video clips showed you playing very poorly, taking hits you could've easily avoided and not using any pattern recognition. Also a noticeable lack of projectile blocking by holding the attack button and flailing the whip around with the D-pad.
• Codiak723
I'm a Castlevania fanatic. I've played every game that wasn't a handheld with the exceptions of Bloodlines and Rondo of Blood, because I never owned a Genesis and I refuse to play that abomination that Nintendo released as Dracula X.

Of the ones I've played, there have been only 3 I've never beaten:

Curse of Darkness because I got bored with it,
Castlevania 64 because it was that frustrating,
and Super Castlevania IV, out of sheer difficulty.

I labored on I - III until I finally beat them, but I couldn't even get to Dracula no matter how hard I tried on IV. Between all the chasms and the Goddamned Bats and medusa heads, I burned through the continues. ESPECIALLY on Zaphbat's stage. I don't think I ever got to Slogra.

If it is so easy, make a video and play all the the way though it to the end, no save states, no cheats, and post it. Hell I just played it again myself after watching this, It is by no means extremely hard, but it does have it's moments controller chewing frustration.
