"You're bleeding to death, you need to go to the hospital."
"No, don't take me to the hospital."
"Ok." (!)
What in fuck, and she wants her baby now, after she tried to kill herself? This is the stupidest, most unrealistic game I've ever seen. Any sane person would call the cops and an ambulence. Appearntly Heavy Rain takes place in analternate dimension, were every one has mental problems.
I'll give you five stars for suffering this long.

03.21.2010 - 22:42 | poisontongueAll right, I was trying to wait so patiently for the next dose of the daily life of the world's best parenting, dancing babies, and spasmodic detectives.
Heavy Rain: Experience the thrill of babysitting! Marvel in awe as you feed your child moldy pizza... be amazed as you change diapers with your friends!
-
These Let's Plays are hilarious. You make fun of Heavy Rain really well.
And no, the spasms aren't losing their funniness. I cracked up every time :D

Great episode as always
And as a fan of the game (I'm not anticouma I swear) I thought this was one of the WEIRDEST scenes.
I gotta agree DeathsHead. Not only is it totally unrealistic (you can take your time, she'll never bleed to death even if you wait 2 hours standing in front of the door...don't people bleed out) and hard to understand (hospital? no...that would be stupid) but taking care of the baby is tedious and i was thinking during the whole scene...
"Wow...I could go watch paint dry. Now that would be fun!"
Sigh...scenes like that one are just pointless...Sometimes I question David Cage's sanity

Mr. comuna is the type of insane fanboy that makes others loath to atmit they like game X. Why do you think I always preface the fact I like Halo? Becasue if I didn't say explicidly that it's not my favorite game (or indeed, even my favorite FPS) I'd get cast in with those babbling, immature A'holes.
It's ashame that Fandoms are often times colored by those who would claim their software is perfect, since most games fall in the good-average catagory with most "Excelent" titles being those good games that grabbed a particular gamer.
Heavy Rain looks interesting, but the execution leaves something to be desired. Like this scene, just some meaningless filler that doesn't make any sense. I know it's supposed to get better later, but three hours in? That's really pushing it.
-
03.22.2010 - 01:17 | edczxcvbnmAnother awesome video. I can't wait for more and the game does pick up with some stuff that isn't super boring pretty soon.

Yeah for sure. The entire reason I even LIKE Heavy Rain is because it isn't gameplay or action driven more than it is story driven. I play Halo 3 and MW2 a lot as well so for me Heavy Rain is that good "Alright, let's take it down a notch and have a 12 hour story" kind of alternative.
But it does have plenty of faults. The twitches, the QTE based gameplay, the filler missions (trust me there are MUCH MUCH MORE) outweighing the action moments, the horrible accented voice acting, the pacing, the fact that choices don't REALLY matter unless it's extreme (death of a character extreme), and much much more. But I take all that into account and still enjoy what I got.
The main (there are a few but) problem with the game IS the pacing. The first 5-6 hours are really really slow and full of useless moments. It's only towards the third act do things pick up and by then it goes by so quickly that it feels like you are on a rollercoaster that takes its sweet time going up than coming down and ending really fast.
But I'm glad Ben does these Rifftrax-esque Let's Plays because not only are they hilarious like he usually always is but also because it actually HELPS Heavy Rain. Honestly how many people would give Heavy Rain a second thought before this video? Not only that but he's pointing out all the negatives instead of positives and it almost works like a "Alright I know what sucks now I can take that into account if I ever play it."
Sorry to rant but Lord knows as soon as anticouma comes in the s**t's gonna hit the fan on here.
-
I think that if you can't find fault with a game, you're doing it wrong. I even came up with a list of my favorite 10 games, and why I love them. Then I made a list of everything wrong/that pisses me off about them. Even my favorite FPS RtCW has nurmerous AI problems, some truly horrendiously hard moments, and scripting problems that can render the game unplayable.
No game is perfect, nor should any game be considered as such. Though I'm certain somebody will venomously disagree with me. Oh well, thank you for trying to bring some reson into this cold, unresonable world.

03.22.2010 - 03:59 | UK_DudeWow, this game looks terrible. I have nothing more I can say about it. It just looks awful. Everything I've seen so far has been utterly pointless - playing with your kid in the garden, having a shower in the morning, running around a shopping centre shouting "Jason!" over and over again. And now we have a baby changing scenario. Why would anyone pay money for this?
On the plus side, Benzaie makes it funny. I loved the baby dancing, that gave me a laugh out loud moment. :)
-
Though the baby did tug the heart strings. I actually care about this infant: I can't give a flying fuck about what happened to those two generic, personality devoid boys.
-
03.22.2010 - 07:40 | dennett316
That was a really weird, really unrealistic scene. Absolutely NO-ONE in their right mind would simply leave the house after finding a suicidal woman, never mind leaving the baby there as well.
And the scene is clearly padding, all you had to get was the mobile phone and perhaps a bit of exposition from suicidey the wonder mother. All that faffing around would bore me to tears.
I don't remember Fahrenheit being so obviously padded, and while many of the scenes in that game were massively outlandish - such as having sex with a woman while you're technically dead, and she knows it!! - THIS scene really makes far less sense just from a human perspective.
Great video again Ben, even funnier than the last few.
-
03.22.2010 - 07:56 | HappyPants90I love Let's plays! Thanks Benzai!

