The best part about this whole thing is the fact that Benzaie was giving us a preview of the script last night in a livestream chat... whispering it to us. Sure, he was just trying to keep from waking people up, but it brought a WHOLE NEW LEVEL of creepy/hilarious to the ordeal.

Just look at The Tale of Genji--it's not always straightforward about it, but in TToG male aggression is hooked into romantic love pretty strongly. In Japanese culture pity and vulnerability have long been associated with love, so rape itself can take on an air of romance since the audience pities the victim. I wrote a paper about this aspect of TToG a while ago, I wish I had it around so I could show my sources on this.

Remember, in America, graphic violence is ok, but sex is not. Yes, you could kill prostitutes in GTA: San Andreas, but add a "hot coffee" mod and, "oh no! Poorly done sex scene. Won't somebody think of the children!"

This is more than that. Killing people is fun and sexy. We all like badasses who kill things, who hasn't fantasized about being Tony Montana, mowing down an army?

But rape is one of those acts of evil that takes you from the cool, badass, sexy kind of evil, to the repugnant. It's not cool, and it's fucking terrifying that they made a game that realistically allows you to repeatedly rape a family, take the virginity of underage girls, and force them to get abortions until your in game death.

Rape is a horrible act that can take the person close to a decade to recover from. But last thing I heard, unless you are in fact Jesus, you can't recover from being dead.

Rape is worse than murder. You can't recover from being dead, but you don't suffer from being dead either, and most people never recover from being raped either.

With co-op I'm sure it could at least get a 9 on the jizz-o-meter.

I have to get my academic glasses out here, I'm actually reading a book about the history of sexual assault crime in the UK, USA and Australia, from the 1800s to the present (its called Rape: Sex, Violence, History by Joanna Bourke), and its a universal idea. In the 19th century doctors asserted that it was difficult or even impossible for women to be raped, our bodies would not allow it. According to those doctors, it would take two or even three men to force a woman to have sex. Others believed working class women could never be raped, because life for them was so rough they like it that way, others believed women of colour were naturally promiscuous and unable to be raped, disabled women sadly also were denied justice on the basis that they couldn't say no. It was only during the seventies and eighties that a husband could be charged for the rape of his wife, and even in the seventies during the second wave of feminism anti-feminists and rape apologists would say that feminists really wanted to be raped so that they could justify their activism, so they "got what they deserved." And there are still people today who think that sex is naturally violent and women are naturally turned on by rape, unconsciously if she denies that. If you wore a short skirt, you could be accused of actually trying to get assaulted.

Whew! Sorry for the history lecture. What I'm getting at though is that its not an exclusively Japanese thought, and hentai doesn't really reflect Japan's thoughts on sexuality as a whole. Actually, thats another thing, at least this game its really not real, but its banned, but here actual porn depicting actual people being brutalized and raped is perfectly legal. I'm told that Japan has really strict laws about live action porn which would explain why hentai is so crazy, but stories about porn actresses getting really abused are common here, but its the game that has no real actors in it that gets banned.

Apparently the game hasn't been banned. It was supposed to be for japanese release only. Apparently Amazon carried it in their marketplace for british users but quickly removed it when they figured out what the game was about. The english dialogue is actually part of a series of patches made by fans to make the game playable for english speaking players. The company Illusion has repeatedly announced that none of its titles would released outside japan, but that hasn't stopped people from translating them and removing censorship from the games.

I don't know about the American version, but in the Japanese version clothing can be removed, and I believe the penis is visible, but censored. I cannot back up that last part however.

I think the worst part about this game is that there never seemed to be a decent translation. It's hard to appreciate just how big an asshole the main character is when you can't stop laughing.

There is no american version. Benzaie simply made the penis invisible as allowed by the options of the game, much like the backgrounds can be made invisible, so can the penis.

The clothes can also be removed, although not in every scene.

Also apparently Benzaie is using an uncensor patch, because the original shows no pubic hair. :whistle:
