I don't think I'll be playing Napoleon right off the bat. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I'll be waiting for what my friends say, as their game tastes are similar to mine, and what reviewers say as well. I'd like to give this company another chance, but having it seemingly rushed like its predecessor worries me.
I did like the Bill and Ted reference. :)

Another good analysis, Joe. Plus I loved the use of Bill & Ted clips. But you missed the opportunity for an "I was frozen today!" sound clip during the Russian assault.
Say, what are your thoughts on "Heavy Rain"?

So wait... That movie napoleon was supposed to speak french, right? Because I am, and I have no idea of what half he said was... Except the Merde part.
Anyway, I'm not an RTS fan, but this look promising, I might try it sometime, even if I will probably suck majors balls... :( And they seriously needed that much patching for Empire Total War? @_@ HOLY SHIT! That's major unreasonable, like you said, that's not a beta, it's the real deal, don't make people pay full price for a beta @_@ And it's STILL not fixed?!? The hell??? Anyway, I hope for this company sake they will not screw this one up.

This is by far the best video you've done in my opinion.Lets hp[e they won't fuck up again, cause I also love Creative Assembly and the Total War games.

Just hope they did more than make this game with second stringers responding to the paying in full beta testers responses.

This game does look awesome and I have been looking for something new to play. I love this series, by the way. It really got my hyped for AvP.
Did they say what Generals were playable? Are they all French or do they kinda branch into British/American/German/ Spanish? Are they all from that time period? I'd love to have Roland or Thomas-Alexandre Dumas.

Did you ever play at Funny Papers in the Doby Mall? I remember they used to have table top games. Back when it was downstairs, I don't know if they moved the games when they moved to the 2nd floor. Too bad it's closed in any case...I have fond memories of it. I got my first manga there...Ranma 1/2.

Joe instead of waiting for possibly good game just check out this one:

It came 2004-2005 and has knights (several different classes with different skills) and the main goal is....yes complete domination of Europe.
It's not a new game, but even after all this years its still stonking good.
I don't say buy it, but atleast check it out. (Only to clarify the reason why you haven't heard of the game is because its made in Bulgaria(Eastern Europe) and those guys don't have shit load money on advertisement and hype machines. If they want to sell games they need to make them really good and this one is )

I kinda like Empire, probaly because I din't play it very much when it came out bacause of glicthes and I wanted to finsih some campaigns in Medieval 2. So I played it when several problems where fixed. But it is still a bit disapointing, You have the rigth will be angry. I really do hope that it will be as CA have said, that features from Napoleon will be incorporated in Empire, especially improvement in the AI.

and yeah, etw messed up badly and its rather strange to have most your battles fought ranged. on the plus side, i found the enlightenment period always to be one of the most interesting times in european history, we shall see.
btw, are there any mods that make up for the publishers failure to comply?

Weren't CA observing what happened to Valve? Why did they do almost the exact same thing with their franchise?
I hope this is not a lasting trend for game developers.

02.22.2010 - 08:36 | cteshwayoI'm a long-time Total War fan, and I was pumped when I first heard about Empire, because I love Age of Musket warfare. And like most, I was very disappointed by the actual product (although the gameplay has been improved by mods).
I am with the people who want Napoleon to be good, but again, I'm not going to shell out $40 until I know whether or not the game lives up to the pedigree of the older Total War games. Here's hoping Creative Assembly pulls through for us!

I don't feel quite so bad because I picked up Empire half off on a steam sale. That was well worth it IMO. The game itself wasn't that bad. I never had any major issues with it, but I suppose at that time it was already in its final, fully patched form.
Thanks for the review, Joe, but i'm probably going to skip this one. I love RTS, but there's just so many game choices out there and who has the time for them all? I still havn't played through all of Empire. I HATE when they make new games so close to each other!! Perhaps i'll grab it if it ends up in another steam sale at Christmas time.
I'll be looking forward to your final review of it when it comes out.

AngryJoe, I have to say, I am impressed. When your stuff first arrived on this site, I wasn't a fan. I felt like it was too over-the-top and in your face. Some of the lines you delivered and jokes you did made me cringe as well.
That's no longer the case, however. I've started watching your videos again recently, initially out of boredom, but now I've come to anticipate your reviews. Your style has greatly improved over time, and I feel like you give very comprehensive reviews of these video games, and a lot of your routines are actually quite funny. You also seem to put more effort into special effects than nearly anyone else on the website, and the effects look good. I think the turning point, at least for my opinion on you, was the ODST review. That was a very good review, and the part where you came out and gave your honest opinion on the game made me reconsider what I thought of you as a reviewer.
I'm greatly looking forward to your review of Aliens vs Predator, as I am on the fence on that game. I'm anxious to hear what you think of it, it might even be the deciding factor for me on if I get it or not.

If they did in fact fix all the issues eventually, then that counts for [i]something[/i], but that puts a lot of strain on a fan's patience. Even MMO games should strive to have at least the basic package good to go on the release date, let alone what should be a finished product.
The release date concerns me. With just under a year to create the game, I foresee Napoleon being either another half-assed release (Bad Future) or the fully-patched Empire game revised to focus on Napoleon (Good Future?). Time will tell, I guess. Keep your fingers crossed, and...