03.22.2010 - 08:20 | JimmydelaKopin
Again, too much memory devoted to QTEs that could have been cutscenes or--better yet--voiceover expositions that moved the plot along:
"I got a dead cellphone from a suicidal mother. I hope she can keep her mind on her baby long enough to keep sharp objects off her wrists. I'll see what clues this phone holds..." all done as he's driving to the next important plot point for his subplot.
There's a reason crime dramas use voiceover expositions--and it's not merely to given them that Spillane feel.
Sheesh...horrible, horrible videogame. Glaciers move faster than this game! :pinch:

Yeah but then if I was a character in this game I'd want to kill myself too.
Seriously, if it wasn't for Benzaie's commentary I wouldn't be able to stand watching this boring game.

Even though the video is funny, I feel I should mention this:
I loved this game. The reason this scene is in the game is because it allows you to connect with the character. After this scene I went out of my way to make sure he would be safe, and no harm would come to him. Though the scene actually does have a purpose, which won't be revealed until much later on in the game.
Regardless, great game. You guys are doing yourselves a disservice by not playing it.

If you had played the game then you would know why he wouldn't call the cops.

That scene was plausible. You understand why the characters act the way they act once you see the story unfolding and what each of them wants.
Let's just say that he doesn't have anybody's good in his interest.

Heavy Rain is the best thing that ever happened to videogames in the last 5 years.
Not playing with some stupid super-hero who uses his underwear incorrectly or some marine on steroids is half of the fun.
Want to know what "videogames" are about? Check God of War III. You could easily replace Kratos with Wolverine and the Gods with mutants. It is all cartoonish and dumb. It just too dumb.

Dead Rising includes Sandbox gameplay, multiple endings, characters you care about, a social critiscism, is critical about the US policy and governement, you first play as a fragile reporter, you have to make tough decisions that can result in the death of other characters
+ it's FUN TO PLAY and has a lot of REPLAYABILITY...
that's why I think you're exagerating when saying
"" Heavy Rain is the best thing that ever happened to videogames in the last 5 years. ""
-
You do know that there are more games out there than God of War right? Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, fuck it- Star Wars KOTOR: all examples of well-written, well executed plot-lead games. The plot of Heavy Rain is mediocre and cliched, the voice acting is actually pretty bad by modern gaming standards, and it moves pretty badly. I played about an hour into that game and then I quit out of boredom. I'm not going to let the game dick me around for 3 fucking hours before it actually decides to pick up the pace. 3 hours in? I could watch Stanley Kuberick's A Clockwork Orange and I'd still have an hour left before this game got interesting! I'm not a fanboy- the game just sucks!

Best thing in 5 years? Assassins Creed pioneered the physics engine and introduced parkour in gaming,
Mass Effect pioneered how your choices affect how your party members think about you, to the point where they can be killed if you do a dumb mistake.
Heavy Rain introduced how to jiggle a joystick to cross your arms...right...
The PS3 has FANTASTIC games but Heavy Rain...not so much.

somehow I'm not buying that you've transcended the want of anything more than storyline and realism in video games. you sound like an asshole who's just trying to sound smart on the internet to me and nineteen other people at this point.
[edit] okay, i take back the asshole part, because now i know that you're a troll.

Helping by trolling? The so called "negatives" aren't even real. The ones cited by you were already talked about in other videos.
The pacing is fine, the story is well made enough to make you interested in what happens next. That's why the majority of the people I know couldn't stop playing it and finished it in one sitting.
I already explained how the gameplay is good in other videos ad nauseam. You can check there how I destroyed your arguments.
But if you are going to criticize something then you must take it in its own terms and the goals of the creators. Criticing a hack'n slash game like God of War for not having realistic physics is retarted. Just like complaining that Gran Turismo is unoriginal, because all you do is to drive cars since the first one.
Heavy Rain was made with a purpose, and it succeeded at it.

The "playing with kids part" is the prologue and tutorial. There you will learn the commands. That's all there's to it. You learn about one character and his reasons, and also learn how to play the game.
Such little things and details help you to immerse yourself in the situations depicted.

Wait so is this all there is to the gameplay?
I admit I don't know anything about this game besides this lets play. So far I thought this was all for getting the game set up so I decided to see if the plot and gameplay picks up.
Is this realy all there is to it? a point and click game with a few rythmic elements?
Does the plot pick up? does the game start to actually get better? A game is supposed to show off the gameplay within the first hour or so, is this all there is too it? Twist this and touch that?
Its a glorified point and click.
Little things are good, but not if they distract from the game.
What if GTA you had to stop for gas every 10 minnutes of gameplay, or if in Assassins Creed you had to sit, eat, and rest for thirty seconds or you would collapse.
The little things can be good but if it takes up so much of gameplay that it stops you from enjoying the plot of the game its just a nuisance.

You are one of the few voices of reason in these comments.
Yes, unlike other Quantic Dream games where some scenes are kind of pointless, Heavy Rain does it right.
Later everything makes sense.
