The hit detection for me in this game was always a little better on the actual Master System than it was when I tried using an emulator. I think you covered this game as good as anyone could. I think it is a good example of a game that is just challenging enough without wanting to pull your hair out.
That is, once you find the way around that spike filled swimming section.

11.07.2009 - 00:24 | Mr.StillmanI didn't like the heavy metal music in this one. It's like watching a little girl having a tea party in the eye of a mosh pit. The game is just too cartoony for there to have metal playing in the background.

11.07.2009 - 01:04 | OgawaBurukkuHaving music play while you talk was kind of annoying. I would much rather I hear your voice and no music when the camera is on you, and when it's on the game I'd rather have in-game music and effects instead of heavy metal (not that I don't love me some heavy metal, wooo... it just didn't go with the video at all).
Not your best video, but I'm still looking forward to your next post.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World seems to be one of those games that looks like it'd be a breeze to go through, only to have it turn out to be as hard as all bloody hell. The gameplay seems awfully loose (as LordKat said, you "skid to a stop), and if you run through a stage you'll get hit by some bullcrap enemy like a lightning bolt. And those PSR boss fights? Holy shitballs, what a terrible idea! I think I'll stick to Super Mario Bros. 3, thanks.
Great video, LordKat. You are the man! Yor is not the man; you are!

I had a Nes when i was young and didnt have to many games for it but one of the few i played alot but never managed to be was one called Radd Gravity, i could be wrong about the second D in rad. This games difficulty jumped all over the place. A few of the stages were simple as they can be but then you get to a planet where the gravity is shifting. I can't say it was a great game but it kept me entertained and frustrated most of my child hood. This game probably isn't nearly as hard as most of the games your reviewed it does have its quirks.

If you truly take any challenge beat Bubble Bobble.

11.07.2009 - 02:15 | Sailor_SegaLet me explain the ? Boxes. in every level if you don't get the previous item that item moves to the net ? box. This means if you don't get a bracelet in the 1st ? box it will move into the 2nd ? box so you need to punch the ? boxes containing ghosts if you think you can run away from the ghost in time. The order of ? boxes is usually Bracelet, Ghost, 1-up.
The telepathy ball is annoying as it allows the enemies to change their mind. If I remember correctly with the telepathy ball you can read the enemies mind and the enemy can read your mind. I have never had the enemies do anything different from their pattern but I have never beaten the game.
The slide move is intentional, it was in the instruction booklet.

11.07.2009 - 02:27 | 9_6Ohh alex kidd.
I played the one for the sega genesis and this game is a freaking ASSHOLE! It's not the same game you played but man, I'm pretty convinced it's just as hard as what you chewed through.
You got nerves of steel.
Now do Truxton/Tatsujin for the genesis if you want a game that's fun but likes to kick you in the balls while you're on the ground. That game, along with ALEX FUCKING KIDD pretty much scarred me as a kid.
Oh or try Mystic Defender for a game that seems *somewhat* easy at first but then you come to a stage that'll keep you dying and dying and dying.
What else do we have... ohh, Ghouls n Ghosts! No wait you did one of those already. But the genesis one is way cooler actually, I can understand if you never ever want to touch one of those again though.
Oh god and then there also is Gynoug/Wings of Wor. That one is brutal. Just brutal. But I'd love to see you chewing your way through it.
Anyway keep it up, you rock!

11.07.2009 - 03:01 | lordphynixThe one you're referring to 9_6 may be Alex Kidd in High-Tech World, which was a pain to play and beat, ultimately though it was worth it.
Lord Kat I know the difficulty you had with this game. When I was a youngin the Sega Master System was my first ever console and Alex Kidd was my second game bought for the system. Beating it was a challenge and a relief.
The entire series is worth playing except I think Alex Kidd and the Lost Stars really leaves something to be desired as a game.

11.07.2009 - 03:05 | NonesuchI'd like to see you beat Life Force... That game is balls hard without the Konami Code. Even with it, it's still bitchin' hard. Especially the end shoot run to get out before the place explodes. Dear god did I ever die an F-load in it.
Or maybe you could try Subterrania. I never have actually beaten that game. >.< Another hard ass game. The water level can suck my nutz.

All of LordKat's videos are awesome. The metal music playing over a death montage was only in his early videos, this was one of them. Keep it up, your really good and update constantly. TGWTG would be foolish to not make you a main feature.

Great job on these videos! It's very enjoyable to see a show that's so informative about obscure and difficult games while keeping it entertaining. As for the suggestion part, I think you should try a game called Werewolf: The Last Warrior.
Basically, Werewolf is a Ninja Gaiden clone that does everything possible to piss you off and make you give up, like items that make you lose power (picture the poison mushroom in the Japanese SMB2), horrible "flipped" controls and a jungle level that makes the platforming of Ninja Gaiden 1 with the eagles look easy. Admittedly, the Japanese version, Warwolf, is much easier, but we want to see you try your hand at crazy hard stuff!

11.07.2009 - 07:10 | LokiholicI am somehow not surprised. Even my junior high school kids here in Japan settle everything with a game of Janken. Sometimes we play games as an entire class versus the teacher. It gets chaotic at times.
Did you know Alex Kidd was the offical mascot of Sega before Sonic the Hedgehog.
Great video. Good music selections too.
